Keeping Your Heart HealthyWhat’s fun and easy that you like to do everyday? Playing, of course!Did you know that playing also helps to keep your heart healthy? Look at it this way. Your heart is a muscle. Now what’s the best way to keep a muscle in shape? By exercising it! Like any other muscle, your heart responds to exercise by becoming stronger. That means it can pump just as much blood everyday, but with less effort. Less effort means more blood gets pumped with each beat, so your heart really doesn’t have to work as hard. It simply works better. So where does playing come in? Playing gives your heart a good workout. Naturally we don’t mean playing a video game. We mean running, playing a sport, jumping rope; what’s called active play. But whatever your activity: Play actively at least 60 minutes a day.
Play vigorously for at least 20 minutes. It’s vigorous if you’re breathing hard,
sweating and your heart is beating faster.
Exercise is good for your heart and fun too!
