Midweekly 05.22.2013 THIS Sunday, May 26 | 1:30 – 7 p.m. | FREE! Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center This will be our 11th year at this location and if you’ve never been before ... come this year and you’ll see why this is such a great spot for a few hundred of us to get together! There’s a swimming park, giant slide into the lake, a zip line, horse back riding, canoes, pontoon boat rides, and Alpine Mountain. And of course, you’ll get to eat delicious free hamburgers and hotdogs. This is a great evangelistic opportunity, so bring your unchurched friends, family, coworkers and neighbors. As always, the event is free; we just ask that each family bring a dessert to share! ( Margi Hawkins, 664.6050, [email protected] Encourage a High School Senior Today is the last day to encourage the high school seniors as they graduate from high school. We are collecting note cards to present to the graduating seniors on Senior Recognition Day, THIS Sunday, May 26. These note cards offer a way to share memories, appreciation, encouragement, a favorite Bible scripture, or a promise to pray for them. In the Foyer, you will find mailboxes for the graduating seniors along with blank note cards. Please take the time to write a note of encouragement to a senior. Chaplains of the U.S. Military are giving away BibleSticks to our servicemen and servicewomen overseas so they have opportunity to hear God’s Word. A contribution of $5,000 is in hand for our church toward the BibleStick gifts, and we want to match it to get God’s Word to as many of our military as is possible. We will be collecting donations beginning Sunday, May 26, and ending Sunday, June 2. Please stop by the Mountain Movers table on THIS Sunday or next Sunday, June 2, for more details or to make your donation (or simply make your contribution with a MEMO line “BIBLESTICK” to First Baptist Nashville). faithcomesbyhearing.com/bible-stick FIRSTBAPTISTNASHVILLE.ORG/MIDWEEKLY OPPORTUNITIES WEDNESDAY, MAY 22 4 p.m. Media Library open S.A.M. We will have a summer sign-up table for VBS, VBS Plus, Music Arts Camp, Parents Day Out, and Thrilling Thursdays! VBS t-shirts will be on sale for $5. It’s the perfect ministry to do as a family or with a few friends, as 3 adults (or 2 adults and a very responsible youth) are all that are needed to run the Christ Closet. If you have a larger group—a Sunday School class or small group, for example—we always have donations that need sorting, and volunteering together is a great bonding activity, not to mention a tremendous help to this ministry. Younger volunteers can provide ice water and snacks to guests and serve in many ways. The Jordan-Lake family will gladly give you a 10-minute overview of how to run the Christ Closet at a time convenient to you, even if it’s right after church! In addition, we have a one-page information sheet that should answer most all of your questions: one person lets guests in through the door leading from the covered driveway and escorts them to the Christ Closet. The other volunteers assist the guests, and as time permits can also size and hang donated clothing on the racks. ( Joy Jordan-Lake, [email protected]

Service of Word and TableSunday Mornings | 8:15 a.m. | Chapel

You are invited to participate in a worship service focusing on the Words of Scripture and the Lord’s Supper. Join us in the Chapel at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

There are special prayer times, Scripture readings from the Old and New Testaments, a message, all in a reflective and contemplative atmosphere. Led by our Senior Pastor and other lay volunteers from the congregation, you’ll find this to be a spiritual growth opportunity.

Canadian mission TripJuly 15 – 20

First Baptist Nashville is gearing up for their annual Canadian mission trip! We will visit the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary (CSBS) for work around the campus. The CSBS work week is scheduled for July 15 – 20 although some may want to go a couple days early. This mission trip is to provide maintenance work. CSBS has things anyone can do, including work in the Bookstore, Office, and Library. They will find something for anyone! Everyone on the trip stays in the Student Housing free of charge.

If you want to find out more about this adventure, call Joe Carter, 351.8116.

mission Trip to HaitiWe are excited to continue our partnership with our Haitian friends. This summer we are thrilled to take two teams to Haiti in July. Not only will our Senior Foreign Mission Trip again be to Haiti on July 17 – 23, but a second group will be traveling the week before, July 11 – 17. Ministry in Haiti will consist of working with the Children of Hope orphanage and construction projects. This work will serve to continue our relationship building efforts in conjunction with the works of The Joseph School. For more information, visit thejosephschool.org.

Creative HandsFirst Thursday of each month 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Room 460

We hold monthly meetings for women of all ages to create handcrafted items that will spread God’s redeeming message throughout the world. We’ll make evangelism dolls for local and world missions and create yarn-covered crosses. All skill levels are invited to come for an hour, or the entire time.

may Collection: The Rescue mission

Every month, we send the mission $1000 or so from your budget gifts. They perform a huge service on our behalf to the homeless community.

Ministry to the poor is one of our commands in Scripture and the mission assists us in performing this imperative. In addition to our monthly gifts, we collect some needed items for the men and women who stay there once a year.

Here are some suggestions:

•commercial size canned goods (corn, beans, pasta), •small toiletries like toothbrushes

and toothpaste•shampoo•deodorant

We are blessed with one of the premier missions in the country. Pray for them. Assist them as you can.

Widow’s LuncheonSunday, June 9 | Room 150 | $5

Join us for a widow’s luncheon and invite a widowed friend. A light lunch will be served for $5! The luncheon will be very similar to the one in January. It’s not formal, just is simply a time to get to know others who have shared experiences. Come experience community with us. We’d love to see you!
