for oral solution in the US market. The product is a generic version ofLundbeck's Sabril powder for oral solution, Dr Reddy's said in a filing tothe BSE. The company has launched Vigabatrin powder for oral solu-tion, USP in 500 mg per packet after getting approval by the UnitedStates Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), it said. According toIMS Health data, Sabril brand and generic had US sales of around USD274 million (about Rs 1,900 crore) MAT for the most recent twelvemonths ending in June 2019, Dr Reddy's said. Sabril is indicated asadjunctive therapy for adults and pediatric patients of 10 years of ageand older with refractory complex partial seizures who have inade-quately responded to several alternative treatments and for whom thepotential benefits outweigh the risk of vision loss.

Ministry Has Directed States To CreateIntelligence Cells

With an aim to check illegal practices of manufacturing spuriousdrugs, the Health Ministry has directed states to create intelli-gence cells to expose and bust such rackets. These intelligencecells will work in coordination with the officers of state drugdepartments and the Central Drug Control StandardOrganisation (CDCSO) to unearth the illegal activities of spuri-ous drugs and their manufacturing units. The intelligence cellswill also look for any contravention of the Drug and Cosmetic Act.The health ministry has sought all state drug controllers to strict-ly monitor the implementation of the intelligence cells under theAct. These directions were given at the third Annual RegulatorsConclave for Central and State Regulatory Authorities recentlyheld in Goa. "Already some states like Maharashtra, AndhraPradesh, Goa and Delhi have their respective intelligence cellsand they are doing good. The intelligence cells will create moresurveillance. This will also help in sampling to ensure qualityissues of drugs and pharmaceuticals. Also, it will help the depart-ment by infrastructure and manpower," a senior drug controllertold ANI on condition of anonymity. "The intelligence cells willconduct surprise raids and inspections. They will keep a strictvigil on habitual offenders. They will also make out a plannedstrategy with focused modus operandi. The intelligence cells willgenerate a database to capture historical background and inci-dences," the official said. Informing about one such racket ofspurious drugs which was unearthed by the Delhi Drugs ControlDepartment, the official said, "In Delhi, huge stocks of ointmentsof leading brands namely Betnovate-C, Betnovate-N andPanderm ++ were recently recovered from Bawana area. Theestimated cost ofrecovered goodsis stated to beapproximately Rs1.4 crore." Whencontacted, AtulNasa, who isHead ofOffice/Controllingand LicensingAuthority in Delhisaid, "It was achallenging tasktaken by the offi-cers of drug con-trol department byexposing theracket of manu-facturing of spurious and counterfeit medicines of multinationalbrands." "Our drug inspectors had also collected the samples ofall three drugs from the spot for analysis to ascertain the qualityof drugs and to verify their genuineness. Nucala Is The First Biologic Approved In The US For Six To 11-year-Old Children With Severe Eosinophilic Asthma
