• From January 2014 the School of Health Professions and the School of Nursing and Midwifery will merge into a new school
• The name is currently being decided through consultation with students and staff and will be announced in November 2013
• The merger will not impact on your course and will facilitate further inter-professional collaboration within the school

Some Interprofessional learning takes place
Students are expected to be able to cover
24 hour/7 day/week cycle (i.e. Shift work)
Student works alongside a mentor (40%) in clinical practice

Entry requirements
• All applications are through UCAS Course code B720
• A Levels A/B/B to include at least 2 full A-Levels
• Science or Social Science is desirable - General Studies not accepted
• Range of other qualifications considered on an individual basis, for example• Access course approved for entry to midwifery
programme – 45 credits level 3, 15 credits level 2, 30 credits at Distinction
• BTEC Nat Dip in Health related subject - DDD
• Strong GCSE profile including Science, Maths and English at Grade C or above

Entry requirements
• A clear personal statement indicating ability and desire to become a midwife
• An academic reference that indicates potential to study at degree level
• Work based reference if applicable indicating good communication skills, caring qualities and a positive attitude
• Ability to meet travel requirements of the course
• Ability to work over 24 hour/7day cycle of care

• why you want to do a midwifery degree
• what it is about Midwifery that interest you
• what you know about the profession of Midwifery or the role of the Midwife
• what you like about the course
• what transferable skills you have that will help you manage the theory on the course and/or will help you manage the clinical practice part of the course
• what you have done to help you in your application
• that you have an understanding of childbearing in a wider context

Shortlisted applicants
• If called for the Selection Day applicants undertake a numeracy test, literacy test and Interview
• Midwives from one of the 3 Trusts and our 3rd year Student Ambassadors are involved with Midwifery Lecturers in the selection process
• Applicants must pass each element of selection process – no second attempt offered
• Following Interview any offer of a place is subject to successful Occupational Health clearance and a satisfactory CRB check
