  • Faizi: I’m going to sing my favorite prayer. I’ve been practicing all week. My sisters are baking cookies – want to come over and decorate them with us?

Dorothy: I’m bringing flowers. And Uncle Bruce is

going to teach us a new song. I’ve got to write the words on pieces of paper.

    Want to help me?

Olinga: My mom can’t go tonight so I’m giving her

Fund Report. She made some pictures for me to show. Can you guys help me hold these pictures? We can share reading a

    story. It’ll be fun.

    GEMS KIDS TALK

Soo: I’m going to play a video of a prayer about Dominion. It’s called, Dominion is God’s. It’s sung by a mother and daughter. Do you want to hear it? It’s really easy to learn.

  • Ayyám-i-Há is just around the corner! It starts at sunset on February 24th and last 5 days. Here’s a handmade gift idea anyone would love. Are you ready to make some tie-dye bookmarks? We found this idea on: https://happyhooligans.ca

    You’ll need:

Store-bought bookmark (to trace) Pencil Sturdy scissors or kitchen shears Hole punch Sharpie markers Plastic containers or Acrylic sheets

Rubbing alcohol (99% isopropyl) Polyurethane spray varnish Medicine dropper or cotton swab Ribbon, twine, or cording Decorative bead or button

NOTE: Remember to cover the work area to protectit! STEPS:

    1. If using recycled plastic containers, remove labels and clean off any residual glue. It is best to find containers that have some flat sides. One large container should make about 4 bookmarks.

    2. Trace the store-bought bookmark - or make your own designs - on the plastic with a pencil. Fit as many as you can before cutting.

    3. Cut out lots of bookmarks with your sturdy scissors. Be sure to round the corners. Sharp edges can hurt!

    4. Color the bookmarks with as many markers as you like. Cover the entire bookmark with blocks of color. Any way is the right way!

    5. Fill a dropper or wet a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol. With the bookmark lying flat, drip tiny drops on to it. TIP: Tap on the dropper/swab to get tiny drops of alcohol to splatter.

    6. Sit and watch. Keep the bookmark flat or the colors will run together. Watch and see the colors blend and fuse together. Experiment with the amount of color and alcohol you use. If you are not happy with the way your design is going, wipe it clean with a paper towel, and start again.

    7. Let your bookmark dry completely. 8. Spray varnish to prevent your Sharpie tie-dye from rubbing off. It

needs only a quick light spritz. Spray too much, and your design will begin running together again. Do not brush on liquid varnishes. They will dissolve your artwork.

    9. Allow the varnish to dry and then spray with a second coat. Be patient.. While you are waiting, make another bookmark or help someone.

    10. When the varnish has dried completely, punch a hole in the top of the bookmark. 11. Finally, thread a ribbon or cording through the hole, and embellish with a bead or button.

Share your designs on our Facebook page or email us with a picture of your project. Then we can share on our website!
