What is AVID?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a national program in which participating schools work together to help students reach their academic and life goals.

Students who spent at least four hours in the AVID Center have an 83% passing rate in their courses.
The overall retention rate for all of the AVID Learning Communities is 72.2%.
MHCC’s average retention rate is 73.5%.

A Cuban refugee will take an academic boost from MHCC to Stanford

Tuan Anh Tran Caraballo was a young Cuban refugee crossing into the United States with a little over $100 in his pocket.
In September this year, Tran Caraballo will start classes at Stanford University with nearly a full-ride scholarship worth almost $60,000.

Transitions is a career planning and college preparation program for single parents, displaced homemakers or women who speak English as a second language.
