Michael began swimming at the age of 7. He played baseball and American football since 12. Michael met his coach Bob Bowman while he was training in a swimming club in Northern Baltimore. Bob Bowman immediately noticed Michael’s abilities and became his coach.

Michael Phelps became the youngest participant of Olympic Games in the history of American swimming. He was only 15. He was a member of the U.S. team at the Olympic Games in Sydney(2000 year). He got the fifth place there. Phelps set a world record in 2001 in the 200-meter butterfly. Phelps became famous after the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, where he earned eight medals (6 of them were gold).

He won the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. He got 8 gold medals. Phelps became the most famous among all athletes in all sports. He broke the record of Mark Spitz for the number of gold medals won at the Olympic Games. He spends his free time with his friends and his bulldog Herman.
