• Name: Joseph Shuster

• He was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 10th 1914

• He was both a penciller and an inker.

• His most notable work is the subject of this project… Superman!

• He died in the year 1992 July 30th… 78 years old

Super who?

• Like somebody would EVER say thatSuperman is probably the first superhero that comes to peoples minds when you say superhero… He was made March 1932 and sold to “Detective comics, inc.” in 1938 for a comic book named “Action Comics” issue #1. He was designed by our very own Canadian born Joe Shuster.

The invention

• Date: March 1932

• Sold: For the June 30 1938 issue of Action comics

• Made by two friends from Cleveland Ohio.

• Description: A man in blue tights with a large “S” on his chest wearing a long red cape. He has enormous muscles and black hair. He is a comic book superhero.

• Superman was invented to entertain people who liked to read comic books… Joe and Jerome never thought he would become so big across north America.

• Today, he still serves the same purpose… but now… he does it on TV, in movies, in comic books and in other places too!

• Prizes and honours:

• In 2005, he was entered into the Joe Shuster Comic book Hall of fame.

• The Canadian award for comic book creators is named the Shuster award in honour of his crowning glory that is Superman.

• A street in his home town of Toronto was named Joe Shuster Way in his honour.

• Another comic book made by the same Super-Duo was Funnyman… A comic strip the was made in 1948… He failed to get peoples attention… so he was dropped and forgotten. He only got to be in 6 comics and 1 comic strip.
