Stitch Explanation:
Inc = (Knit into the front and back of the
stitch…1 stitch increased)
Dec = (Knit 2 stitches together knit-wise…
1 stitch decreased)
Sl1pw = (Slip 1 stitch, purlwise)
St st = (Stockinette stitch…alternating knit
and purl rows)
Notes:
The blankets are interchangeable. Choose
whichever stitch pattern you prefer. The collar
design is for all animals. I have stitched it in
colors that match the blanket, but you may
wish to make it in a contrasting color. The
collar takes approx. 11 yds. of yarn, and has
been included in the amount needed for the
blanket.
When fastening off, always leave a 24” long
tail for stitching seams together or attaching
animal parts later.
Although seams are usually turned inside-out
to stitch and then turned right-side-out after
the seam is stitched, for the construction of
these animals and easier access, it is
recommended that you neatly stitch the
seams together when right-side-out, stuffing
as you go along, unless otherwise instructed.
Stitch seams together using any method you
prefer and are most comfortable with.
Blocking the blankets before attaching
animals is suggested. It will produce a more
uniform product. I simply wet the blanket
under the faucet, squeeze out excess water,
wrap it in a towel and twist to remove even
more water. Then place the blanket on a flat
surface, adjust with hands to form a 12”
square and allow to dry.

color…Now, working at the cast-on edge, thread
yarn tail onto large-eyed blunt needle. Thread
needle through 6 cast-on sts and pull up to gather.
Begin stitching seam towards contrast color,
stopping to stuff head firmly. Do NOT close seam
yet. With seam on the underside, decide on
placement of toy safety eyes…just below the main
color yarn, 1/2” apart. You may have to remove
some of the head stuffing to place them in, and then
re-stuff the head very firmly, pushing out cheeks and
forehead, after eyes have been placed in. If you
would like the eyes to appear “indented”, and to
make them more secure, place a little stuffing
around the stem of the eye before pushing on the
washer. When head is stuffed, it should be approx.
6 ½” around the widest part of the forehead, 6 ½”
around the cheek area.
To make the mouth appear indented, insert needle
with contrast color yarn under head, and exit the
mouth at the point of gathered stitches. Re-enter a
stitch or two away and exit at the original point of
entrance, under the head. Pull to make mouth indent
and secure.
The nose will be placed just above the decreases.
Using 2 strands of contrast color yarn, make a
French knot, wrapping 2 times around the needle
before reinserting needle. 3
