Is a way to develop a descriptive understanding of the human behavior.
It makes use of the following methods:
- Observation - Notes - Interview - Customer Surveys - Operability Assessments - Focus Groups
It keeps the following principles:
- Natural Setting - Holism - Descriptive - Members’ Point of View
- Carton Models- Collaborative Design- Carton Models- Collaborative Design

LabScapeLabScape
• Completely digital solution.
• Many tablet computers in the lab.
• Basically it’s a digital protocol.
• You can design the experiment.
• You can execute the experiment.
• Archiving, sharing, reviewing.
ButterflyNetButterflyNet
• Designed for the field biologist.
• Paper-based input
• Paper commands
• Digital browsing
• Data transcription
A-Book: The missing linkA-Book: The missing link
• Uses a tablet input
• Uses as PDA as a enhancing lense
• Layered Approach (paper layer, digital layers)
• Linking digital info (video, urls) to a physical spot on the notebook.
PrismPrism
• Integration of multiple streams of activities (labbook, desktop, web, CSCW).
• Paper notebook (later scanned)
• Digital notebook (blog/journal)
• Agregate computer activities:
• Web• Email• Documents• Feeds
