Dual Language Immersion in Red Clay

● Dual Language Immersion launched in district in 2011.

● Two-Way program model with balance of native English-speakers and native Spanish-speakers.

● Cohort 1 students transitioned to Skyline Middle School in fall 2018 and will graduate middle school this year.

● Skyline has 2 Spanish immersion teachers for 6th to 8th grade classes.

● Based on the students’ immersion Spanish proficiency assessment in December of 8th grade, High School Immersion Continuation students may receive up to four high school World Language credits. 9

Red Clay Dual Language Immersion Continuation; High School

Red Clay High School Immersion Experience: Primary Location - A.I. High SchoolA.I. High School will be the primary pathway for Red Clay immersion students. Students attending A.I. High School will be scheduled as a cohort into A.P. Spanish Language and Culture in 9th grade.

Skyline MS: Spanish Immersion Experience

❖ Students in grades 6-8 deepen their Spanish skills and cultural competencies through an advanced-level immersion Spanish literacy course and learn Social Studies in Spanish every day.

❖ Students participate in literature discussion circles during 7th-grade while reading original novels by Hispanic authors. They research and study Hispanic culture and engage in a variety of relevant projects.

❖ In 8th grade,students in the immersion program participate in a virtual cultural exchange with another middle school in a Latin American country and have the opportunity to collaborate on several curriculum-based projects.
