• A minimally invasive medical procedure or minimal invasive surgery is a less-painful, less time-consuming and efficient surgical procedure performed by inserting a sophisticated device to the target organ or structure through the skin or body cavity or an anatomical opening.
• A minimally invasive procedure or minimally invasive surgery has less operative trauma when compared to the invasive procedures. Unlike conventional surgeries where most surgeons cut along 3/4 to the full length of the mass to access it or remove it, and which require longer hospital stays and lengthy recovery period, a minimally invasive procedure causes very less damage. Also, it avoids longer hospital stays and lengthy recovery periods.
• Further, a minimally invasive procedure reduces the possible incidence of complication after the surgery (post-surgical complications). One problem that still persists even with minimally invasive procedures is that most of them still require general anesthesia to be administered prior to surgery.
