    Hints

    for

Planning, designing and developing a mini project in the form of an article for

    international journal

The contents of the project are as follows

Abstract ( to be done at the end )

    1. Introductiona. General introduction 1to 2 pages

    b. Research Problem half a page

    c. Objectives of the research half a page

    d. Scope of the research Half a page

    2. Survey of literature - Six to seven pages

    3. Research Methodology - half to one page

    a. Research Framework with a model ( example with dependent and independent variables are

given separately)b. Sources of data mostly secondary data in the from of literatures

    4. Discussion, analysis and findings - four to six pages

    5. Limitations and conclusions - one page

    References in Harvard style

How to start to write a mini project in the form of an article for international journal.

    1. Collect minimum 20 articles of variables identified for the project

    2. The starting Point is survey of literature. The purpose of survey of literature is

    a. To acquire gross roots of the subject and become an expert in the area in which you write

your thesisb. To ascertain the present situation of the topic and progress made so far by the previous

    authors.

    c. To provide as a launching pad from which mini research can be continued to explore or

discover new findings or discovery of new facts by the students.

    d. To present the brief summary of literatures under four or five variables identified.

While selecting a particular literature, the following three QRT principles are to be followed.

    a. Quality of literatureb. Relevance of literature

    c. Timeliness of literature

It is suggested to follow the following format to review the survey of literature. Please use landscape size of

    the table

    Author(year)

    Name of the

    journal, vol

    issue no

    Topic of the

    article

    Major finding in bullet

    points ( Please avoid

    writing sentences)

    Variables

    used in the

    article

    Researc

    h model

    or tools

    used inthe

    article

    Limitations or

    scope for

    future research

    mentioned inthe article

Every article should be reviewed and presented in the above format . After completing review of at least

20 articles, the students are expected to give their critical evaluation of the articles independently

    presenting them under each variable.

The review should be in your own language based on the bullet point findings.. ( No copying from article)

Each variable can have a sub heading under survey of literature. Under each variable, dont present author

after author review. You must mix them under one variable. An example is given below.

    Topic of the project

The study of net profit for computer industry in Singapore.

    Dependent Variable: Net profit

Independent variables ( factors influencing dependent variable): 1)Sales, 2)Labor cost, 3)materials cost,

    4)Selling and admin expenses, 5)interest, 6)taxation.

Thus, totally there is one dependent variable and six independent variables. For example, the literature

review for sales variable is as follows..

    Sales

While Robertson(2009) stressed that sales played an important role in determining net profits of computer

industry, David (2008) observed that pricing policy was solely responsible to be an important determinant

of net profits. In many cases, competitive price increases the demand and thereby increases demand which

in turn influences increased sales. On the other hand, Andrew (2004) lays importance on economic

conditions to stimulate or discourage sales. During boom conditions of economy, the sales would surge and

during recessionary conditions of economy, sales would be on the reverse. But Peter (2009) made an

exception to this by quoting example of pharmaceutical industry where the growth of sales are in

conformity with health conditions of the population. He further asserted that linkage of sales withprofitability is unquestionable. Zainol (2001) states that in many occasions, sales are influenced by

environmental factors such as social systems, religious practices, economic situation, political and legalfactors, last but not least technological factors.

Like this, you have use the contributions of at least four or five authors for each variable.

Now, the student is in a better position ( by mastering the subject) to identify a research problem or

research gap or research questions which were left untouched by the previous authors.

    3. Research Problems

This should be done on the basis of survey by identifying research problem or research gap or

    research questions.

4.Objectives of the research At least three objectives

Solutions to the research problems are the objectives of the research

    5. Scope of the study

As for as possible, please try to restrict the scope, so that you can have in depth analysis andfindings in a better way. If you expand the scope, the write up on discussion and analysis will be

    too longer and becomes unmanageable.

    6. Introduction

Now, write introduction part of the project with the help of the survey of literature. Her also, quote

    your sources.

    7. Research methodology

This research is based on secondary data. Number of articles are collected, classified, reviewed

and commented for the purpose of the research. The articles are relevant and up to date to the

topic of the research. To discuss and analyze the various issues and problems, a research

framework is presented in the form of charts. This research framework is presented with a view to

identify dependent variable and independent variable.

    8. Discussion, Analysis and Findings

Please note that this should be a substantial contribution to new knowledge in the area or

    discovery of new fact.

Please note that this should not be repetition of survey of literature. It must be your own

contribution. Here, achievements of the objectives are to be explained along with your findings on

the topic. Discuss the achievement of objectives one by one.

Presentations must have a solid support of charts or graphs or tables drawn as a result of

statistical tools applied to test the hypothesis.

Discuss the pros and cons of various approaches or alternatives and give your findings which

should derive as original contribution from you. Here also, you can quote authors who have given

a similar findings or different findings.

    9. Limitations of research

Areas which were not touched or high lighted can be mentioned.

    10. Conclusion

    Summary and recommendation

    11. Please remember No Plagiarism
