Alison DeChambeau UWRT 1101-073 Midterm Reflective Essay Dear Robert, Throughout the first half of this semester, I’ve written a variety of writing assignments. The writing assignments that were included was a literacy narrative, genre analysis, found genre, and creating an altered book literacy narrative. While reading this reflective essay, you will learn about the frustrations I’ve had but also the successes. Some assignments were easier to get started while others had several works of writing within the assignment. Each assignment had its own difficulties but none of them were impossible to complete. The first major writing assignment the class had to complete was the literacy narrative. The literacy narrative assignment included a reflection letter, invention work, drafts, peer review, and the final version. For me, I believe this assignment had the most work to complete and it also seemed to be the most difficult as well. For the invention work, I free wrote and looped. The only thing that struggled for me with this work was the fact that my hand started to cramp after 20 seconds of writing. However, I was able to take a few sentences from my invention work and include it in the final version. Writing the drafts were difficult for me because when writing a paper I usually just start writing the final and then change a few mistakes if needed. I typically don't like the full out writing process. I did enjoy the peer reviews because I was able to get someone else’s point of view with my drafts. The second writing assignment was the altered book literacy narrative. Creating this assignment was lots of fun for me. I love anything having to do with art or creativity so completing this assignment was relatively easy. I didn’t mind writing a contrast/comparison

Midterm Reflective Essay

Dear Robert,

Throughout the first half of this semester, I’ve written a variety of writing assignments.

The writing assignments that were included was a literacy narrative, genre analysis, found genre,

and creating an altered book literacy narrative. While reading this reflective essay, you will learn

about the frustrations I’ve had but also the successes. Some assignments were easier to get

started while others had several works of writing within the assignment. Each assignment had its

own difficulties but none of them were impossible to complete.

The first major writing assignment the class had to complete was the literacy narrative.

The literacy narrative assignment included a reflection letter, invention work, drafts, peer review,

and the final version. For me, I believe this assignment had the most work to complete and it also

seemed to be the most difficult as well. For the invention work, I free wrote and looped. The only

thing that struggled for me with this work was the fact that my hand started to cramp after 20

seconds of writing. However, I was able to take a few sentences from my invention work and

include it in the final version. Writing the drafts were difficult for me because when writing a

paper I usually just start writing the final and then change a few mistakes if needed. I typically

don't like the full out writing process. I did enjoy the peer reviews because I was able to get

someone else’s point of view with my drafts.

The second writing assignment was the altered book literacy narrative. Creating this

assignment was lots of fun for me. I love anything having to do with art or creativity so

completing this assignment was relatively easy. I didn’t mind writing a contrast/comparison

reflection for this assignment because it was short and sweet. After completing the altered book

literacy narrative, I knew that I was quit literate with that kind of writing assignment.

The third writing assignment was the genre analysis. This assignment was kind of boring

to me but that is just my personal opinion. The writing and research we had to do was very short

but I didn’t find anything that interesting out of this assignment. Finally, the last writing

assignment was a found genre. For the found genre, I decided to create a resume for when I

apply for a job as a certified nursing assistant (CNA). I believe this assignment was the most

affective for me in the long run because it helped me learn about how to create the perfect

resume. Having an outstanding and strong resume could help me with having a job in the future.

Overall I haven't seen that much improvement from the first writing assignment to the

last one. I can tell that my writing strengths are with writing alternative writing assignments

rather than the typical 5 page research essay assignments. However, I do hope to see

improvements when I compare these assignments to writing assignments I have written near the

end of this semester. I also hope to become more comfortable with the writing process. I’m

excited to see my improvement of writing throughout the rest of the semester.

Sincerely,

Alison DeChambeau
