    General safety instructions

WARNING! Read all safety warnings and allinstructions. Failure to follow the warnings

and instructions may result in electric shock, fireand/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future ref-erence.

The term power tool in the warnings refers toyour mains-operated (corded) power tool or bat-tery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1 WORK AREA SAFETYa. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and

dark areas invite accidents.b. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmo-

spheres, such as in the presence of flammableliquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparkswhich may ignite the dust or fumes.

    c. Keep children and bystanders away while oper-ating a power tool. Distractions can cause you tolose control.

2 ELECTRICAL SAFETYa. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never

modify the plug in any way. Do not use anyadapter plugs with earthed (grounded) powertools. Unmodified plugs and matching outletswill reduce risk of electric shock.

    b. Avoid body contact with earthed or groundedsurfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges andrefrigerators. There is an increased risk of elec-tric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

    c. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet condi-tions. Water entering a power tool will increasethe risk of electric shock.

    d. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord forcarrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges ormoving parts. Damaged or entangled cords in-crease the risk of electric shock.

    e. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an

extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use ofa cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk ofelectric shock.

    f. If operating a power tool in a damp location isunavoidable, use a residual current device(RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reducesthe risk of electric shock.

3 PERSONAL SAFETYa. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use

common sense when operating a power tool. Donot use a power tool while you are tired or underthe influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. Amoment of inattention while operating powertools may result in serious personal injury.

    b. Use personal protective equipment. Alwayswear eye protection. Protective equipment suchas dust mask, non skid safety shoes, hard hat, orhearing protection used for appropriate condi-tions will reduce personal injuries.

    c. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure theswitch is in the off-position before connecting topower source and/or battery pack, picking up orcarrying the tool. Carrying power tools with yourfinger on the switch or energising power toolsthat have the switch on invites accidents.

    d. Remove any adjusting key or wrench beforeturning the power tool on. A wrench or a key leftattached to a rotating part of the power tool mayresult in personal injury.

    e. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and bal-ance at all times. This enables better control ofthe power tool in unexpected situations.

    f. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing orjewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and glovesaway from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewel-lery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

    g. If devices are provided for the connection ofdust extraction and collection facilities, ensurethese are connected and properly used. Use ofdust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

    h. Do not let familiarity gained from freuquent use

    Read the Operating Instructions/Notes!

    Wear ear protection.

    Wear a dust mask.

    Wear protective goggles.

    Wear protective gloves.

    Disconnect from the power supply!

  • of tools allow you to become complacent and ig-nore, tool safety principles. A careless actioncan cause severe injury within a fraction of a sec-ond.

4 POWER TOOL USE AND CAREa. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct

power tool for your application. The correctpower tool will do the job better and safer at therate for which it was designed.

    b. Do not use the power tool if the switch does notturn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot becontrolled with the switch is dangerous and mustbe repaired.

    c. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or battery pack from the power tool beforemaking any adjustments, changing accessories,or storing power tools. Such preventive safetymeasures reduce the risk of starting the powertool accidentally.

    d. Store idle power tools out of the reach of chil-dren and do not allow persons unfamiliar withthe power tool or these instructions to operatethe power tool. Power tools are dangerous in thehands of untrained users.

    e. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignmentor binding of moving parts, breakage of partsand any other condition that may affect the pow-er tools operation. If damaged, have the powertool repaired before use. Many accidents arecaused by poorly maintained power tools.

    f. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properlymaintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edgesare less likely to bind and are easier to control.

    g. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bitsetc. in accordance with these instructions tak-ing into account the working conditions and thework to be performed. Use of the power tool foroperations different from those intended couldresult in a hazardous situation.

    h. Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil andgrease. Slippery handles do not allow for safehandling and control of the tool in unexpectedsituations.

5 SERVICEa. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified re-

pair person using only identical replacementparts. This will ensure that the safety of the pow-er tool is maintained.

Machine-related safety instructions Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces,

because the cutter may contact its own cord.Cutting a "live" wire may make exposed metal

parts of the power tool "live" and could give theoperator an electric shock.

Use clamps or another practical way to secureand support the workpiece to a stable platform.Holding the work by your hand or against thebody leaves it unstable and may lead to loss ofcontrol.

Check that the cutter is firmly fitted and runsfreely.

The clamping collet and union nut must show nosigns of damage.

The tools must be rated for at least the speedmarked on the power tool. Tools running overrated speed can fly apart and cause injury.

Only cutters provided by Festool for this pur-pose may be mounted on the power tool. Theuse of other cutters is prohibited due to the in-creased risk of injury.

Never use dull or damaged mortising bits. Dullor damaged mortising bits can cause the tool tolurch sideways unexpectedly and lead to a loss ofcontrol of the power tool.

The clamping collet should only be used to clamptools with a shank diameter appropriate for thecollet.

Only guide the machine against the workpiecewhen it is switched on.

Do not cut metal objects, nails or screws. Wait until the power tool stops completely until

placing it down. The tool can become entangledand lead to a loss of control of the power tool.

Do not allow hands to reach into the cutting areaand come into contact with the cutter. Use yoursecond hand to hold the additional hand grip orthe motor housing.

Wear suitable protection: such as ear protec-tion, safety goggles, a dust mask for work whichgenerates dust, and protective gloves when
