Milk present in the market is pasteurized milk and normally it is free from any undesirable microbes, but sometimes market milk got contaminated by microbes. This is due to faulty pasteurization, storage or transportation.

Market milk (pasteurized)

Thermoduric

Spores formingGram negative psychrotrophic

Microbial load in market milk depend on microbial population of raw milk before pasteurization or processing.

NEWS1. ISOLATION OF BACTERIA FROM MARKET MILK OF ASSAM. The milk available in market of Assam (Kamrup, Barpeta, Sonitpur) contain a microbes.

80 pool samples milk is checks for presences of microbes

C. krusei (77.50 %)C. albicans (13.75 %), C. tropicalis (6.25 %) C. glabrata (2.50 %).

2. ISOLATION OF CANDIDA SPECIES FROM MARKET MILK SAMPLES

E. Coli O157:H7 70 (87.5%)

Clostridium perfringens 27 (33.75%)

Staphylococcus aureus 6 (7.5%)Others ( Bacillus cerus, Salmonella, Campylobacter, and Brucella)

3. An Outbreak of Gastroenteritis and Fever Due to Listeria monocytogenes in Milk

There was an outbreak of gastroenteritis and fever among the people who ate at a picnic at a Holstein cow show in Elizabeth, Illinois, on July 9, 1994.

Complaints about the taste and quality of commercial pasteurized chocolate milk consumed at the picnic led to the culture of Listeria monocytogenes from samples of leftover milk.

L. monocytogenes has presented with fever and gastroenteritis without progression to invasive illness.

ResearchMICROBIAL ANALYSIS AND QUALITY CONTROL OF MILK

Some methods are adopted for the testing of milk quality and presences of different microbes, like:

1. Milk samples for chemical tests2. Standard plate count (SPC)3. Direct microscopy4. Test for Salmonella and Shigella5. Test for Fecal E.coli6. Test for total viable count7. Test for Fungi8. Determination of Coliforms and Bacillus species9. Determination of spore formers10. Methylene blue reductase test11. Phosphatase test
