Unofficial Hymn of the Czech Republic

In 1874, Czech composer Bedrich Smetana has written one of the most gorgeous pieces of the XIX century, called “Vltava”. Thereby, he describes one of the biggest Czech rivers. Flute tunes at the beginning of the poem reflect the calm flow of Vltava, sounds of trumpets and French horns — hunting in the forest on its shores, quiet melody of violins on the background of the wooden horns — nocturnal roundelays of mermaids.
