The Training Standard Review process exists to ensure a consistent application of the Training standards and to capitalize on the areas of strength and identify areas of improvement related to the NGO's Training department.Methodology:

The Training Standards Review is an auditing tool that was put in place to ensure the compliance with the Training standards in NGOs that conduct training.

It is an independent, objective and consulting activity designed to add value and improve the NGOs Training operations. It helps the NGO accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of control and governance processes. Conducted by an external reviewer, the review capitalizes on the areas of strength and allocates areas of improvement related to the NGOs Training department. The overall responsibility for the achievement of the standards is held by the Training Manager. Following the reviews, the Reviewer and the Training Manager will discuss the outcome with the NGO Management and agree on a future plan of action.

The format can be used as a tool to set-up the Training department in a new NGO or for handover between Training Managers.Training Standards Review TSR Pre-Review:

Review the criteria and complete an assessment for the training department. Add any appropriate comments, record the past achievements. Collect all the supporting evidence to back up your rating. The more evidence you collect, the easier the review will be. As the review will involve other departments, it is preferable to inform all departments about the review dates.Reviewers Profile: Ethical -fair, truthful, sincere and discreetOpen-minded - willing to consider alternative ideas or point of viewsDiplomatic tactful in dealing with peopleObservant actively aware of physical surroundings and activities Perceptive instinctively aware and able to understand situationsDecisive reaches timely conclusions based on logical reasoning and analysisPositive remembers that the review purpose is to help boost a situation to new heightsReviewer Pitfalls:Being too lenient on the reviewee Being too hard on the revieweeNot listeningArguing with the revieweeExceeding the scope of the reviewPoor time managementReporting too many negative detailsReviewee Pitfalls:Not being prepared with the related evidenceProviding misleading answersProviding too much detailsTraining Standards Review TSR
