DIGITAL MEDIA SPECIALIZATION PROJECT
Milestone 2
Personal Branding
Thao TrinhS3479980
Project Overview
The project is about building a personal visual and verbal identity for myself using my design expertise. It’s a transmedia personal branding program: how to tell a story about me across media, with understanding that each medium can offer unique brand experiences for the audience. This approach is essential to create an experience based on my visual and verbal presence.
After taking the feedback from my project proposal, I’ve decided to not immerse myself too much in communication design like I’ve always been. Instead of letting my website be at the end of the list, it’s my first priority now. Additionally, I also dropped out ideas for print promotional materials and think more of different media the clients can see my work, rather than doing fun stuff for nothing. Therefore, the project elements now consist of less print materials as I want to present myself more of a digital media designer:
• The logo and its animation• Online portfolio• Stationery kit (letterhead, business card, envelopes etc.): mock-ups, no prints• Portfolio (print)• Other promotional materials that can show my craft and printing skills
Project Timeline
Basically, I’ve done all the tasks according to my new work timeline which prioritise interactive elements over prints. In detail, instead of printing out stationery kit in week 7, I will do it in week 11 or even drop the it out of my project and only do the mockups. I also decided to make logo animation as well as experimenting interactive business card, which are not included in the first timeline.
The task I need to complete by the final milestone 3 is my portfolio website with all the necessary assets such as icons, work archives and visual device of my brand.

Although getting milestone 1 feedback for too focus on typography, I still want to design a logotype for myself. However, I also created an animation version of it and a set of pattern, which are not in my original plan. The whole idea is to present myself as a digital media designer without losing my characteristics completely.
The logo is the initials of my last name ‘Trinh’ which is quite uncommon in Vietnam, making the reason why I didn’t choose my first name ‘Thao’ which is very common. The logo simulates the handwrite/sketches in a dot-grid sketchbook that results in the difference of stroke weight in the monogram. The logo animation, pattern and website are also designed based on this concept.

Logo
Color Exploration
As the logo already has a classic and old look, I want to create a contrast in the meaning by adding bright color. The whole look of the logo at this stage - with color added and animation represents dual nature in me: retro - contemporary.

Pattern
In consistent with the logo design, my pattern is designed to look like dotted grid. The pattern contains all of the characters in my first name when being written abstractly.
Interactive Business card
Instead of making too much of print materials and mock-ups for stationery, I researched of different ways to show my identity to the clients through a business card. What I’ve experimented so far is one of the Augmented Reality applications that aim to digitally enhance user’s experience of real life. When my business card is scaned, the app will take the card as an trigger image to display the animation overlaying it, as well as a link to my porfolio website.

Website Mock-ups
The website now is the most important element in my project which I will focus on working in the next few weeks. My concern now is the coding which is not my strong point. After week 10, if I cannot catch up with my timeline, I will only code some of the important pages of my website or dropping out some content such as the amount of works I’ve done.I started to work on my website last week in terms of information architecture, layouts and color exploration. I also think of ways to make the site more engaging from the start, like how the loading state of the site should be. However, I still need to think of its interactity such as what things will happen when users roll the page or hover on the logo.
