PrefiltrationBiological solutions often contain heavy loadsof particles and other contaminants which prematurely plug 0.2 µm rated and smaller sizemembrane filters. The use of Sartorius prefiltersprotects downstream Sterilizing Grade Filterseffectively and enhances significantly theirtotal throughput performance.

Sartoclean CA membrane prefilters are used for bioburden reduction in front of final mem-brane filters assuring highest product yields bylowest unspecific adsorption due the celluloseacetate membrane material. In combinationwith glass fibre fleeces Sartoclean GF prefiltersadd adsorptive power to enhance the clarifica-tion effect.

Sartopure PP 2 polypropylene depth filters arethe ideal choice for removal of hard, nondeformable particles upstream of final mem-brane filters to enhance their total throughputperformance. Featuring highly adsorptive glassfibre fleeces Sartopure GF Plus filters are theideal choice for removal of contaminants likecolloids, lipids and protein aggregates (HostCell Protein). They are used for protection ofmembrane filters, chromatography columns,crossflow systems and other downstream processing equipment to assure efficient purification steps with highest product yields.

Integrity Testing |Filter ManagementSystemsIntegrity TestingFilter integrity testing is more than using“stand-alone-units,” only. The market constantly calls for increasingly enhanced and faster technology in order to meet thecustomers ’ demands. These demands are thedriving force for our research and develop-ment as well as for our system engineers to develop innovative solutions. There are no limits in terms of technical feasibility.

Sartorius can offer a broad range of filterintegrity test solutions – beginning with our Sartocheck Junior series, Sartocheck 4 and the latest version Sartocheck 4 MultiUnit, our integrated built-in concept “integritywithin ”, WIT-Trolley and finally customizedfilter management systems.

Filter Management SystemThis is a new approach that not only focuseson filter integrity testing, but comprises allstages of the filter handling. The revolutionaryconcept makes the filter handling proceduresindependent of the point-of-use of the filter.After filtration has been completed, the filterhousing has to be taken from the filtrationline and brought to the filter managementsystem. The filtration line can be cleaned and sanitized before a new filter housing,which is sterile and integrity tested, can be reconnected.

Sartocheck 4Sartocheck 4 enables you to step into theworld of electronic records and electronic signatures. The system is designed to meet therequirements in GAMP guidelines in order tocomply with 21CFR Part 11. The reason for thecompliance with regard to data management,user handling and audit trails is to ensure100% tracebility. Furthermore, Sartocheck 4 is able to communicate via a standard networkconnection with an FTP server. This feature,which was requested by the industry, enablesthe data to be easily archived on a general fileserver.

Sartocheck 4 MulitUnitThe Sartocheck 4 MultiUnit has been developed to enable parallel integrity testingof multiple filters in the biopharmaceuticalindustry. The MultiUnit is an identical copyof the Sartocheck 4,without the user interfaceand the data management system. Each MultiUnit connected to a Sartocheck 4 is operated and controlled by this Sartocheck 4via a RS485 connection. Up to 4 MultiUnitscan be connected to one Sartocheck 4 allow-ing to integrity test up to 5 different filter systems in parallel including the testing capabilities of the Sartocheck 4 itself. Testingup to 5 filters in parallel allows to reduce thetime required for filter integrity testing in bio-pharmaceutical production significantlyand increases the efficiency of your production process.

WIThin ConceptThe WIThin concept allows the user tointegrity test the filter inside the machinewithout connecting an external integritytester, e.g.Sartocheck 4. This concept utilizesthe existing hardware and software platformsin order to integrity test the filter system. The control functions,as well as the mathematical algorithms, are directly integrated into the PC or PLC software.
