1. (3X) Spade Terminal 2. Plug Shell 3. Connector On Rear Of Housing

The service replacement gauge supplied in this packagemay require the following modification:1. Remove the existing gauge denoting the wire location

and its function. One wire should be for power, one forground (optional) and one for sender.

2. Change all terminals on the wire harness to the 1/4" female spade terminals supplied in the pakage.

3. In the event a ground wire is not present it will be neces-sary to create one by using a minimum of 16-gauge wire.Find a suitable location for grounding to the vehicleschassis and fasten spade terminal into the supplied conn-ector housing in the (-) negative location marked on thegauge.

4. Fasten 12v power wire into connector housing in locationmarked (+) on gauge.

5. Fasten sender wire into connector housing in location marked (S) on gauge.

6. Plug connector and wires on to instrument.

(NOTE) It is extremely important that if a sender was supplied in this kit it must be installed or improper gaugereading will occur.

(Caution) The sender supplied is manufactured with tapered self-sealing threads. When installing sender donot use thread sealant or gauge reading will be inaccurate.

NEW BEETLE GAUGE POD Installation Instructions

Step 1. Remove center plenum cover. Push center cover forward andlift out from instrument panel. Remove the factory rubbergrommets and insert onto the VDO Gauge Pod for installation.

Step 2. Follow your gauge manufacturer’s instruction for wiring thegauges into your vehicle’s wiring harness.

Step 3. Insert the VDO Gauge Pod into the instrument panel and slide into place.

The gauge size of the Beetle Pod is 2-1/16" diameter

Siemens VDO

Installation of the VDO A-Pillar Mounting Pod is quickand easy if you follow these simple instructions.

1. Identify the desired location where you will mount the A-Pillar Mounting Pod.

2. Position the pod on the A-Pillar.

3. Mark this location on the A-Pillar, then remove the A-Pillar.

4. Create an opening in the A-Pillar for the gauge lines topass through.

5. Install the gauge(s) into the pod. No hardware is neededfor this installation.

6. Test fit the pod with the gauge(s) installed on the A-Pillar to insure sufficient clearance for the gauge lines andhousing.

7. Run the gauge wires through the opening you created inthe A-Pillar to the engine and connect the gauges assuggested by the manufacturer. Make sure no gauge linesare pinched in any way.

8. Identify the best location for double sided tape. Markthis location on the A-Pillar.

9. Use an alcohol pad to clean the surface of the A-Pillarwhere the double sided tape will be installed.

10. Use promoter on the A-Pillar where the surface hasbeen cleaned and the tape will be installed.

11. Install the double sided tape on the A-Pillar.

12. Mount the pod on the A-Pillar.

13. Press and hold the pod onto the A-Pillar for approxi-mately 30 seconds.

14. To secure the pod onto the A-Pillar permanently, youmay use screws.

This completes the installation of the VDO A-PillarMounting Pod.

� Your VDO wire harness will help makethe wiring portion of your VDOInstrument Kit installation easier,quicker and cleaner.

� Your VDO harness is prewired withconnectors for all five gauges in yourVDO Instrument Kit. The harnessalso is prewired with connectors forthe addition of a VDO Tachometer.

� Easy to read wire COLOR CODE andCONNECTOR ILLUSTRATIONCHARTS are provided. The chartsare complete with all of the wires inthe harness for your reference.

� But, you only need to connect ninewires to complete your installation(ten wires if you install a tachometer).

� Disconnect the ground (�) cable fromyour vehicle�s battery before making anyelectrical connections.

Recommended Installation:

Please read all of these instructionsand all of the instructions includedwith your VDO Instrument Kit beforebeginning the installation.

ILLUSTRATIONS to help identifywhich connector goes to which gauge.

� Plug the gauge harness connectors intothe gauges.

� Plug the large 8-position and 4-positionharness connectors into their matingvehicle harness connectors, if youhave not already done so.

� Using the COLOR CODE CHART asa guide, route the loose ends of thewires from the vehicle harness to theirconnection points (fuse panel, sensors,etc.).

� Dress and secure the harness with zipties (not included) or other means foran attractive installation that meetsyour liking.

� Before cutting any wires, double checkyour routing. Make sure the wiresroute to the correct connections andterminals.

� Cut wires to an appropriate length tomake the final connections. Use carenot to make the wires too short so thatthe connections are not strained.

� Make the final connections.Remember to follow the COLORCODE table on the opposite page, andthe CONNECTOR ILLUSTRATIONCHARTS on the inside pages.
