UST Global Inc needed a platform that could facilitate various aspects of the
software development lifecycle, improve project management, and gain
application lifecycle management (ALM) competencies and offer it to its
customer. To gain these capabilities, it standardized ALM on Microsoft Visual
Studio 2010 Ultimate and Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010. By using
their inherent capabilities, UST Global has increased productivity by around 20
percent, while also improving team collaboration and enhancing constant flow of
value. The integrated solution, streamlines all aspects of ALM for both Java and
Microsoft .NET.
Until recently, UST Global Inc had a disintegrated development environment,
consisting of technologies from Microsoft and others. A mix of stand-alone tools
was used for various aspects of application lifecycle management. Employees
used Microsoft Visual SourceSafe for source code management and Team
Foundation Server 2008 to manage software development for internal and
external projects. In addition, Apache SVN was used for all version control
requirements of projects on other technologies, and, Bugzilla was used as the
defect tracking and management tool for non-Microsoft projects.
As a Microsoft Gold Business Partner, UST Global had been making significant
use of Microsoft technologies. Intrigued by the platform that was now being
offered, it decided to build its new solution on the same. UST Global Inc
implemented Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate development system along
with the Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010.
UST Global Inc also took advantage of Microsoft’s SEED (Strategically Engage,
Enhance, and Deploy) initiative. Powered with project information and statistics,
it was able to improve organization agility and achieve better cross-functional
synchronization.

UST Global has integrated its IBM Rational products like IBM Rational
Application Developer, IBM Rational Software Architect, IBM Rational Functional
Tester, and IBM Rational Performance Tester, using Visual Studio Team Explorer
Everywhere 2010 Eclipse plug-in. This allows the team to use a single
environment for Java and .NET based solutions.
UST Global Inc is also using Microsoft Project Server 2010 to standardize project
management across multiple teams.

Virgo deployed Microsoft Lync Server 2010 to provide more robust ad hoc
collaboration and online meeting capabilities, in addition to presence awareness,
instant messaging, desktop sharing, and enterprise voice.

File Server Optimization: Hexaware Technologies are leveraging Powershell
and FSRM in Windows 2003 R2 and Windows 2008 designed a solution to ease
out burden on 150 file servers. File servers were running out of space and
Hexaware Technologies needed to find a solution so that some of the inactive
files could be deleted. With help of FSRM we scanned all file servers to find
inactive files which have not been accessed in last 3 years, send out automated
email to the owners and ask them to archive and delete those files. Users are
also given a choice to back up all the files to local directory on their machine and
subsequently delete those files.
AD self-service portal: Hexaware Technologies are developing ‘AD self-service
portal’ tool in Asp.net, JavaScript and C#.net. It’s a self-service web portal which
lets users reset their password and unlock accounts. This would result in less
calls for password reset and account unlocking to helpdesk thus translating in
considerable cost saving.
Home Folder management and cleanup: Unisys allows users to have home
folders; however there is no automated way to clean up home folders when
employees cease to work for the organization. Hexaware Technologies has
developed a solution using Powershell to automate the Home folder cleanup.
Functional Mailbox Management and Cleanup: Hexaware Technologies
developed a solution to find out those functional mailboxes which have not been
accessed in last 1 year, notified the owners of those mailboxes asking if it is
required. If the user didn’t want those mailboxes, it should be deleted. Hexaware
Technologies reclaimed lot of storage space on Exchange server with help of this
solution.
Inactive ActiveSync user cleanup: Hexaware Technologies prepared a
Powershell script which would find all the users who have not synched in last 7
days and send out automated email reminding them that activesync is not in use
and further inactivity could result in removing their ability to use ActiveSync.

Public Folder management and Cleanup: One of the biggest challenges in
terms of storage space on Exchange Server is Public folder in current
environment. Hexaware Technologies has developed a solution to find out those
public folders which have more than 500 MB size, notified the owners of public
folder and asked them to archive the data to ease out burden on exchange
server.
GPO cleanup management and cleanup: 33% of GPOs in current environment
are not in use. Hexaware Technologies developed a solution with help of
Powershell to identify such GPOs and have those cleaned up on monthly basis.
Before cleaning up GPOs the solution backs up the GPOs and stores it at central
location, so that in case Hexaware Technologies need to back out, they can use
the backed up GPOs for restoration.
Local Admin Password Management: As security audit compliance, Hexaware
Technologies were asked to change the local admin password every 45 days.
Changing it manually and keeping passwords in synch on 30,000 workstations
was a challenging task. Hexaware Technologies developed a solution using
vbscript, to change to password on all the workstations every 45 days ensure
that any given point of time the password is same across all the workstations.
The solution is deployed through GPO startup script and SCCM.
Managed by field for AD objects: Currently, Hexaware Technologies is
developing a solution so that can automate transfer of objects in AD. The
managed by fields for Groups, Computers are populated with the owner of these
objects, however when the employees are terminated. Hexaware Technologies
transfer the object to manager of the employees and give an option to manager
to transfer those objects to another person in his/her team without any help
desk intervention.
DNS decommissioning: When a DNS server is decommissioned, Hexaware
Technologies make sure that all the workstations, servers pointing to that DNS
server are identified and made to point to other DNS server. Hexaware
Technologies developed an automated solution with help of Powershell, it scans
the DNS debug log and generates a report of all the workstations, servers
sending DNS query and have those servers point to alternate DNS servers.
DHCP Backup Process: Hexaware Technologies has implemented automated
centralized DHCP backup. The solution was developed in Powershell, which
backs up DHCP database daily to a central location. Developed best practices for
Delegating Active Directory Administration in current environment.

Private Cloud computing: Hexaware Technologies has designed and developed
internal private cloud of the company using Hyper-v, windows 2008 R2 and
SCVMM 2008 R2. It included, provisioning of VMs with help of templates and
using resource libraries.

Aditi chose to build its solution using Microsoft virtualization and cloud
technologies and gracefully transitioned to a Hyper-V private cloud solution. The
move ensures a 40 percent reduction in costs while consolidating physical
servers by 60 percent. Additionally, the implementation of Microsoft Lync Server
2010, SharePoint Server 2010, Exchange Server 2010, and SQL Server 2008 R2
meant better collaboration and communication between Aditi employees.
The messaging environment based on Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, was
swiftly receding. In addition, the intranet based on Microsoft SharePoint Server
2007, was overdue for a makeover.
After evaluating multiple options, Aditi concluded upon adopting Microsoft’s
virtualization technology – Hyper-V.
Windows Server 2008 R2 was rolled out across the organization so it could
support the Hyper-V platform. Hyper-V served as a server virtualization
technology to optimize server hardware investments by consolidating multiple
server roles as separate virtual machines running on a single physical machine.
Today, Aditi has six physical servers, running 60 servers and scalable to host 20
additional servers. These are hosted using Hyper-V cluster, SQL cluster,
Exchange Database Availability Group (DAG), and Windows Network Load
Balancing (NLB).
Aditi also deployed its messaging, communications, database, and collaboration
environment on the virtualized platform. The design and implementation of the
core infrastructure was built around Microsoft’s Virtualization technology.
Valuable opinions from top Microsoft experts were considered before deciding
upon adopting Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Microsoft Lync Server 2010,
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 to support
the organization.

Exchange Server 2010 along with Lync Server 2010, and SQL Server 2008 R2,
offered the performance and reliability needed to make communications widely
available. These also addressed the demands for simplified administration,
security, and greater mobility.
Aditi strengthened its collaboration infrastructure with the deployment of
SharePoint Server 2010. The 3-tier architecture comprises SharePoint 2010
farm with a high available application server, backed by SQL 2008 R2 cluster for
high availability. This involved migration of 20+ primary sites to a new
framework and governance.
Aditi deployed the complete solution on a NetApp storage area network, NetApp
SAN, to achieve a unified communications, messaging, and collaboration
environment. NetApp SAN provided efficient storage without sacrificing
performance or availability. Multiple POCs to understand Hyper-V, Exchange
Server 2010, network load balancing, and Database Availability Group on
Exchange Server 2010 were carried out. Following which, a staging environment
to host the infrastructure was setup before taking the solution live.

Wipro wanted to deploy the latest unified communications capabilities to
increase employee productivity and enhance customer relationships.
Wipro upgraded to Microsoft Lync Server 2010 to take advantage of enterprise
voice and other capabilities that help improve communication and increase
employee productivity.
Recently, Wipro upgraded to Microsoft Lync Server 2010 to provide enhanced
communications capabilities to employees to help them enhance their
collaboration experience.
Wipro has invested heavily in Microsoft solutions to provide communications
and collaboration capabilities that enable employees to work as virtual teams
regardless of location. For messaging, Wipro uses Microsoft Exchange Server
2010. It also recently upgraded its collaboration solution to Microsoft SharePoint
Server 2010 for enhancing content management and improving workflows. To
take advantage of features such as co-authoring in Microsoft Word and archiving
in the Microsoft Outlook messaging and collaboration client, Wipro also
upgraded to Microsoft Office 2010.
The most effective tools for enhancing communications at Wipro are instant
messaging and presence. Wipro first deployed Microsoft Office Live
Communications Server to provide these capabilities.

It decided to deploy a pilot of Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2
in order to experience a true unified communications platform that included
conferencing and desktop sharing capabilities in addition to the instant
messaging and presence features that were already available. It deployed the
pilot for about 5,000 employees.
Wipro also deployed voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities through Office
Communications Server 2007 R2 for about 3,000 employees. These services
were primarily for executives and sales people so that they could call each other
from their computers by using the Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 client.
Additionally, it implemented Exchange Unified Messaging so that people could
receive consolidated voice mail and email through Microsoft Outlook.
Although the Office Communications Server 2007 pilot was successful, Wipro
decided to deploy Microsoft Lync Server 2010 instead. Lync Server 2010
provides enhanced versions of the communications capabilities provided by
Office Communications Server 2007—presence, instant messaging, robust
conferencing, and enterprise voice—as well as improvements in topology,
deployment, and management tools.
Wipro deployed Lync Server 2010 to all of its 135,000 employees in phases. The
first phase involved running front-end, mediation, monitoring, and edge server
roles in a virtualized environment. By running Lync Server in a virtualized
environment, Wipro was able to deploy more than 20 server roles on two
physical servers.
For approximately 3,000 senior managers and sales people, Wipro also deployed
voice and videoconferencing capabilities. Employees were then able to make
peer-to-peer voice calls through the Microsoft Lync 2010 client on the desktop
using headsets. Employees also used the high-definition Microsoft LifeCam
Cinema or Logitech video cameras optimized for Lync-based videoconferences.
Many employees enabled Microsoft Lync Mobile to work through their mobile
phones.
In the United States, Wipro integrated the Lync Server with Cisco Call Manager
and connected it to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) so that
employees could make outbound calls through Lync 2010. At smaller offices
throughout the United States and Europe, Wipro installed Survivable Branch
Appliances (SBAs), which are based on cost-effective media gateways hosting
the Microsoft SBA software package. The SBA software provided a PSTN

connection that offered communications capabilities in the event of any wide-
area network failure.
Through the Lync 2010 client, employees now have a single interface where they
can view presence, send instant messages, place calls, or set up ad-hoc
collaboration sessions and online meetings. Employees also use desktop sharing
and whiteboards to collaborate on projects in real time. Wipro was particularly
interested in the interoperation between Lync Server 2010 and SharePoint
Server 2010 so that employees could take advantage of enhanced social
networking features like Skill Search, which people can use to quickly find
subject matter experts in other departments or regions. Because Wipro
configured its system with many of its major customers who have also deployed
Lync Server 2010, employees can easily interact with customers on a daily basis.
With Lync Server, Wipro’s IT team planned to take advantage of features such as
the web-based management console to manage the communications solution
across the organization. By using the Windows PowerShell command-line
interface, the IT team automated repetitive tasks and added or edited settings
for groups of users. Wipro also used the Lync Monitoring server role along with
Microsoft System Center Operations Manager for auditing and reporting. The
Monitoring server collected Call Detail Reports (CDRs); usage information
related to VoIP calls; IM messages, audio and video conversations, meetings,
application sharing, and file transfers; numerical data describing the media
quality on the network and endpoints; and call error and troubleshooting
information for failed calls. It also installed the Lync Management Pack for
System Center Operations Manager for more detailed reporting in its Lync
environment.
Wipro also took advantage of the interoperation between SharePoint Server
2010 and Lync Server 2010 to increase social networking capabilities to drive
business.

The decision to deploy Microsoft products was based on a number of criteria.
Most importantly Microsoft Outlook was already in use at KPIT Cummins. This is
easily and tightly integrated with the above solutions with a familiar interface
and is also the perfect platform for a unified communications package.
Office Communications Server 2007 R2 supports both computer based and
device based users. The features available to individual users depend on which
server roles are deployed, how the administrator configures user accounts, and
which client or operating system is running on the user’s computer.
KPIT Cummins deployed OCS 2007 in 2008. The implementation took only 45
days and was smooth and easy to adopt. Of KPIT Cummins’ 6000 employees, at
present about 2,500 are on OCS. The solution is highly scalable and user friendly.
The software gives users a single interface that brings together telephony,
instant messaging, conferencing, and presence capabilities on their computers.
With OCS, employees can check on the presence status of colleagues, and hold
instant messaging conversations with those individuals. Instant email
notification as well as voice communication enables employees or partners to
plan discussions in advance.
KPIT Cummins also deployed Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, to take
advantage of unified messaging. Exchange Server 2007 enables a unified

messaging system in which voice mail, along with e-mail messages appear in
employees’ inboxes.
After addressing its presence and instant messaging issues, KPIT addressed its
conferencing needs by rolling out Microsoft Office Live Meeting. The Microsoft
Office Live Meeting client is the data collaboration and audio/video client for
both Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and the hosted Microsoft Live
Meeting service. It enables users to participate in meetings face to face in a
virtual meeting room.
Office Communications Server brings video conferencing capabilities to all KPIT
employees. To encourage the same, company has provided laptops with built in
cameras and speakers. This capability is a major advancement as the video
quality is now good enough to replace in-person meetings, thus reducing travel
demand and making it more cost effective.
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat module, was also
implemented by KPIT. This enables real-time communication using group chat
sessions, with persistent content that is retained after sessions end. Thus if a
meeting is scheduled for 9.30 am a late entrant can catch up on whatever he has
missed as all discussions are continually posted including relevant links and
texts.
Another capability that KPIT Cummins has also implemented is the Federation
feature. This feature makes it possible to communicate with customers and
partners over an IP connection in real time in an encrypted, authenticated, and
managed environment.
KPIT Cummins is planning to federate with customers using the Microsoft OCS
technology for improved voice communication, collaborative meeting and
reducing costs both for customers and KPIT Cummins without compromising
security.
OCS 2007 has become the lifeline for KPIT Cummins. It is the primary mode of
communication providing a high level of comfort with no extra cost.

CLP India signed a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement, which enabled them to
deploy the latest suite of interoperable business productivity and core
technologies. Overall, it helped to increase productivity, enhance efficiency, and
improve IT management.
CLP India signed the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement, which includes software
such as Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Microsoft
SharePoint Server 2007, and the System Center products.
CLP India was also facing infrastructure challenges. The latest software was not
always available. Licenses of higher versions were not utilized, as the standard
operating environment (SOE) did not permit it. For example, CLP India did not
upgrade from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008.
One of the key deployments at CLP India was Microsoft Lync Server 2010. Lync
allows employees to establish presence status, initiate instant messaging (IM)
conversations, and web and audio conferences. The solution’s capabilities
improve communications and collaboration among users. CLP deployed Lync
across the organization for around 400 users.
In addition, CLP India upgraded its messaging environment from Microsoft
Exchange Server 2003 to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 email messaging and
collaboration software, and the Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system.
In June 2012, CLP India upgraded to Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, which
offers the latest functionality and proves to be a more stable and simple to
manage mailing solution.
CLP India also runs Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for data management, and
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007. The collaboration features in Microsoft
SharePoint Server 2007 make it easier for employees to find and share
documents and build an India-specific intranet. Employees share resources,
access critical information, and make collaborative decisions on the intranet.
Practically, Windows 7 has dramatically increased Microsoft Excel efficiency and
the financial models that CPL India churns out are less bulky in size and compute

faster. With Office 2010, creating these reports is very easy, and saves us more
than 50 hours in a month for one laptop.
Hyper-V technology was implemented primarily for CLP India’s test
environment.
CLP India also installed Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
2007, which is used to manage PCs, deploy software, and assist in asset
management.
CLP India deployed System Center Data Protection Manager (SCDPM) 2012 to
back up data. Going with SCDPM not only saved on hardware but the
performance also improved significantly.
Currently, CLP India are using Symantec Vault for email archiving, but with the
availability of licenses under Enterprise Agreement, CLP India have initiated
deployment of the Microsoft Email Archive solution in order to have the same
look and feel like active email, improved performance and of course better ROI.
The initiative would be completed by August 2013.
After upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7, CLP India now has an IT
environment that meets its security standards. Primarily, it has fewer problems
with compatibility when critical patches are released. Also, as part of this
Windows upgrade process; CLP India standardized some of the other software in
its IT environment, including Symantec Endpoint Protection, Acrobat PDF
viewer, and PDF writer.
By using System Center Configuration Manager as an asset management
solution, CLP India was able to quickly conduct an asset inventory and identify
all software installed on each device. Now CLP India knows what software is
installed and where, at all times.

When it comes to voice communications, Persistent was using standalone
Private Branch Exchange (PBX) infrastructure. WebEx was used for all
presentations (clients, as well as internal). As Persistent Systems Ltd expanded
over the years, it experienced growing insufficiency with its communications
infrastructure.
After investigating available communications products, Persistent decided to
implement Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2, a unified
communications solution that gives enterprises integrated instant messaging,
presence, and VoIP capabilities along with audio and video conferencing
functionality.
Persistent is extensively using the presence and instant messaging capabilities of
the new solution. Presence features help to determine a colleague’s availability
and to choose the best method to communicate instantly with that person,
whether through a voice call, an email message, or an instant message.
Office Communicator 2007 R2 also includes desktop sharing. With this feature,
users are able to share their entire computer desktop with a colleague in another
office. In addition, Office Communications Server 2007 R2 includes API’s that
have made it possible for developers to integrate OCS 2007 R2 collaboration
features into existing MIS applications. For example, in the employee portal, the
search feature fetches all the employee details along with the presence status of

The upgrade to OCS 2007 R2 was completed in December 2010, and the solution
was rolled out to 6,000 employees. Since then Persistent has been implementing
new capabilities of Office Communications Server 2007 R2 based on
requirements. Most importantly, Persistent Systems Ltd has been able to
collaborate with client OCS networks also.
Figuring out whether an employee is on leave and for how many days was a big
challenge in the organization of this size. However, OCS 2007 R2 and Exchange
Server 2007 integration has made it very easy; not only the Out of Office
information but also the Free-Busy schedule now appears right there in OCS
Communicator. Windows® Active Directory® integration with Human
Resources database has further helped in bringing the employee designation,
location, contact information and department into the OCS Communicator.
In addition, SharePoint 2010 and OCS integration is effectively enabling
employees to initiate immediate chat with the author of an artifact from the
portal itself. Also, as the presence information is now available right there in
Outlook, employees can initiate chat more effectively by a single click, while
