    RECAP: The Rainiers scored 6 runs in the top of the 2nd inning and held a 7-2 lead, but allowed 6 unanswered runs as Tacoma fell to Las Vegas 7-8 on Saturday night. RF Patrick Kivlehan (3x5, R, 2B) led the team with 3 hits, while CF James Jones (2x3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB), 1B Jesus Montero (2x4, R, HR, 3 RBI, BB) and 2B Patrick Brady (2x4, R, RBI) each collected 2 of the Rainiers 13 hits. Starter Mike Montgomery (6.0,6,5,4,3,6,HR) allowed 5 runs (4 ER) on 6 hits over 6.0 innings, but did not factor into the decision. RH Sam Gaviglio (1.2,2,2,2,0,2) allowed 2 runs on 2 hits over 1.2 innings, while RH J.C. Ramirez (1.0,2,1,0,1,2) recorded the loss after allowing an unearned

    run in the bottom of the 9th inning.

    REHAB ASSIGNMENT: LH James Paxton began his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on Aug. 23. In 3 rehab starts with Tacoma he is 0-

    1 with an 8.10 ERA (6 ER, 6.2 IP). He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 29 with a strained tendon in the middle finger of his left hand after leaving the game in the 5th inning with discomfort in his left hand on May 28 vs. Cleveland. Paxton is 3-3 with a 3.70 ERA (24 ER, 58.1 IP) in 10 starts this season with Seattle.

    RAINIERS TEAM AWARDS: The Rainiers honred four players with yearly awards on Aug. 30. Forrest Snow (10-8, 4.11) was named Pitcher of the Year and also earned the teams Community Service award along with fellow pitcher Logan Bawcom. Jesus Montero (.346/130x376) was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year, and John Hicks (44.0% CS rate) was selected as Defensive Player of the Year.

    MONTERO NAMED TO THE ALL-PCL TEAM: Tacoma Rainiers infielder Jesus Montero has been selected to the 2015 All-Pacific Coast

    League Team, the league announced on Aug. 31. Montero, 25, played in 96 games with the Rainiers this season, batting .351 with 68 runs, 17 doubles, a career-high 6 triples, 17 home runs, and 82 RBI. His .351 batting average currently stands as the 2nd-best mark in the league. This marks the first time a Rainiers player was selected to the All-PCL team since catcher Rob Johnson earned the honors in 2008. Montero is the 15th player in franchise history to be named a post-season all-star. Montero earned two trips to Seattle during the season, a brief stint from July 9 19, and a second promotion on July 31. Montero earned his 6th career mid-season all-star selection when he was tabbed as the starting first baseman for the PCL in the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game. At the time of his selection he topped the league with 97 hits, and ranked in the top 5 in games played, at-bats, RBI, and total bases. On June 2 against New Orleans, Montero went 4-for-5 with a double, grand slam home run, and 6 RBI. The 6 runs he drove in against the Zephyrs matched a career high set in both 2011 and 2014. He also belted a walk-off 2-run home run on June 11 against Albuquerque in Tacomas 4-3 victory over the Isotopes. Montero opened the season with a nine-game hitting streak, and notched a base hit in 15 of his first 16 contests. While with Tacoma, he notched 41 multi-hit performances, and sent out multiple home runs in 2 games.

    This season the Rainiers have recorded 10 or more hits in 71 gamesthe Rainiers are batting .279 (1380x4938) with 734 runs scored, 245 doubles, 38 triples, 147 home runs, 676 RBI and 154 stolen bases in 142 games. o On the road the Rainiers are batting .286 (714x2496) with 372 runs scored, 139 doubles, 28 triples, 58 home runs, 337 RBI and 84

ROY HOWELL TAKES OVER AS MANAGER: The Seattle Mariners announced that hitting coach Roy Howell would assume managerial duties for the Jackson Generals for the remainder of the 2015 season beginning June 30. Jim Horner, who had managed Seattles Double-A affiliate since the beginning of last year, recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Washington State University. It marks the second-consecutive season that Howell has taken over as manager for a Seattle affiliate. Last March, he replaced Rich Donnelly as the manager at Triple-A Tacoma after Donnelly was named the Mariners third-base coach in Spring Training. He led the Rainiers to a 74-70 mark, and his 74 victories were tied for the 9th-most by a manager in his first full season. Howell, in his 4th season with the Mariners organization, spent 2012 and 2013 with the High Desert Mavericks in the California League. His managerial resume includes 3 seasons at short-season Eugene (2003-05), 3 seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and 1 season leading the field staff for the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged time in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as 3 seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02).

    Seattle Mariners minor league INF/OF Patrick Kivlehan (AAA Tacoma Rainiers) was named to the 2015 U.S. Pan American Mens Baseball Team roster, INF/OF Jordy Lara (AA Jackson Generals) was named to the 2015 Dominican Republic Pan Am roster and OF Tyler ONeill (A Bakersfield Blaze) was named to the 2015 Canada Pan AM Team roster. Canada won the gold medal in the Pan Am Games final on July 19 in Toronto, 7-6 in 10 innings over Team USA.
