1. PURPOSE
To provide proper procedure, prevention and protection for all site personnel and properties within the construction site, for carrying out demolition works
2. DRAWINGS AND CP REFERENCE
All demolition works shall strictly refer to drawings and CP reference as follows,
2.1 Code of Practice SS 557:2010 3. METHOD STATEMENT FOR DEMOLITION OF ENTIRE MULTI-STOREY
BUILDINGS
General sequence of demolition is top-down method in vertical direction, which is the reverse order of construction / erection of a building. Demolition shall start from the highest floor of a building and work downward. Sequence of demolition commences with floor slab first, follows by beams/walls and columns, and the process is repeated at every floor. Details sequence are as follows,
3.1 Sequence of Demolition
1. Set out and mark building to be demolished. 2. Erect proper hoarding to demarcate and barricade demolition area. 3. Erect adequate warning signboards around demolition area. 4. Erect proper protection to existing structures to be retained. 5. Erect full height perimeter safety net with scaffolding at the perimeter of the
existing building. 6. Disconnect all utilities supplies to demolition area, such as gas lines,
electricity cables, water lines etc. 7. Remove all glass windows manually. 8. Install proper props to support existing slabs and beams if required 9. Designate proper vehicular access. 10. Mobilise hydraulic breakers/crushers/ excavator to demolition area. 11. Mobilise tipper trucks to demolition area. 12. Hoist hydraulic crushers/breakers and excavators to designated area of the
building at roof top. 13. Commence demolition works from roof level by hydraulic crusher/breaker,
breaking down existing structural elements into several sections. 14. Channel concrete debris and cut steel to 1st storey through designated
dumping areas. 15. Remove concrete debris and cut steel off site at 1st storey. 16. Repeat Item sequence 13 to 15 for other floors up to 1st storey. 17. Spraying water continuously at contact areas between concrete elements
and hydraulic crushers/breakers during the entire process of demolition.

18. Hydraulic breakers will be engaged to hack up existing ground slab, foundation & pilecaps on site.
19. Upon completion of demolition works, all voids within the site will be backfilled and levelled with approved materials.
20. Demobilise hydraulic breakers/excavators and tipper lorry.
3.2 Major Equipment Used
1. Hydraulic crushers 2. Hydraulic breakers 3. Hydraulic excavators 4. Tipper lorries
3.3 Personal Protection Equipment
1. Safety hard hat 2. Safety shoes 3. Safety eyewear 4. Safety hardness 5. Dust mask 6. Ear plugs 7. Working gloves

4. HAZARD ANALYSIS FOR SITE SAFETY
Activity Potential Hazard
Control Measures Action By
Before commencement of site work
Inadvertent trespassing by workers
Barricade and install proper signage at the perimeter of the vicinity.
Project supervisor
Water pollution and mosquito hazard
Erect suitable drainage and dewatering measure to keep the site dry.
Project supervisor
Mobilisation of hydraulic crusher, excavator and tipper lorry
Mechanical failure
Machine to maintain periodically as per preventive maintenance program. Only licensed operator is permitted to operate the machine. Daily operational checks to be carried out.
Licensed machine operator
Demolition process Damage to existing utilities supplies
Disconnect, remove or protect the existing services according to the required practises.
Project supervisor
Workers crush by operating machinery
No persons shall be permitted to stand around working radius of the machinery
Project supervisor
Workers inadvertent enter demolition vicinity
Sufficient warning signs and adequate barricades are to be placed around the demolition area.
Project supervisor
Horizontal transport of concrete debris by tipper truck
Collision between vehicles, structure and personnel
Ensure the access has sufficient clearance Use traffic watchman to guide vehicles

5. RISK ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR DEMOLITION WORKS
Item Potential Risk
Control Measures Assessment
1. Excessive noise
Use hydraulic crusher
Demolition is carried out using combination of hydraulic crushers and breakers. Noise meter will be installed at boundary to monitor noise level. Limit working hours from 8.00am to 7.00pm, Monday to Saturday.
Use hydraulic breaker Install noise meter to monitor noise level falls within prescribed level specified in DIN standard of 3mm/s
2. Excessive dust
Spray water to keep concrete wet
Spray water during demolition process and wet all concrete debris before channel down to 1st storey for disposal.
3. Excessive vibration
Use hydraulic crusher
Demolition is carried out using combination of hydraulic crushers and breakers. Vibration meter will be installed at boundary to monitor vibration level.
Use hydraulic breaker Install vibration meter to monitor vibration level falls within prescribed level. Install 2-layer of used tyres at bottom of dumping area
4. Falling debris
Install full height perimeter scaffolding with heavy duty netting
Both full height perimeter scaffolding with heavy duty netting and perimeter catch platform at every 3-level will be installed prior to demolition.
Install perimeter catch platform
5. Adversely affect the structural stability of superstructure
Use hand breaker to detach structural elements that are connected to adjacent property prior to demolition.
Existing building are stand alone buildings.

of adjacent property
Carry out pre-construction survey to adjacent building prior to demolition for record purpose.
Pre-construction survey is conducted to adjacent properties prior to demolition.
6. Adversely affect the stability of the foundation of adjacent property
Install retaining structure prior to demolition of basement or existing retaining wall.
Demolition is carried out systematically from top level down to 1st storey level.
7. Uncontrolled collapse of existing building
Demolition to be carried out by top-down method.
Demolition is carried up systematically from top level down to 1st storey level.
8. Localise collapse due to overloading of concrete debris and cut rebar
Continuous removal of concrete debris and cut rebar during demolition process.
During demolition process, concrete debris and cut rebar is continuously channel down to 1st storey level at designated dumping area and remove progressively and continuously.
9. Localise collapse due to heavy machinery.
Use hydraulic crusher, breaker and excavator.
Demolition is carried out using combination of hydraulic crushers, breakers and excavators.
For heavy equipment, existing beams and slab are to prop to form proper access.
Where heavy equipment is used, the existing beams and slabs are propped to form proper access. Floor level will be propped by 48mm diameter props @ 1200mm c/c for 5 levels.
