ABOUT MIDCMaharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is a project of the Government of Maharashta. It provides businesses with infrastructure such as land (open plot or built-up spaces), roads, water supply, drainage facilities and street lights.

• After the formation of Maharashtra State on May 1st 1960, the Government of Maharashtra constituted a "Board of Industrial Development" (BID) October 1st 1960, under the Chairmanship of Shri. S. G. Barve, I.C.S.

• As per the Borkar Committee's recommendations, development of Ulhas Valley Water Supply was entrusted to the Board of Industrial Development (BID).

• Water Supply was entrusted to the Board of Industrial Development (BID). The BID framed the legislation and it was introduced before the state legislation and passed in the form of "Maharashtra Industrial Act" which gave birth to MIDC, as a separate corporation on August 1st 1962.

•The most intelligent step taken by MIDC was policy decision of setting up "independent filtered, potable water supply system of adequate capacity" as essential infrastructure for industrial development.

•Phenomenal urban growth in the nearby small towns and villages due to water supply to nearby domestic population from the capabilities created by MIDC of their own water supply system.

•The growth of Kalyan complex and Pimpri - Chinchwad are results of this key policy decision taken by MIDC. Till date 229 industrial areas are developed by MIDC in State of Maharashtra on 53120 hectares of land.

•IT & BT Parks, Wine Parks, Textile Parks, Food Parks and Electronic Zone etc. are developed by MIDC. Considering the International standard facilities required to attract MNC’s, 5 star industrial areas are developed by MIDC at 9 locations in the State of Maharashtra.

•Maharashtra got 74 Special Economic Zone approvals from the Government of India which is leading at No.1 position compared to other states in India.

•The planned and systematic industrial development in the State of Maharashtra has continuously placed Maharashtra at No.1 position in India for the highest productivity, economics performance, business efficiency, government efficiency, infrastructures and overall competitiveness.

• As per the World Competitiveness Report 2006 Maharashtra ranks 37, ahead of South Korea, South Africa, Philippines, Greece, Brazil, Italy, Russia & Indonesia.

• MIDC has provided water supply pipelines of 3238.60 K.M. lengths to cater the water supply demand of the industries in Maharashtra. Total roads of 2422.82 K.M. lengths are constructed by MIDC for providing good quality approach to the industries

• The development expenditure of Rs.3096.75 Crores is incurred for the various infrastructure works by MIDC. The annual revenue generated from the water supply is Rs.432.00 Crores.

•The industrial policy reforms have reduced the industrial licensing requirements, removed restrictions on investment & expansion and facilitated easy access to foreign technology as well as foreign direct investment.

The Package Scheme of Incentives,2007

Introduced in 1964 - to promote balanced industrial development in state

Eligible Micro and Small Enterprises, Medium Enterprises and Large Scale Industries from all sectors except Central Public Sector, are considered for incentives under PSI 2007.

Highlights of this scheme:• Provide cushion to new SMEs in textile, hosiery, knitwear and readymade garment sector through Interest Subsidy for acquisition of fixed capital assets.

•To reduce the burdens of various taxes/ duties on the SMEs for sustained growth by means of exemptions from electricity duty, waiver of stamp duty, royalty refund.

1.To attract large scale investment by facilitating conducive environment for industries.

2.To increase the quality of the production and efficiency of MSEMs, subsidy for

(i) capital equipment for technology up gradation(ii) quality certification(iii) cleaner production measures ETC.

•Set up Industrial Areas for planned and systematic industrial development.

•To function as a special planning authority in development of industrial areas.

•"Prosperity to all through Industrialisation" is the corporate philosophy of MIDC.

AGRICULTURE IN MAHARASHTRA• India has been divided into 15 resource

development zones • 14 - main land & one - islands of Bay of Bengal

and the Arabian sea. • Maharashtra - 9th zone known as the Western

Plateau and hills region.  3rd largest state • Major agro clusters are Pune, Nashik,

Ratnagiri, Nanded & Nagpur.• More than 60% under Drip Irrigation.

• On the basis of geographical features the state is divided into 3 natural regions 1. Konkan comprising the coastal area 2. Sahyadri hill ranges known as Western Ghats 3. The Deccan plateau• 3 distinct seasons – Southwest monsoon (kharif) - june to September, Winter season (rabi) - october to February Summer - March to May.

• Farmers practice a combination of crops instead of one. KHARIF CROP: Maize, Bajra, Jowar, Ragi

• Maize - grown in high-rainfall areas or on soils with a better capacity for retaining moisture – UP, Bihar, Rajasthan

• jowar – in medium rainfall regions – MP, • bajra - low or less dependable rainfall and on light textured soils – Rajasthan, Gujarat

• RABI CROPS: Rabi Sorghum, Wheat, Rabi Maize• Up, Bihar, Rajasthan

• Mixed Cropping:• Crops mixtures are widely grown, especially during the kharif season. Pulses and some

oilseeds are grown with maize, jowar and bajra.

MAHARASHTRA: INDUSTRIAL SCENARIO•In accordance with the central policy, Maharashtra State has also taken steps to attract more and more investments in industrial sector and has succeeded in maintaining the leading position in the country.

•As a part of this Government of Maharashtra has taken number of initiatives in designing and implementing policies with respect to SEZs, ITs and MSMEs.

MIDC’S INDUSTRIAL ASSETS•There are 229 functioning industrial areas in MIDC covering over 60000 hectares of land spread all over the State. MIDC is acquiring 50000 hectares of additional land for industries.

•MIDC Develops Industrial Parks keeping in view the Specific Feature of the Region.

•The Lands are allotted to the clients accordingly. Thus MIDC succeeds in overall Regional Development.

•MIDC is the “Special Planning Authority” in the industrial area.

•Manages and owns 12 Airports/Airstrips. Now privatising 6 Airports.

MUMBAI – PUNE KNOWLEDGE CORRIDORA unique and first of its kind initiative of the Government of Maharashtra, the Mumbai- Pune Knowledge Corridor is fast emerging as the IT hub of the country. Main features of this corridor are:

• A six lane, dual carriage expressway between the two cities.

• Optical-fibre cable link provided between the two cities.

• Six major IT parks set-up in the two cities, three each in Mumbai and Pune.

• Mumbai and Pune provide the best infrastructure in terms of housing, education, transport and electricity.
