Congratulations on your decision to begin or continue your educational goals at Rhode Island College. Whether you are continuing your education or just getting started; currently serving on active duty; a reservist; a national guardsman; a veteran or a family member; we have the programs to help you complete your personal mission of achieving your education goals.

We understand the military and the challenges of transitioning to civilian life. Our dedicated admissions counselors, experienced military leadership, and military-trusted faculty are here to serve. So please feel free to stop by early and stop by often.

What we do

We provide assistance with the admissions process, applying for military educational benefits and scholarships, referrals to various academic departments around campus. Additionally, we maintain a large network within the community to refer students to organizations specializing in veteran services.

VETSUCCESS ON CAMPUSThe Rhode Island College VetSuccess on Campus (VSOC) program aims to help Veterans, Service members, and their qualified dependents succeed and thrive through a coordinated delivery of on-campus benefits assistance and counseling.

• In partnership with the Department of Veteran Affairs, RIC has a VA employee on campus to assist the student Veteran population. The VetSuccess on Campus Coordinator is Micaela Black.

• The VSOC Counselor helps to quickly resolve any problems that could potentially interfere with a Veteran's educational program, to include assisting with disability accommodations.

• If needed, The VSOC Counselor can also provide referrals for health services through VA Medical Centers, Community-Based Outpatient Clinics, or Vet Centers.

Easy Steps for Military-Connected Students • Veterans, military service members, and family members using benefits are

encouraged. This is an option that connects you to specific programs and support for Military Students.

• Here are 3 bonuses for you:• You will be connected early to our Veteran Services on campus.• You will learn of orientation programming tailored more specifically for your

needs.• You will be connected to services to waive the $50 application fee AND defer

the $200 admission deposit provided you are using educational benefits and can produce documentation of military service (i.e. DD214, Active Duty orders).

DoD’s Tuition Assistance (TA) Program

Important Note: All prospective Federal Tuition Assistance Students must first speak with their unit Education Service Officer (ESO), a military counselor, or visit their local installation Education Center regarding the use of Federal Tuition Assistance.

Service members must coordinate with ESO's and receive approval from commanders before they begin using Federal Tuition Assistance.

STAP Waiver Process RI Air National Guard & RI Army National Guard Members

• Student must register for classes first

• Student completes the (online) Fillable STAP Waiver form• You will list your classes for the upcoming semester• Include your School ID # or DOB on the STAP form• Bursar Office will need the ID # or DOB to process the form and indicate

the tuition waiver

• Submit completed form to RI ANG or RI ARNG Education Liaison

• Education Liaison will digitally sign on their end and send back to the student

• Student will have to get the completed / signed form back to the school, to be emailed to [email protected]

Disabled Veterans Tuition Waiver

Program Description• Disabled veterans receive free tuition at Rhode Island College

Eligibility• Veteran with 10-100% service-connected disability• Permanent resident of RI• Student must apply for and use financial aid first• Applies to tuition only, all fees associated with the tuition will continue to be

charged to the waiver applicant

What is the VRF/RIC?The VRF/RIC is emergency financial assistance for Rhode Island College veterans funded by a grant from the RI Office of Veterans Affairs.

• The Rhode Island College Veterans Relief Fund (VRF/RIC) is designed to remove some of the monetary stressors veterans may face, and connect veterans to a more secure financial plan in order to contribute to long-term academic success and persistence.

• VRF/RIC provides short-term monetary support to qualified applicants facing financial hardship by awarding support (gift cards) for food, gas, and/or household goods.

• Applicants must be RIC students, veterans, and RI residents.

Applications for the current 2019/20 Veterans Relief Fund are now closed.
