Military Training Program (MTP)
Military Training Program (MTP)
SMS Ltd Africa will provide a strict and disciplined Military Training Program
(MTP) to the Galmudug State Armed Forces. The MTP is designed to bring
structure and uniformity, whilst introducing discipline through a chain of
command which will control and lead units within the GMS Armed Forces.
The MTP offers the opportunity to unite the military and clan forces under one
banner which will be led by local commanders. The program will also create
organisation, self-discipline and crucial life experience providing each member
with vital skill sets to enhance their capabilities to perform as professional and
recognised soldiers. By forming regular and established Armed Forces within the
Galmudug State region, we are building trust and respect among the people who
they will serve and protect.
SMS Ltd will dedicate our top and most experienced specialists to advise and
support the Local Armed Forces and to guide the Military Commanders, providing
them with the necessary skills to lead by example.
The MTP will focus on the following key areas:
• Introduction of Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF)
• Military Fitness Training Program (MFTP)
• Weapon Handling & Training
• Military Tactics & Strategy
• Introduction (creation) of a Special Forces Unit
• Introduction (creation) of Galmudug Maritime Forces (GMF)
Armed Forces Training Regiment Galkacyo
The Armed Forces Training Regiment or ATR will be located in Galkacyo and will
be responsible for conducting the Basic Training of the Galmudug Armed Forces
(GAF). The Regiment’s role is to carry out Basic Training of the new recruits and
Armed Forces Personnel whilst providing the necessary infrastructure, security
and centralised support and administration to the National Armed Forces of the
Galmudug State Region.
ATR Galkacyo Command Structure
The Commanding Officer of ATR Galkacyo will
be H.E. President Abdi Hassan Awale (Qeybdid)
with his senior ranking officers acting as
Garrison Commanders.
The Training Team will consist of SMS Ltd personnel and consultants who will
be in-charge of arranging and conducting the Basic Training and Military
Training Program (MTP).
ATR Galkacyo Responsibilities & Capabilities
ATR Galkacyo will be responsible for the training of ALL new recruits that enter
the Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF). ATR Galkacyo has the ability to deliver Phase
1 and 2 Training to standard entry recruits who are looking to join the GAF.
The Training Regiment in Galkacyo has been specifically structured to cater both
Land Based Forces and Maritime or Naval Forces, this ensuring the Galmudug
Armed Forces (GAF) have the right combination to successfully carryout Joint
Operations and Movements whilst having the capability to secure GMS Territory
and Territorial Waters.
GAF Selection
All candidates looking to join the Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF) are required to
undergo selection. During this period the candidates will attend a number of
suitability interviews and take an aptitude test to identify their potential and key
skill-sets in which the GAF can develop and strengthen.
The Selection Process will also include a full Medical Examination and a Physical
Training Assessment prior to making a decision on what Regiment or Division the
candidate is more suitable to join.
The Selection Process and Basic Training of Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF) will be
conducted and carried out at ATR Galkacyo.
GAF Basic Training
GAF Basic Training is split into two phases which focus on providing a high level of
Military and Specialist Training in conjunction with the Common Military Syllabus
(CMS).
The CMS and PMTP covers the essential skills needed to operate and survive in a
field environment along with ensuring each recruit is physically and mentally fit
and strong enough for active military duties.
Phase 1 Basic Training
Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF) recruits will undergo Phase 1 Basic Training to
bring all trainees to a similar standard in Basic Military Skills (BMS) and Physical
Training.
Phase 1 Basic Training is designed to introduce recruits to the military system
and way of life along with developing key characteristics and skill-sets required
to be a professional soldier.
Phase 1 Basic Training builds the following core
values:
• Courage
• Commitment
• Discipline
• Integrity
• Loyalty
• Respect
The trainee is required to demonstrate competence in
all training objectives in order to successfully
continue/progress to Phase 2 Basic Training.
Phase 2 Basic Training
Phase 2 Basic Training is where the recruits will split off into their respective
branches of the Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF) they wish to serve in.
At ATR Galkacyo, Phase 2 Basic Training focusses on the following branches:
a. Galmudug Army (GA)
b. Galmudug Maritime Forces (GMF)
Phase 2 Basic Training is where Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF) recruits will
enhance their Military Training and skills along with receiving an opportunity to
undertake specialist training. Recruits will further their knowledge and
experience by learning a specific military skill-set or trade which they will
continue to develop throughout their individual career.
Basic Training Schedule
The Armed Forces Training Regiment in Galkacyo will be a continuous training
regiment with a steady turnover of recruits.
Each phase of Basic Training is different and will consist of the following:
Phase 1 Basic Training (26 Weeks)
Weeks 1-6: Introductory Phase focussing on Individual Skills, Drill, Basic Weapon
Training and Military Fitness
Weeks 7-21: Team Skills, Endurance Training, Military Tactics and Fieldcraft
Weeks 22-24: Live Firing, Battle Camp and Final Assessments
Weeks 25-26: Recruits prepare for Phase 2 Training
Phase 2 Basic Training (33 Weeks)
Weeks 1-2: Recruits are introduced to their respective GAF branches (units)
a. Galmudug Army
b. Galmudug Maritime Forces (GMF)
Weeks 3-6: Unit Values and Standards, Physical Training and Military Fitness,
Team Skills, Drill, Basic Weapon Training and Introduction to Military Tactics and
Unit Operations
Weeks 7-25: Military Tactics, including Introduction to Section Attacks, Fieldcraft,
Patrol Patterns and Skills, Skill at Arms Lessons and Advance Weapons Training,
Team Skills, Endurance Training and Drill
Weeks 26-27: Live Firing Week, Full Range Package
Weeks 28-31: Final Exercise and Assessments
Week 32: Award Ceremony, Recruit receive their Berets and Cap Badges
Week 33: Recruits prepare to join their Regiments, Battalions and Units
Military Tactics & Strategy
The Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF) will adopt a modern approach to warfare and
combat that will enable them to present their forces in a professional and
organised manner, displaying a multitude of Modern Warfare Military Tactics and
Techniques.
When preparing Military Tactics and Strategy, the Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF)
will use a 3 Level Planning System to implement a battle strategy and techniques
that combine military weapons and units for engaging and defeating an enemy in
battle.
GAF will have the capability to successful launch both Offensive and Defensive
Military Operations using the terrain and ground to their advantage, enabling
them to maintaining full control over the enemy.
Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF) will have the ability to make "Tactical"
decisions in which have an immediate impact, instantly affecting their enemy
or “Strategic” decisions which target the overall value irrespective of the
immediate return.
Introduction (creation) of Galmudug Maritime Forces (GMF)
The Galmudug Maritime Forces or the GMF is the principal Naval Warfare Service
branch of the Galmudug Armed Forces (GAF).
The creation of the Galmudug Maritime Forces
(GMF) will see stability restored the region as
GMF’s first task will be to tackle piracy and
maritime crime. The Galmudug Maritime Forces
(GMF) will work alongside the Coalition and
International Navy Forces in policing the Somali

The role of the Galmudug Maritime Forces (GMF) is to protect Somali interests
both at home and abroad, executing the Foreign and Defence Policies of the
Galmudug State Government through the exercise of military actions, along with
diplomatic activities in support of GAF objectives.
With a professional navel and marine force and a number of assets tactically
positioned along the Galmudug Coastline, the GMF can deliver numerous
objectives via a number of core values:
1. Protection of Galmudug and Somali Territorial & Economic Zone
2. Prevention of an Imminent Attack or Assault on Galmudug Coast/Territory
through a selection of Maritime Countermeasures, Military Tactics and
Deterrents
3. Formation of two medium scale Maritime Task Groups with the capability of
deploying numerous assets and forces with ease
4. Capability to assist allied forces
Galmudug Marine Commando (GMC)
The Galmudug Marine Commando (GMC) is a highly trained and l amphibious
light infantry force and forms part of the Galmudug Maritime Forces (GMF).
The GMC are capable of deploying at short notice in support of the Galmudug
Armed Forces (GAF) military and diplomatic objectives both locally and
overseas. The GMC is organised into two Brigades, the 1st Commando Light
Infantry Brigade and 2nd Commando Marine Brigade, both capable of operating
in the amphibious role.
Introduction (creation) of GAF Special Forces Units
SMS Ltd Africa will create a Special Forces Operation Group (SFOG) to carry out
special tasks and projects, along with specialising in high risk military operations
and movements. The SFOG will consist of finest military personnel from the
Galmudug Army (GA) and Galmudug Maritime Forces (GMF).
The Galmudug Special Forces Operation Group (SFOG) will consist of the
following units:
• Special Task Force (STF)
• Marine Assault Force (MAF)
• Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR)
Special Task Force (STF)
The Special Task Force is a regiment of the Galmudug Army and along with the
Marine Assault Force and the Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR) forms part
of the Special Forces Operation Group (SFOG).
The Special Task Force or STF is tasked primarily with Counter-Terrorism during
peacetime and Special Operations in wartime. The STF consists of some of the
highest trained and most skilled soldiers that specialise in “Special Operations”,
Military Movements and Tactics, along with Rescue Operations. The STF are
predominantly a Land Based Special Forces Regiment but have the capability to
adapt to a marine role for Maritime Operations.
The Specialist Task Force (STF) has three Operational Squadrons which specialise
in different areas. The Squadrons are as follows:
Boat Squadron: Specialise in maritime skills such as Scuba Diving and the use of
Military RHIB or Inflatable Boats and often train and operate with the Marine
Assault Force.
Mobility Squadron: Specialise in Tactical Movements and Military Operations via
the use of vehicles, the squadron is capable of operating a wide range of vehicles
which include land, marine and air support assets.
Survival Squadron: Specialise survival in different
climates and weather conditions and are experts in
operating in “foreign” territory. The Survival Squadron
are specialists in Artic, Desert, Mountain and Jungle
Warfare.
Special Projects Team (SPT)
In addition to three squadrons, STF will have a Special Projects Team (SPT) that
will specialise in homeland security issues, including Anti-Hijacking, Counter-
Terrorism and Counter-Surveillance. The SPT will be trained in Close Quarter
Battle (CQB), Hand-to-Hand Combat and Knife-Fighting, enabling them to resolve
issues discreetly at close quarters.
The unit also has a close protection team
in which they will provide personal
security to senior politicians and military
personnel.
Marine Assault Force (MAF)
The Marine Assault Force (MAF) is the Special Forces Unit of the Galmudug
Maritime Forces (GAF).
The Maritime Assault Force predominantly consists of personnel from the
Galmudug Maritime Forces and the Galmudug Marine Commando Brigades.
The Marine Assault Force is similar to the Special Task Force; however the
regiment has a larger focus on amphibious operations and tasks.
The Marine Assault Force (MAF) has three Operational Squadrons which
specialise in different areas. The Squadrons are as follows:
Tactical Squadron: Specialises in Maritime Counter Terrorism, Maritime
Defence Tactics and Homeland Security. The squadron is also responsible for
configuring the tactical and operational structure and movements of the
Maritime Assault Force.
A Squadron: Specialise in active Operations, Movements and Specialist Tasks
of a maritime nature. The squadron is also amphibious and capable of carrying
out operations and tasks on land. A Squadron often train and operate with the
Boat Squadron.
B Squadron: Specialise in the use of Marine and Maritime Assets for Tactical
Military Operations of a Specialist Nature.
Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR)
The SRR is a specialist unit dedicated to conducting covert reconnaissance and
surveillance operations. The unit’s main tasks include the gathering of
intelligence and counter-terrorism operations of both a surveillance and
offensive action nature.
Other key roles include reconnaissance and combat action on enemy territory,
sabotage and the disruption of enemy infrastructure, tactical patrols and
raiding missions including the capture of specific individuals.
The Special Reconnaissance Regiment or SRR is responsible for providing
Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) for the Galmudug Armed
Forces (GAF) and Government Agencies and draws its personnel from existing
units within the GAF, GMF and other SFOG units.
Sniper Platoon
Galmudug snipers are trained to a high level on long range elimination and
advanced shooting techniques. Each member is an excellent marksmen and
master sniper that have the capability to eliminate targets and threats from a
distance away.
Sniper training is conducted at Galmudug
Training Regiment Galkacyo.
