Present in central and northern parts of Montenegro

32 rainbow trout farms (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

Farming method:

• 29 farms use water from watercourses,

• 3 farms on lakes apply cage farming method.

Annual production: around 500t

Mariculture17 farms / in total

16 farms of Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis)

• use the rope farming method. • Annual production 200t

3 European flat oyster farms (Ostrea edulis) Annual production 1t

2 farms of sea-bream (Sparus aurata) and sea-bass (Dicentrarchus labrax)

• Use cage farming method• Annual production 120 t

Boka Kotorska Bay provides an extensive sheltered spot covering 87 km², with good access for the production of rope mussels.

Several years of investigation about possibilities of production of mussels and other edibles bivalves in ecological conditions of Boka Kotorska Bay (showed that there are lot of favorable localities for industrial production of these mollusks).

Spatial Plan for Special Purpose Coastal Zone (2007)

1st category ZONE due to the adequacy of all preconditions is determined only for mariculture and complementary activities

2nd category ZONE is for mariculture and other business activities that do not have negative impact on mariculture, but due to certain circumstances mariculture does not have a priority.

3rd category ZONE is the zone where mariculture cannot be performed under any circumstances.

MARICULTURE ZONES are wider areas that are defined based on data on the quality of the natural environment, existing and planned use of space, population density, infrastructure, economic, social and public activities on the subject area.
