At the Port, with the main enclave in the square, we can admire the landscaped esplanade of the disembarkation of Heroes of Cavite. This monument was erected as a tribute to all those who fought in the battles of Cavite and Santiago de Cuba. Furtheron, the first prototype submarine, designed by the local engineer Isaac Peral, a direct predecessor of the modern submarine, and the forerunner of our modern models

In front of Heroes de Cavite Square lays the superb modernist building of the Cartagena City Hall short ago restored. Walking right hand allows to contemplate the “Carlos III Wall”, also known as “Sea Wall” named after the sea that can be seen all along opposite this monument.

At the other end of the Sea Wall, getting on the

panoramic elevator, there is an excellent oportunity to get astonished by the outstanding views of the harbour and the city. A few steps further, the moorish Conception Castle, also called the “Duck’s Castle” because of the ducks living there long time ago , can be visited

jewell: the Roman Theater and the Old Cathedral. The theatre was discovered, quite by chance, in 1987, and is still being excavated. The commemorative inscriptions indicate that it was built in the late first century B.C., the period of maximum urban development in the Roman colony.
