8:00-9:00 a.m. OCULAR ONCOLOGY 2017: ADVANCED MANAGEMENT AND IMPROVED OUTCOMES FOR OUR PATIENTS Timothy G. Murray, MD, MBA

This course will present a clinical update on advanced management of intraocular malignancy with a focus on pediatric retinoblastoma and adult melanoma.

9:00-10:00 a.m. EVALUATION STRATEGIES FOR DRY EYE DISEASE • Martha C. Tello, COMT, OSCThis course is aimed at ophthalmic professionals working in all areas of ophthalmology to become more involved and awaken curiosity of dry eye disease. The importance of obtaining a relevant medical history, understanding use of OSDI-Dry eye Ocular Surface Disease Index, explaining best practices, and technology uses to identify ocular surface inflammation, and dry eye disease will be discussed.

10:15-11:15 a.m. EFFICIENT EMR SCRIBING • Stephanie McMillan, MHA, COT and Martha C. Tello, COMT, OSC This course will give an overview of HIPAA compliance and the CMS ruling, and what it means to your career. Learn about the role of a scribe, how to scribe, how to prevent and correct errors, key electronic health record scribing processes, and tips and pearls to becoming an efficient scribe.

11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. UNDERSTANDING REFRACTIVE ERRORS • Maria Wilson, COMTThis course will identify and clarify refractive errors and their occurrence. It will review what the technician should understand and look for before submitting the refraction for prescription consideration to help reduce glasses recheck.

12:15-1:15 p.m. LUNCH

1:15-2:15 p.m. EYE BANKING: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE •John LiVecchi, MD and Jason Woody This course will advance attendee knowledge of eye banks and ocular research to improve visual outcomes and quality of life for those who are blind or visually impaired. The history and evolution of the various eye transplants created to restore vision will be presented.

2:15-3:15 p.m. OPTIMIZING THE TECHNICIAN’S EXAMINATION: PACT MODEL • Matthew Parker, PhD, LSSMBB, CTC, COMT, OSC This course places emphasis on the technicians’ skills and responsibility in the examination process. The PACT Model will be introduced. Principle objectives of the course are to recognize ways to streamline the eye examination.

3:15-4:15 p.m. LOTIONS, POTIONS, TOXINS, AND FILLERS: NONSURGICAL REJUVENATION • Wendy W. Lee, MD This course will cover the various methods for nonsurgical rejuvenation including topical treatments and skin care, botulinum toxins, and dermal fillers. Laser and light devices will also be covered.

9:00-10:00 a.m. DIABETES AND RETINOPATHY • Michael W. Stewart, MD This course will provide a broad overview of diabetes mellitus followed by a detailed discussion (epidemiology, pathophysiology, symptoms and signs, treatment) of diabetic retinopathy.

10:15-11:15 a.m. EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT OF ORBITAL CELLULITIS • Thomas E. Johnson, MD Orbital cellulitis is a condition that may be associated with vision- and life-threatening complications. Despite numerous medical advances in anti-microbial therapy, radiographic imaging, and surgical technique, the treatment of orbital cellulitis remains challenging. Successful management requires prompt diagnosis, aggressive medical therapy, and in some cases, timely surgical intervention. Through lecture and video, participants will learn to assist in managing these patients confidently.

11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. CATARACT SURGERY IN 2017 • Darby D. Miller, MD, MPH Course will discuss the latest advancements in cataract surgery including, but not limited to: laser assisted cataract surgery, intraoperative aberrometry, and an update on intraocular lenses.

12:15-1:15 p.m. LUNCH

1:15-2:15 p.m. MEDICO-LEGAL ISSUES OF THE ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD: AN OMIC PERSPECTIVE • Michelle Pineda, MBA Learn the pitfalls of the electronic medical record from a legal perspective.

2:15-3:15 p.m. REFRACTOMETRY TIPS AND TECHNIQUE • Stephanie McMillan, MHA, COT This course serves as a guide for assistants and technicians to help gain proficiency and accuracy with refractometry. Techniques and tools that can be used to assist with refractometry will be discussed.

3:15-4:15 p.m. MASTERING THE HAND-HELD EXAMINATION • Matthew Parker, PhD, LSSMBB, CTC, COMT, OSC This course is an introduction to the use of hand-held portable ophthalmic equipment and its capabilities and multi-functionality use while providing routine or situational eye care for mobility-restricted patients. Highlighted skills will include visual assessment, installation of eye drops, motility evaluation, patient counseling, intraocular pressure, biomicroscopy, and pupil evaluation.

8:00-11:00 a.m. RETINOSCOPY WORKSHOP (BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE) • Matthew Parker, PhD, LSSMBB, CTC, COMT, OSC Co-instructors: Stephanie McMillan, MHA, COT and Maria Wilson, COMT BASIC This basic workshop is designed to give the student hands-on instructions on the neutralization of retinoscopy reflexes, estimation of astigmatic refractive error, including enhancement techniques, and using the plus cylinder equipment. There are no pre-requisites for this workshop; however, a basic understanding of optics will be beneficial. There will be a brief break between workshops.

INTERMEDIATE This intermediate workshop is designed to give the student hands-on instructions on the neutralization process over spectacle lenses and advanced estimation techniques of astigmatic refractive error using the plus cylinder techniques. The second part of this workshop will present a variety of clinical examples of refractive challenges.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDSAll cancellations and requests for refunds must be received by JCAHPO in writing. A processing fee of $75 is deducted from each cancelled registration to cover a portion of the costs JCAHPO incurs. ATPO Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITSJCAHPO, AOC, OPS, and CA BRN continuing education credits have been approved for this meeting. Continuing education credits earned will be posted on your account at www.jcahpo.org approximately 4-6 weeks after the program for participants who complete evaluation forms.

NOTE: Attendance is monitored for each hour of instruction. Participants absent for more than 15 minutes of any given hour will not receive credit for that hour.
