• Announcing that Rtns. Detlev and Lusi had raised IDR 1 million for the Smile Foundation last Sunday at their Sunday Brunch. • Requesting 2nd VP. Florian to report upon the recent field trip to the Nawa Kerti Village Global Grant Water Project, as Rtn. Jeni was not present to do so. 2nd VP. Florian said that Rtns. Jeni, Tineke, Erika and he had first visited the rice straw bale house built with DDF help from the RC of Tarpon Springs and the RC of Taman and Rtn. Jeni, which he found was incredibly cool inside. They then visited the school and the location where the water tank would be installed. Then they went to the water source and learnt from the expert how the pumps would pump water up to the tank without using electricity. They also saw the press used for making the rice straw bale house and the coconut oil manufacturing area.
• Requesting PN. Alex to speak about the fundraising efforts being made by Samara (who spoke at our Club recently) for Darma, the paraplegic, who is in desperate need of a special motor bike so that he can take his 9-year old son Made to school.
![Page 4: Minutes!of!the!Lunch!Meeting! heldon8 !June2016 ... · Minutes!of!the!Lunch!Meeting! heldon8th!June2016!intheTransResort,!! at!12:00noon.! Darma was found on his bed on the floor of his smoky kitchen and was only able after treatment by Yayasan Puspadi Bali to sit in a wheel chair. His son had out of necessity given up his schooling to look after his father.
PN. Alex said that it was really a unique project, which had touched him so much that he had taken a personal interest in it and had made The Trans Resort available to Samara to hold her Fairy House fundraising classes.
However, despite the wide publicity for the classes, only 5 children attended, one of whom was Rtn. Joerg’s daughter. So far Samara has raised IDR3,800,000 of the money needed for a second hand motor bike and its special adaptation. PN. Alex also showed the letter that they would be framing from Samara to Darma that would be presented to Darma with the motorbike.

President Barbara then announced that PAG. Marilyn had most generously offered to match every IDR 1,000,000 donated by anyone in the meeting. This unbelievable offer was met with an immediate response from PP. Anita and Rtns. Joerg and Gerry, who each pledged IDR 1,000,000. So now Dharma will have his specially adapted motorbike and his son will be able to go to school thanks to the generosity of our Rotary Club’s members once again. • Reporting upon her attendance at the recent lunch meeting of the Rotary Club of Bali Nusa Dua when the guest speaker was Dr. Ashish Sabharwal of ‘The Smile Train’ –

He also told of how ‘The Smile Train’ provided sponsorship to Yayasam Senyum and to other Bali organisations at the rate of IDR.5.5M for every cleft palate operation performed. He made it clear that this donation arrangement was strictly limited to cleft palate operations and did not cover craniofacial abnormality operations. President Barbara added that Mary Northmore, the Founder of the Yayasan Senyum (The Smile Foundation in Bali), which is a totally separate organisation to ‘The Smile Train’, had confirmed that she was thrilled to have received Euros 80,000 from Rtn. • Introducing the Guest Speaker, Princess Jero Asri Kerthyasa (“Asry”).
Asry (the name means “perfect” in Balinese) was formerly known as Jane Gillespie and came from Australia. She met her Balinese Prince, Tjorkoda Raka Kerthyasa, of the Ubud Royal Family whilst on holiday in Bali in the late seventies. The couple were married and Jane became Princess Jero Asri Kerthyasa.
Now more than 30 years after her wedding to her Prince, the love story continues.
Asri is also the owner with her son of the very charming and popular restaurant called “BIKU” in Pettitinget.
![Page 7: Minutes!of!the!Lunch!Meeting! heldon8 !June2016 ... · Minutes!of!the!Lunch!Meeting! heldon8th!June2016!intheTransResort,!! at!12:00noon.! Asri then played a 30-minute video made by an Australian company for a TV documentary in Australia upon her 29-year old son, Prince Tjok Gus’s, wedding 5 years ago to the beautiful and adored Javanese TV star Happy Salma.
The wedding was a glittering Balinese royal event with more than 2500 people in attendance including high priests, diplomats and guests during which the couple went through two elaborate ceremonies lasting from dawn till dusk. The wedding set against the backdrop of Bali’s high society, was a heady mix of love and fairy tales across cultural divides.
President Barbara thanked Asri for the fascinating video, which everyone enjoyed immensely, and said it was really a true fairy tale of Mother and son. She then presented Asri with a Club mug as a token of our appreciation for her coming to speak at our club. • The Raffle prize was won by Rtn. David. • Raffle/Happy and Sad Stories and Fines raised IDR 770,000. • President Barbara closed the meeting at 2pm by thanking Rtn. Tim for doing the Administration, Sec. John for preparing the Minutes and Rtn. Oliver for acting as SaA.
