The StoryChapter 2
February 2, 2014The fi rst part of Genesis deals with primeval history: creation, fall, sin culminating in the fl ood. The second part brings us into history… ___________ history. And Abraham is the big story.Paul says this, 7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. Galatians 3:7-9 Abraham has a critical place in the unfolding plan of God. Early in the story we read, 12 The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:1-3
There are great lessons here.
First: ______ Will Do Great Things ______ times He says, “I will”.
Second: God Blesses So That We Can _______
Third: God Uses ____________ People to Do His Will
What Must We Learn?
First: We Must Learn To Have Faith In _________ _________.
5 He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”6 Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:5-6
3 What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Romans 4:3
18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. Romans 4:18-21 Without __________ it is impossible to please God.
Second: Having Faith Doesn’t Mean That We Don’t Have____________.
Third: Faith Takes____________.
