What is Publisher 2000?
• Publisher 2000 is a Desk-Top Publishing application
• You can:Create letterheads, cards, invitations and more for your personal use

Learning About Wizards
• Click Next to advance through a Wizard’s questions
Using Zoom
• Remember F9 to Zoom in and out to Actual size
• Use the View Menu to select other Zoom factors
• Or use the Zoom factor buttons
Hiding and Showing the Wizard
• The Hide Wizard/Show Wizard button is found at the bottom left of the screen
• Use it to turn the Wizard on and off at will

Changing the Design
• Use the Wizard to change elements of your design
• Choose Reset Design if you like the change that is previewed on screen

• Be careful with filenames
• Choose other options if you want

• If you choose a publication with multiple pages Publisher will handle this for you

• When it is stored you can use the Personal Information design element to quickly add your details

• Publisher uses graphic objects
• Click and drag is a necessary technique to learn
• Objects have square handles for – identification

Create a Text Frame
Using Undo and Redo
• Use the Edit Menu
• Use the buttons
• Press Ctrl + Z on the keyboard to undo
• Press Ctrl + Y on the keyboard to redo
Text Frame Text Entry
• Wavy Red underline for spelling errors
• Object Formatting toolbar becomes available when objects are created
Table Frame Tool
• The table frame tool creates a table similar to those found in Word 97
• Choose the number of rows and columns• Choose the Table Format and let Publisher
do the rest

The Picture Frame Tool
• Click the Picture Frame tool• Drag to create the frame size
• Double click inside the frame to select the picture file

• Select the ClipArt from any of the categories listed and click Insert

• Click these buttons to create lines, rectangles, squares and ellipses
• Press Shift to create perfect lines, squares and circles

Changing the View
• Click the View Menu• Choose Two Page Spread
Zoom
• Use the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons to select an area within an object
• Use F9 to zoom up and down from Actual size on a complete object
• Use the Zoom Factor buttons at the bottom for a generalised zoom or to get back to Full Page
• Or use the View Menu, Zoom

Note: The scroll bars only allow you to move up and down on the one page
Background
• Backgrounds appear on every page of your publication
• Ctrl + M switches between background and foreground
• Or click the View Menu and choose Go to Background/Go to Foreground
• Insert any ClipArt, Picture File or Image from Scanner as a background
Picture Display
• Complicated or large pictures slow down the on-screen display
• Choose to:– Hide the picture
– Fast resize and zoom
Show Hide Characters
• As in Word you can show non-printing characters• Click the button to show characters• This symbol is a paragraph mark • These are tab marks • This shows the end of a story
Boundaries and Guides
• Use Layout Guides to help you arrange your page
• Click the Arrange Menu and choose Layout Guides
Manipulating Objects
Cut, Copy and Paste Objects
• Cut and Paste is a way of moving objects from one location to another
• Copy and Paste is a way to duplicate an object
• There are 3 ways to Cut, Copy and Paste– Use the Edit Menu
– Click the Right hand mouse button and use the Short-cut menu
– Click and Drag the object (use Ctrl at the same time to copy)
Changing Picture Frames
You can change the
frame around a
picture so that text
wraps around it like this
• Right click the mouse on an object and choose Change Frame, Change Frame Properties
Changing ClipArt
• If you’ve inserted the wrong picture don’t worry - Change It!
• Right click on the picture to see the Short-cut menu
• Go back to the ClipArt Gallery and select another
Re-sizing Objects
• Move the mouse over a handle• Wait for the different Re-size mouse cursors
• Click and drag• ClipArt and Pictures will resize in proportion• Objects can distort - hold Shift to resize in ratio
Moving Objects
• Moving objects is the same as Cut and Paste
• You can either use the Edit Menu to Cut and Paste
• Or, you can Click and Drag the object
Re-coloring Objects
• Right click on an object to choose either Change Object (whatever the name of the object is )
• You can change 3 elements– Line Style Thickness,
color & style
– Fill Colour Colors, effects,gradients, and patterns
– Shadow
The Crop Picture Tool
• Remove unwanted parts of a • picture by cropping• the parts you don’t want
• Right click a Picture or Object to see the Short-cut menu
• Choose Crop.. (either Picture or Object)• Click and drag the crop cursor over the area you
want to crop
Adjusting Outline Nodes
• You can manipulate how text wraps around objects
• Ensure the text is wrapping first
• Click Edit Menu and then Irregular Wrap
• Click and drag individual nodes to move the text out of the way
Manipulating Text
Text Flow
• To create a linked frame display the Link Toolbar click Tools, Text Frame Connecting
• Click the Link button• Pour the text into the next spare frame• Text in the overflow area shows up
like this and needs attention
Disconnecting Frames
• Use the Disconnect Text Frames button to unlink the frames and the text will flow back into the overflow area
Autofit Text
• Right click the mouse on the frame with overflow text
• Choose either Best Fit or Shrink Text on Overflow
Other Text Formatting Options
• All options found in Short-cut menu – Right click on the text frame – Click Change Text
• Drop Cap
• Align Text Vertically• Line Spacing
– includes Scaling, Tracking and Kerning
Importing Text
• Import text that is already created in other applications– Microsoft Word - versions 2.0, 6.0, 95 and 97– Microsoft Works - versions, 3.0 and 4.0– Windows 95 Word pad– Microsoft Write version 3.1 and 95– WordPerfect for DOS, or Windows 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0– Plan text format– Rich text format
• Click the Insert Menu and choose Text File• Choose between Autoflow and Manual Control

• Select either a selected area the Entire Story or All
• Start the Spell Checker by pressing F7• or click Tools, Spelling, Spell Checker• or right click the story and choose Proofing

Layering Objects
• Objects sit on top of each other in the order in which they were created
• To change the order of the layers click the object then click Arrange Menu
Aligning Objects
• Select the objects you wish to align (Shift)
• Right click the mouse on the selected objects
• Choose Align Objects and make a selection from the choices presented
Nudging Objects
• Used Nudge techniques to move objects with precision
• Select the object you wish to move
• Hold the Alt key and use the Arrow keys on the keyboard to nudge the object one pixel at a time
Flipping and Rotating Objects
• Select an object• Use the Rotate and Flip buttons to manipulate it
• Click the Custom Rotate button for other angles
Group and Ungroup Objects
• Select the objects you want to group (Shift)• Click the Group button
• When objects are grouped the button changes
• Click the Ungroup objects button to separate them
Printing Your Work
Pack & Go for a Printing Service
• Click File, Pack & Go, and then Take to a commercial printing service
Printing to an Installed Printer
• Ensure the printer is set up correctly first
• Click File, Print Setup
• Then click File, Print and choose your options
Creating a Web
Converting a Publisher Document to HTML
• Click File, Create Web Site from Current Publication
• The publication will become a new HTML document
• HTML means Hypertext Mark-up Language
Viewing the Web
• Click the Web Preview button
• Or click File, Web Site Preview
• Or press Ctrl + Shift + B on
the keyboard
• To launch Microsoft Internet Explorer and view your Web

• Click the Hot Spot tool button and drag around the outside of your hotspot
• Then define where it links to
• You can link to– a URL on the Internet– an Email address– another page in your Web– a file on your Hard Disk

Mail Merge
Creating a Mail Merge Database
• Three step process1 Create publication
2 Create database or open database
3 Merge the two together
Click Close when you have finished and save the Publisher Address List you have created
Finishing the Mail Merge
• Click Mail Merge, Open Data Source• Find the data source you have created• Click Mail Merge, Insert Field to place fields in
your publication or click Ctrl + Shift + I• Insert the fields you require in the
publication
• Click Mail Merge, Merge to complete the operation
Editing a Publisher Address List
• Click Mail Merge, Edit Publisher Address List• Open the correct file (it will have a .mdb extension)• Make the necessary changes• Close it down once again

• Cancel the original merge first• When you click to Open Data Source you can
select another file• You can use a variety of
