Annual Report 2020 4

Here I sit at my home desk writing a reflection on the year July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2020. In August 2019, Westminster United welcomed Cynthia O’Connell to the position of Youth and Family Minister. Cynthia is a student of theology from the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax. She is completing her two-year Supervised Ministry Education with us which means that in addition to her field work she is completing her required courses with the hope of being ordained in the Spring of 2021. Westminster enjoys the opportunity of reciprocal learning with the students that come to us. The National Church provides 15,000.00 per year towards the salary of the student. Cynthia comes to us with experience in preaching, youth work and administration. I have appreciated the ability to share ministry with her as I continue to heal from residual head injuries from the motor vehicle accident in 2018.The Fall saw us still purging from the lower level renovations and creating the office space and small meeting room on the second level of the 1959 addition. Linda Patterson decided to retire from the church office and we welcomed Carol Hulcoop to this part time position. Many thanks to Linda for her attention to detail with the power point presentations for Sunday morning worship and for her work with our data base, not to mention a myriad of other duties. The Board felt it was time to hire an accounting service to do our books. A sincere thank you to Susanne Boisvenue, Chuck Heron, Lee Ann Grimes and Tammy Glassford for their involvement in making the transition.Wendy Sheedy our Office Administrator, continued to be the “Face of Westminster” to anyone who entered our building. Her professional and sincere manner handling requests from contractors, renters, vulnerable persons and church members was wonderful. Wendy’s promotion of our renovated facilities brought many people into our building as well as revenue. As I write this message, I have learned that Wendy has decided to retire at the end of August 2020. Thank- you Wendy for your gifts of marketing, promotion and administration. You had a heart for the community. You will be missed! The new structure of our Board, adopted a year ago is going well. Thank you to Gary Vipond (past Chair), John Lemke (Chair), Pam Mauti (Chair-Elect), Brenda Scott (Secretary), Susanne Boisvenue/Chuck Heron Treasurers, and Wendy May (Western Ontario Waterways Regional representative). The Board meets with the chairs of committees quarterly. Thank you to all the volunteers spending your precious time and generating financial resources for our church. In response to the Covid-19 global pandemic, Westminster closed its building to do our part to prevent the spread of the virus. Staff worked from home, Sunday services moved to our You Tube Channel produced by Joshua Lonuzzo with cinematography by Gabriel Lonuzzo. Nancy Sicsic our music director with the Celebration Choir created an incredible number of recordings for our services. It has been a learning curve for everyone. I never realized to what extent we shared joys and burdens together in worship and coffee hour. Staying connected has been more of a challenge and I rejoice in the willingness of so many to reach out to others. Weddings and funerals have seen new protocols, baptisms have been on hold and we have learned much about what gives us meaning and how to live our faith simply and intentionally.Thank you for your love of our Creator and one another. God Bless!

Rev. Sandra McLauchlan-Abuja, B.A., B.Th., M.Div. Minister of Word, Sacrament and Pastoral Care

Annual Report 2020 5

Well, it has been quite a year!

First and foremost, I would like to thank all of those who have supported me in my first year as chair of our Board. It has been truly an extraordinary year and we have been successful through the efforts of so many. Special thanks to those who serve on our Executive Board: Rev. Sandra, Wendy May, Gary Vipond, Pam Mauti, Chuck Heron and Brenda Scott. I feel we have met many challenges together this past year. I am also grateful for the passion and energy of all the other Board members that help us make good things happen; Jeanette Main, Melissa Kovacs-Reid, Jim Richardson, Christy Doner, Nicky Hoogendorn-DeGroot and Sara Georgas.

2019 was an exceptional year that saw us complete the final parts of our renovation projects. We are grateful for the support of our congregation in completing our ambitious renovation, including a barrier free washroom in the sanctuary level, improved accessibility to our main office space and a renewed space for social activity on the lower level. Our church building is now ready for years to come and we should all be proud of what we have been able to accomplish!

Our new kitchen and auditorium space have provided us with the opportunity to begin new ventures into community outreach offering social times for young and old as well as a new potential for generating much needed income for our church.

We are so glad to have been fortunate enough to hire a student minister this past year. Through Cynthia, we have made strong progress in the area of Christian Education and now have a much-improved focus on this important part of our ministry. We look forward to continued growth in this area as we move forward into the coming years.

Although most of our church activity was brought to an abrupt halt in early March, we have managed to continue with virtual services – a special shout out to Josh and Gabriel Lonuzzo for their support in making these services a reality! As well, we have maintained our focus on building our community involvement. Soon, through grants provided by the United Church and the County of Dufferin we will be hiring a Programs Manager whose focus will be to develop and grow interest and enthusiasm in our building and the Christian Values that it represents. This will be accomplished by increasing the productive use of our new space, booking weddings, conferences and shows. This past year has not been an easy one and the coming year will offer additional challenges. We remain strong in our resolve to rejuvenate and grow our faith in our community. Together, we can offer strength and support to those in need.

I am glad to have served this past year as your Board Chair and look forward to 2020/21.

Sincerely,

John Lemke

“Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty heavens! ..Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!”

Psalm 150:1, 6

2019-2020 has been a year we will not soon forget at Westminster, and indeed in all aspects of our lives – however, worship at Westminster has remained an anchor in the storm. I am grateful again for the wonderful Worship and Sacrament Action Group members, who are: myself, Jeannette Main – chair; Steve Brown – secretary; Joyce Winegar, taxi, decorating, choir rep; Pat Vipond – ushering; Jane Lightle - lay reader scheduling; Pam Mauti – at large; Rev Sandra Abuja; and we have had the joy of welcoming Youth and Family Minister Cynthia O’Connell. This year began with the gradual return of Reverend Sandra into her role as Minister of Word and Sacrament, and hearing her regular preaching again. We are thankful to God for the healing she has experienced and pray for her continued healing and wellness. Beginning in September, we have heard Cynthia’s voice from the Pulpit once-monthly, which has enriched our worship experience greatly. Cynthia has also taken on the task of coordinating the Sunday School program, as well as initiating a small but thriving youth ministry, such that the W&S team has been able to relinquish the temporary dual role of covering for Christian Education. Now in its third year, our Messy Church program continued to grow and engage an intergenerational group of congregants and community members alike in evenings of learning, eating, and playing together. It was the intention of the committee to increase the number of Messy Church events this year, and three very successful events were held in October, December, and February; while three additional events for the spring and early summer had been planned, they were unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. Advent and Christmas were observed with the continued traditions of holding a “Come to the Stable” Nativity exhibition, alongside the Bethlehem Bazaar; thoughtful Advent services involving liturgy readers and candle-lighters representing our congregation’s many service groups; and joyful, well-attended Christmas Eve services. With Lent came a significant change in our world. The COVID-19 Pandemic resulted in the responsible and necessary decision to temporarily end in-person worship as of March 22, 2020. However, our ministerial team of Reverend Sandra, Cynthia O’Connell, and music director Nancy Sicsic immediately went to work to begin creating meaningful, encouraging and Spirit-filled recorded services that have been, as noted above, an anchor for so many of us in these difficult times. The Holy Week services, which came quickly after our transition to on-line worship, were excellent, from Palm Sunday through to Easter morning. The Celebration Choir quickly adapted to the “new normal” and learned to come together virtually to create music for on-line worship, and Nancy arranged for soloists and musicians to further enrich the worship of our community. Additionally, we have been astounded by the immense skill and faithful dedication that Josh and Gabe Lonuzzo have shown to church family in continuing to provide audio-visual services during the pandemic. of our building, community, and natural spaces to serve as fitting backdrops for on-line worship; to seamlessly and professionally stitching together video and audio content submitted by a

variety of church members; and so many more behind-the-scenes technical functions, there appears to be nothing that is outside the scope of what Josh and Gabe have been able to do.

As our church year draws to a close, we are hopeful that we will be able to resume worship in our building – our church home – by late September 2020. However, whether on Broadway or in our living rooms, God will be worshipped and God’s people uplifted, comforted, and encouraged by Westminster United Church – Amen!

Peace, Jeannette Main, for Worship & Sacrament

Celebration Choir At Celebration Choir rehearsals, we are always making a joyful noise! Our numbers were strong this year, with 7 Altos, 10 sopranos, 4 tenors and sometimes 4 basses. We were so happy to welcome back Christy Doner and Marg Smith, and Don Bowles joined our Bass section. Sylvia and D’Arcy Lichti moved to Wasaga Beach and are greatly missed, but they were able to come back and join us for several special choir selections and many of our summer recordings. Sadly, we lost Kathleen Heron this year, and said goodbye to her in a beautiful celebration of life which included all the musical groups that she belonged to and loved: the Celebration Choir, Spirit Band, and the Orangeville Show Chorus. Some highlights of our season include: -Cynthia O’Connell’s covenanting service, where she sang a solo with the choir -a touching Remembrance Day service where the choir sang with tenor Bernie Lynch and welcomed the Legion -a multi-media Christmas cantata service, “The Colours of Christmas” joined by Eric Bruch on percussion, Tom Smith on guitar, John Lemke as soloist and the Spirit Band We sang with and welcomed many guest artists this year: Gracie O’Keefe accompanied by Tom Smith and Joy Bell; tenor Bernard Lynch; soprano Emma Heimbecker; Joan Borden and Lynne Smith in a duo; a new trio collaboration of John Lemke, Joan Borden and Lynne Smith; the one, the only Gary Faris; Kim Stevensen on flute; Embellish bell quartet; the Bells of Westminster were back and the awesome Heavenly Metal youth bell group; Barbara Peaker our amazing bell soloist; soprano Hannah Campbell in a stunning choir/organ performance; alto Cara Cameron who sang my favorite Leo Sowerby piece and joined us for Palm Sunday with the Holy City; and Heather Katz, who blew us away with her rendition of Wade in the Water in one of our last services in the sanctuary before the lockdown. Of course, the Covid 19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown is the big story of this season. Without missing a beat, the Celebration Choir continued to meet every Thursday on Zoom to check in with each other and practice for our recordings. Each member, including myself, went through a HUGE learning curve to acquire the skills to record and send in their individual parts to provide hymns and other music for the online services every week since the end of March. This took a lot of extra time and patience, especially to create our virtual choir video of “From a Distance”, an amazing accomplishment. I am so proud of them for stepping up and contributing so much, and for their willingness to continue their ministry. We are also deeply indebted to the tireless Joshua Lonuzzo, Gabriel Lonuzzo, and Cynthia O’Connell for their work on making our YouTube services look amazing and professional. We are very much longing to be able to sing together one day soon! The Celebration Choir continues to support and get monthly updates from a World Vision child. Choir rehearsals are every Thursday from 7-9, and we warm up on Sunday from 9:45. Every month on the last week we have a social following rehearsal, and take turns providing drinks and treats. These have become quite extravagant! We welcome anyone to come and be a part of this amazing group.

Annual Band Report

This has been a challenging year in so many ways, but we have managed to come together to share our gifts and talents at the following events to support Westminster and our community. During the Covid-19 lockdown, members have done their best to support the music program for the on-line services.

Band members and friends: Joy Bell, David Duncan, Sara Georgas, Chuck Heron, Dixie Lemke, John Lemke, Gerry Orford, Nancy Sicsic, Lynne Smith, Tom Smith, Joyce Winegar; Joan Borden (Trio), Shirley Jemmett (Day by Day).

We are saddened on the passing of one of our founding Spirit Band members, Kathleen Heron. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and her brilliant smile.

Many thanks to our biggest fans, the Congregation! I personally would like to thank Nancy Sicsic, for being a mentor, participant and giving unfailing support.

Annual Report 2020 13

“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”

Welcome. It is a word we use as a greeting. It is a word to describe a feeling. It is a vision we strive to live up to. This year has been one full of welcomes. The welcome I have received from the congregation. The welcome of youth and children into a new Sunday School/Youth room space. The welcome of ongoing participation and leadership by our youth during our services.

This past year saw the continuation of Westminster traditions such as the live nativity and the annual Children’s Christmas concert, “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” During

the concert children of many ages rushed to help decorate our very own Charlie Brown tree. We also welcomed back children and youth to our Guide and Scouting service where five youth earned their Religion in Life badges.

Some newer programs like “Messy Church” continue to grow and have become delightfully intergenerational. Our newer “Picture the Bible” program for Sunday School continues to be a great resource, implemented by myself and our incredible volunteer teachers. This year also saw the return of regional events for youth where two youth and I travelled to Ottawa to partake in the annual event called “Worshiplude.” We plan to return next year with a bigger group.

Of course, this year hasn’t been like others, with the COVID-19 Pandemic forcing us to change how we are a church “all week.” While this has caused much anxiety and grief, I wanted to share that there is also some good to come out of this. Just before the Pandemic reached us in Canada, I started a monthly Youth Group. We met for the first time on March 5th (after bad weather had cancelled our February meeting). Then the building was closed and we couldn’t meet in person. With no other choice, I decided to move the Youth Group online. After one meeting they asked if we could meet weekly, and we have met every Thursday ever

since. In a pandemic we are building a community online, I do not doubt that once we can meet face-to-face again it will continue to be a weekly gathering.

This coming year will see an expansion in our online presence with a weekly Sunday School lesson available on YouTube, more participation from the youth during worship services, confirmation and the return of messy church when safe to do so. Thank you to; the worship committee, our CE teachers, Messy Church organizers and the entire Westminster community for your welcome of me, and our youth and children.

As we are currently directed to social distance from each other, our committee has not had any activities since March 13, 2020.On March 13, we held our first return movie for the Kindred Spirits Cinema. This was a great success with approximately 30 persons in attendance and we raised $70 to be used for future movies.I suspect that our prayer shawl ministry is doing well, considering the indoor time we are having. Can’t wait to see what everyone has knit or crochet during the passed months.During this time let us remember the passage of Psalm 46: 1“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”

This fiscal year saw the impact of COVID-19 starting in mid-March, both financially and program-wise.Mission and Service Fund – We continue to keep the congregation informed by frequently giving a “Minute for Mission” through M&S videos before the start of the church service, and by educating the congregation in all aspects of the Mission and Service Fund including our yearly M&S Fund givings goal.Financials – We are very grateful for the ongoing generosity of the congregation and local service groups. Similar to previous years, we have greatly benefitted from two very large donations; to the Food Cupboard from the Empty Bowls Event, and the Milk Program from a private local Foundation. Milk Program – The number of families served this fiscal year went up by 5 (37 in 2019-2020 compared to 32 in 2018-2019). There were 47 children, 2 pregnant women, and 21 babies (an increase of 7 children, 1 pregnant woman and 5 babies from the previous year). Clients can be on the program for six months at a time, with a waiting period of six months to reapply. There were several requests to extend some families, who needed milk and formula support for a longer period of time. Over the year, we distributed milk coupons and formula for the following:

- 0 x 4 litre bags of 1% milk, compared to 68 bags last year;- 236 x 4 litre bags of 2% (2 to 15 years), compared to 407 bags last year;- 662 x 4 litre bags of homo 3.25% milk, compared to 222 bags last year;- 341 cans/boxes of baby formula were distributed, compared to 262 cans/boxes last year. Each baby receives

$100 worth of formula each month; and- $1,250 in gift cards were given to the families of eight children to meet their need for different types of milk (i.e.

lactose free, soy and almond) or to help accommodate an accessibility barrier. Due to a previous issue at our

partner grocery store, gift cards for the purchase of these milk products were given to the clients instead. The cli-ents were very grateful for this accommodation.

Similar to previous years, December was especially busy with several families applying to the program. March was also very busy with new families accessing the program, however they started before the COVID-19 situation began in mid-March. There was only one family that started between April and June. This may be due to the closure or limited access to the referring agencies/organizations. It may also be due to some families receiving the COVID-19 CERB benefit, and therefore being in a better financial position to meet their needs. We continue to see that the number of coupons distributed does not equal the number redeemed at No Frills (our partner grocery store), based on the expenses incurred. This could be due to various factors, including some clients not using the weekly coupons within the allotted time period, barriers with location etc. The Outreach committee began discussions with some of the referring agencies to the milk program in the previous fiscal year. We will continue to determine ways to make the program more accessible to clients, and determine how we can further meet clients’ needs. Melissa Kovacs Reid is the Milk Program Administrator.Food Cupboard –Up until March, the Food Cupboard was stocked to help clients access food. Many thanks to the volunteers and office staff who kept it going. However, similar to the Clothing Depot, the Food Cupboard also saw a change due to COVID-19. The Orangeville Food Bank, along with other food support programs within the community (including the Westminster Food Cupboard), joined in early April to provide community support as the “Dufferin Food Share” program. All food in the Food Cupboard was donated to the Dufferin Food Share program, which was initially housed at the Salvation Army Church (and then at the new Orangeville Food Bank location). As of June, this initiative was still ongoing. Benevolent Fund – A supply of grocery store gift cards are still available for our Ministry personnel to utilize for requests for assistance that come in.Clothing Depot – From July 2019 to mid-March 2020, the Clothing Depot continued to open the second Wednesday evening of each month, and one Saturday morning per month. Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, the Clothing Depot was closed for the remainder of the fiscal year. This greatly impacted not only the funds generated by the Clothing Depot, but also the access to affordable clothing by the community. Thank you to Tina Torrie and all those volunteers who are so dedicated to the Clothing Depot! Other initiatives in which the OFSJ Action Group is involved include overseeing the Refugee Sponsorship program, being the agent for Kairos for the congregation and participating in the Kairos initiatives, being a founding member of the Headwaters Indigenous Awareness group, and supporting recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Annual Report 2020 18

The U.C.W. membership is declining and it would be impossible for us to cater to the events listed above without the co-operation and help of many volunteers within our Church. For this, we are truly grateful.

Margaret Cody has been kind enough to send birthday cards and anniversary cards to the U.C.W. membership the past year. Please take time to read the financial statement for the U.C.W. Thanks to our treasurer, Carolyne Beaton, for keeping our books in order. This is the second year we did not plan meetings for January and February. Our last meeting was held on March 11, 2020 just before self-isolation for many of us due to the Pandemic, Covid-19. We are living in an unprecedented time with no end in sight. The U.C.W. is missing the fellowship at their monthly meetings. We know our Church family is missing worshipping together on Sunday mornings and the fellowship enjoyed over coffee. Our hope and prayer is that all of you/us will keep well and exercise caution until we can meet again.Last but not least, a big thank you to our President, Sara Georgas, for her leadership throughout the year. She goes above and beyond the call of duty.A Rose was placed on the communion table in August in loving memory of Lyla Albright. Our best wishes were extended to Barb McMahon who moved to Kingston in September and to Betty Trumpour who moved to Lakefield in January. All three of these ladies are missed. On a personal note, I would like to thank all of my U.C.W. friends and Church family for their kindness to me on the sudden death of my husband of 58 years, Wayne, in April. Your cards, donations, notes, telephone calls, emails and refreshments were very much appreciated by me and my family. Words cannot express how blessed we felt to have Rev. Sandra by our side during this sad time. Regretfully, due to Covid-19, no visitation, no hugs, no funeral service could happen. My prayer is that all of you will be kept well and free of the virus.Respectfully submitted,

Dorothy DonnellySecretary

Annual Report 2020 20

For anyone who is new to Westminster, the format of the Men's Fellowship is a monthly meeting at which we have a guest speaker and a wonderful dinner.

The number attending seems to be growing and if you are new to Westminster (real or virtual) please consider joining us. As well, one or two meetings a year could be open to everyone if the topic is of interest.

This year began late with the initial meeting in November with Glenn Trivett as our speaker. An amazing man who related two experiences to us -- one an attempt to climb Everest and the other an ocean row, with a partner, from Australia to the coast of Africa.

He was followed by a great list of speakers;

Beckie Morris - Production Manager, Theatre OrangevilleRuth Phillips - Economic Development, Town of Orangeville

At this point in time, Covid-19 hit and remaining list of speakers had to be cancelled.

Matthew Fleming - Musician with an amazing struggleGabriel and Josh Lonuzzo - Two young men who have become leaders (Environment)Panel on New Health Collaborative; Kim Delahunt, CEO Headwaters Hospital Bob Borden, Chair of our Collaborative Lianne Barbour, Executive Director, Dufferin Area Family Health Team

Hopefully, all these speakers, might be available post Covid-19.

The men's group would like to THANK our phoners who contact all men prior to each meeting and to THANKS to John Lemke for superb technical support.

Annual Report 2020 21

As you know at last year's meeting it was reported that Susanne Boisvenue, a trustee, had agreed to become our Treasurer and with the death of Roy Boenhert, a stalwart trustee, it left two vacancies to fill. Soon after the annual meeting, Jim Lindsay agreed to sit as a trustee.

Unfortunately, we have not had a congregational meeting to approve that appointment.

In this shortened year the only business for trustees was the insurance renewal.

At this time, I would like to thank Grant Bryan for his support, his wisdon and good advice.

Gary Vipond

P.S. If you are reading this report why not volunteer to consider the position of trustee!

MINISTRY AND PERSONNELThe Ministry and Personnel (M&P) Action Group is responsible for providing a consultative and supportive agency for the staff of Westminster and for members and adherents of the congregation. We oversee the relationship of the staff to members of the congregation and others; oversee the relationship between and among different staff members at Westminster with respect to their responsibilities and authority. We also review working conditions and remuneration for the staff and make appropriate recommendations to the Board. We ensure that there are on-going discussions regarding continuing education for our Minister. We also review and evaluate annually the effectiveness of the staff of Westminster and how those persons and positions relate to the mission and vision of the church as defined by the Board. We also review regularly the responsibilities of all staff and revise position descriptions when required or requested.

At Westminster United Church, we have a paid staff consisting of our:MinisterDirector of MusicOffice CoordinatorOffice Assistant Church CaretakerStudent Minister- Youth and Family

M&P bid a warm-hearted farewell to our long-time chair Sabrina O’Keefe. Sabrina’s contributions for the past eight years have been outstanding, and we will miss her insight, strength, drive and passion!

M & P and the congregation bid a fond farewell to Linda Patterson, our office assistant, as she had decided to retire. Carol Hulcoop was hired and welcomed as the new office assistant in October 2019.

Susanne Boisvenue began the year fiscal year as the Treasurer, however at end of March had relinquish the position for personal reasons. The Executive Board nominated Chuck Heron as the Treasurer Elect.

The contract with Tammy Glassford, a professional bookkeeper was ended in December, as the board decided to move forward using an accounting firm that has provided services to many churches. We thank Tammy for all the work she completed including her assistance in the implementation of a streamlined payroll.

Reverend Sandra began modified hours in September and with recommendations and guidance from her doctor, slowly returned to full time duties in February 2020.

Annual Report 2020 23

Westminster was successfully named a site for supervised ministry education (SME) and Cynthia O’Connell was appointed as Youth and Family Minister for a 2-year, 3/4-time placement; which began in August 2019. She has been a welcome addition to our staff, supporting the office as well as Rev. Sandra in her return to work. Cynthia has assisted in our vision of being a “church all week” through her youth ministry.

The Covid 19 pandemic created many challenges, beginning with the closing of the church. This compelled the Executive Board to examine new ways to continue our mission in cost efficient and responsible way. This brought many tough decisions, such as: the lay off of Carol (office assistant), the reduction of Hal’s (custodian) hours and Wendy, (office administrator) taking an extra month off this summer without pay.

Our dedicated staff have successfully made the transition from our regular services in the church to services on YouTube. This transition would not have been possible without the skills of Joshua Lonuzzo, who has been editing all of the video and audio recordings each week. M & P thanks Joshua for all of his hard work to ensure that we have a service to view each Sunday morning. Gabriel Lonuzzo also contributed his talents, providing the aerial views that we enjoy viewing each Sunday. Thank you, Gabriel.

Each week, Nancy makes recordings of all the choir parts and sends it out to the choir members who in turn record their voices and send it in. Joshua uses his magic and combines all of the separate recordings to produce the music we hear each Sunday.

Rev. Sandra has recorded her sermons at the church, Cynthia has completed her recordings from her home. Sandra has been completing pastoral care via telephone or video chat. Cynthia has held Youth Group via zoom on Thursdays. Wendy continues to send compile the information for the newsletters and email out the link for the services each week.

M & P would like to thank Rev. Sandra, Cynthia, Nancy, Wendy, and Hal for all of your dedication during this trying time. We know that the congregation really appreciates all that you do.

Christy Doner, Chair of M&P

Annual Report 2020 24

Members: Jim Richardson - Chair, Anne Richardson - Secretary, Lee Ann Grimes, Gary Vipond, Bob Abuja, Andrew Mallouk, Chuck Heron, George Clarke. (Jim Richardson assumed the ‘Chair’ when John Lemke officially became Board Chair at the Annual Meeting (September 22, 2019) and resigned from Property. We thank John for his contributions to this team.

Meetings were held every second month – July, September, November 2019 and January and March 2020. Since the advent of CoVid 19, communication has been done by email. The new budget was drafted and sent to the group for approval – revised and resent after request from the WUC Board to decrease by $15.000. NEW Budget attached to this report. Savings were found by putting improvements to Room 5 on hold ($3000), and not having a `Zone System Panel` and other alterations to the Fire Plan, ($12,000) which are not required by fire regulations at this time.

Projects completed, underway and in planning stages: This is over and above the regular maintenance/cleaning, repairs, insurance, and overseeing of functions both inside and outside the church building. Included is security, lawn maintenance, snow removal, heating, air conditioning, water, electrical, lighting and computers etc.

1. Renovations completed under the leadership of John Lemke, Project Manager. Auditorium had a total overhaul from floor to ceiling to walls. It now has continuous air circulation. A Kitchenette was added. Side rooms include Clothing Depot, Purse Project, Sorting area, Storage, Accommodation for Chairs and tables. Foyer is larger and has coat racks. Choir Room moved to end of Foyer. Kitchen totally re built with many amenities conforming to a Commercial Kitchen. Rock Room chute completed for clothing de-livery. Room 4 repaired and now used by Youth Ministry. Room 5 continues to be for Self Help Groups, kitchenette added…other improvements to come.Office moved to front of building, and Chapel created – both in old Friendship Room location. The Admin office upstairs repurposed – divided into a smaller office and a meeting room. Railing installed on steps at back door, furnace room entrance. All items returned to the church from off-site storage.

2. Fire Plan revised to current status. Signs erected as required. Smoke detector installed in Steeple and Archives Room.3. Window Well covers installed over basement windows on west side of church. This will prevent

basement flooding during heavy rain.4. Access improved to Archive display cabinet on stair landing.5. First Aid Kits: In lower foyer in original location to also service kitchen, one in office and a smaller

``bandaid kit`` for the Youth Room.6. Roof repairs were completed by Roberts Roofing.

Co-Vid 19 has put some restrictions and requirements on the Property Group.1. Regular in person meetings on hold. As stated, communication done via email. If restrictions

continue in the fall, we will set up Zoom Meetings for the team.2. A check list was developed for the Custodian, as per Insurance requirements from Ecclesiastical

Insurance, to assure all areas of the building were safe and secure during the time it remains un-occupied. A copy of that list accompanies this report. The check list is to be completed and signed weekly by the custodian and returned to the Property Chair.

3. Re-organization of the storage area in the basement (old clothing depot) is on hold. Group rep-resentatives will need to meet for appropriate and efficient use of shelving, and development of signs to indicated spaces. Also clear labelling of containers for easy access. In the need to move items from off site after reno completed, this area did not get properly set up. Property did some sorting but this was interrupted by the pandemic.

The Property Team continues to do its best in spite of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. Jim as Chair is in touch as required with any trades or services. The team encourages any questions or suggestions. New members are also most welcome.

Respectfully submitted:

Anne Richardson, Secretary.

In the coming year Chuck will be our Treasurer.

The Finance Action Group would like to express our gratitude to all those who supported Westminster United Church through PAR and envelope givings. Without your generous support, there would be no church. Our challenge is to increase our givings to break even with expenses.

End of Year Report 2020Regional Representative

Region 8 Western Ontario Waterways

The Regional Council Meeting for May 29-31, 2020 was cancelled because of the COVID19 pandemic.

I am a member of the Resource Pool of the Human Resources Commission. We are responsible for the ‘formation and nurturing of healthy pastoral relationships’ and ‘the equipping and licensing of Lay Worship Leaders’. This past year we have met with and helped one church search for a new minister and also to become a Student Ministry site.

We are working to increase awareness of the LLWL role among communities of faith, encourage more interested congregants to take the training and to update the forms used by LLWL’s to keep track of hours. LLWL’s are recertified every 3 years. We have been working on new questionnaire and self-reporting forms for this purpose. Interviews will begin in October via Zoom.

There will be an article in the WOW newsletter to communicate with congregations about this role and to encourage people to apply.

The next Regional Council meeting will take place via Zoom from October 15-18 The Regional Celebration of Ministry Service will be live streamed Sunday October 18.

The election of a new President will take place at this meeting. Nomination forms must be in by Friday October 16 at 6 pm. The nomination form can be found on the WOW website. The nominee will speak for 5 min. October 17.
