What does the American Dream mean to you? Have you seen the American Dream come true in your own life or the life of those you know? Or is the American Dream in crisis? Is the American Dream relevant to the community of Midlothian and its residents? If so, how? This program series will explore all these questions and more.

Keynote Speaker: The History and Present of the American Dream Thursday, November 8th, 7-9 pmProfessor Joshua Fulton of Moraine Valley Community College will give a presentation on the concept of the American Dream throughout our nation’s history and viewpoints on the American Dream in our society today. Q & A and discussion will follow. Please register.

Human Library Saturday, November 10th, 1-4 pmVolunteers from the community will be human “books,” telling their personal stories related to the American Dream. Come “check them out” by meeting with them in small groups to hear them talk and respectfully ask them questions. The afternoon will begin with an orientation session, include meeting time with 3 “books”, and conclude with a follow-up discussion. Multicultural Dinner, Storytime, and Conversation Café Saturday, November 17th: 6-7 pm Dinner 7-8:30 pm Storytime and Conversation Café First, we will gather to share a meal of multicultural foods from restaurants in and around Midlothian. Then children will join Youth Services staff for a special multicultural storytime with crafts, while adults gather for small-group dialogue using the Conversation Café method. Questions discussed will include: What does the American Dream mean to you? Is the American Dream alive and well or in crisis? What’s your dream for America in the future?
