In the past decade, KCTCS has successfully consolidated 14 community colleges and 15 technical schools into 16 comprehensive community and technical colleges operating on 67 campuses throughout the Commonwealth.
KCTCS 10-year enrollment more than doubled, increasing from 45,988
to 92,828 students. In 2007, KCTCS students represented 43.6% of all undergraduate
students enrolled in Kentucky’s public postsecondary institutions.
Since 1998, KCTCS has become the largest provider of postsecondary education and workforce training in the Commonwealth, with 4,850 businesses served in 2007 via workforce initiatives.
The number of credentials awarded by KCTCS colleges soared to a record
number of 20,970 in 2006-07, representing a 560% increase for the decade. The KCTCS Board of Regents has approved or ratified 2,765 new programs,
diplomas, options, and certificates in the past ten years. Today, KCTCS offers 600 credit program options. During the past decade, 54 capital projects have been authorized for
completion at the 16 colleges. Projects range from renovation of existing facilities to construction of entirely new campuses.

“We were on a moving train that steamed ahead into a new school year…these schools were to open with business as usual, but we, as the responsible body, were to be the engineers! We were to keep the train on track and make sure it got to its destination faster than ever before. . . “The first year was a challenge. Everything had to be discussed, created, and organized…payroll structures, personnel policies. It is mind boggling to think of the decisions we made, the issues we faced that first year…it seemed that we were meeting constantly.”

Here’s What Happened in 1964 at Texas Instruments
TI employees contributed $4,325 or 1/3 of the goal of the Woodford County Community Chest [forerunner of the United Way,] Red Cross, and Woodford County Memorial Hospital. TI Educational Assistance Program provided financial help to TI’ers seeking to further their education. Employees were paid 90% of the expense incurred in taking an approved course, also recognizing scholarship achievement in local schools with certificates and cash awards to outstanding students.

KCTCS and William’s Toys To date, almost 600 children have been blessed with gifts under their holiday tree through the William’s Toys project.
The William Foster Tichenor Scholarship Fund has provided nursing scholarships to seven KCTCS students.
“Educate the parent, and bless the child.” The parents in the Ready-to-Work program have been given an opportunity to leave the public assistance rolls, obtain an education, and enter the world of work.
William’s Toys children have received a double blessing, not only with bikes and dolls and new coats, but through the gift of hope provided to their families by the KCTCS team.
What was once a narrow doorway for a privileged few is now an open gateway for
every Kentuckian.
