Cities transformation

Given urbanisation trends, on-going transformations towards increasingly knowledge-intensive economies as well as their growing share of resource consumption and emissions, cities are becoming even more of a focal point for our economies and societies at large.

To meet public policy objectives under these circumstances, cities need to change but in times of tight budgets this change needs to be achieved in a smart way: cities need to transform themselves into 'smart cities'.

Future energy networks

• Central and decentralized energy production

• Integration of local and global solutions

• Buildings and mobility system are active part of energy network

• Energy network management

• Energy storages and smart energy networks

• Changing value chains

Understanding user preferences

• Human thermal model to estimate better thermal comfort and to crease demand based control of temperatures

• Human behavior patters to forecast building energy demand

Crowdsourcing

19/05/2015 16

• Travellers, vehicles, transport networks and goods – always connected, always located

– Best possible information of the situation now and in the near future

– Optimization, handling and preventing the incidents

• “Best” itinerary for every trip

– real-time, updating itself on the go

– all modes (public, private, walking/biking, ride-sharing) included

• Traveler and vehicles are not only receiving information, but also collecting and transferring it

• Public Private Partnership – “one counter for the user”
