Key benefits and features of IneoS eltex® PF for blown films

Significant downgauging potential thanks to outstanding mechanical properties.

Superior optical properties compared to hexene- and octene-based lldPe materials.

lower extrusion pressure and lower energy consumption compared to other competitive standard Metallocenes.

eltex® PF for regular blown film applications

PF6212 and PF6220 series have been developed to serve the various blown film market segments:

Barefoot and slip/anti-block formulations, to be selected according to the requirements of the final film article.

PF6212la and PF6212lJ have very low gel levels and are intended for the most demanding lamination applications.

The addition of polymer processing aid is usually not required with IneoS mlldPe. However, ae and Ke versions containing PPa are recommended for the most severe processing conditions with narrow die gaps, very thin films and/or high productivity extrusion lines.

Stable process and gauge consistency are obtained thanks to an excellent bubble stability, even for the melt-index 2 product series.

elTex® PF For Blown FIlM aPPlIcaTIonSA wide range of solutions

From simple monolayer to complex coextruded structures, from pure polyethylene to sophisticated combinations with materials such as PP, eVoH, Pa or oPet, the race for higher extrusion rates, downgauging and improved blown film performance continues.

eltex® PF6612, PF6812 and PF6912 series can be used in a pure state or in a blend with ldPe, in mono- or multi-layer film compositions.

These materials are particularly valuable in collation shrink-wrap and various other consumer packaging applications where the stiffness is key to their success.

Increasing the density often goes together with the gauge reduction in order to maintain appropriate film stiffness and creep resistance.

IneoS eltex® PF grades which have densities from 926 to 936 kg/m3 are ideal partners for the development of advanced film formulations with optimum thickness reduction.

eltex® PF6012 series: a unique combination of sealing performance, mechanical properties and stiffness

The sealing layer is usually a key element in coextruded film structures dedicated to heat sensitive food and vertical form fill seal (VFFS) packaging lines.

The distinctive microstructure of IneoS Metallocene products contributes to the excellent seal strength and Hot Tack of eltex® PF6012 products.

eltex® PF6012aa and KJ are particularly adapted to multilayer films used on high speed FFS lines for packaging, requiring efficient sealability through contaminants (fat, powder, etc.).

compared to state-of-the-art sealant options, eltex® PF6012aa and KJ deliver improved mechanical properties which are also valuable in highly demanding industrial applications when higher impact and puncture resistance are a must.

eltex® PF: a competitive mlldPe solution for your cast extrusion process

The simple processing ability of IneoS Metallocene cast film grades results in lower energy consumption, reduced melt pressure and limited self-heating during extrusion, with the added benefit of a more efficient cooling by chill rolls.

eltex® PF grade slate for cast film

eltex® PF6130 exhibits outstanding impact and puncture resistance compared to conventional hexene or octene lldPe.

The very low gel level of eltex® PF6130la is particularly suited to high stretching ratios.

The easy processing of eltex® PF6140aa allows for the achievement of optimum line speeds whilst maintaining low neck-in and excellent mechanical properties.

INEOS Olefins & Polymers Europe also offers a range of LDPE and hexene-based LLDPE cast grades, an ideal complement to Eltex® PF in multilayer structures. For instance, INEOS LL-C6 with densities as high as 936 kg/m3 are valuably used as anti-cling layers in mLLDPE cast film compositions.

elTex® PF For caST FIlM aPPlIcaTIonSHigh performance for thin films

the latest developments in cast film processes have pushed the limits of line speed, thickness and number of layers in coextruded structures even further. Moreover, their performance in terms of puncture resistance, stretchability and surface smoothness remain essential for a high quality cast stretch film. IneoS has developed a Metallocene grade slate which addresses these new challenges to become: “thinner, faster and better.”

Key benefits and features of IneoS eltex® PF for cast films

Good web stability during extrusion at high output rates.

eltex® PF6130 and PF6140 are advantageously used in high performance cast stretch applications like power stretch and pre-stretch films.

the superior lamination quality of eltex® PF6130la is also suitable for the production of artificial grass monofilaments.

outstanding mechanical properties

elongations higher than 250 % are readily achieved with coextruded structures based on eltex® PF materials.

compared to conventional lldPe, strong improvements in dart drop impact resistance have been recorded and the puncture resistance of pre-stretch films is also markedly improved.

The presence of gels not only affects the film aesthetics and the printing quality, but also has the potential to generate breaks or holes in the film during severe stretching processes.

Quality and consistency for high performance films

Very low levels of gels are achieved with eltex® PF cast film grades thanks to a tight monitoring of the manufacturing process combined with advanced quality control.

eltex® PF6130la fulfills the requirements of the most demanding cast film applications like power stretch wrap packaging and artificial turf.

The figure on the right shows a typical high performance extrusion coated structure for liquid packaging.

The inner packaging layer or sealing layer is made up of 60 % to 80 % weight of eltex® PF 1315aa blended with 40 % to 20 % weight of homopolymer ldPe.

The acid copolymer layer (tie layer between the sealing layer and the aluminium foil) is typically composed of IneoS M24n430 ethylene-methacrylic acid copolymer containing 3.8 % of methacrylic acid. It is highly suited to milk packaging.

The outer and lamination ldPe layers are typically made up of IneoS ldPe 19n430 for standard extrusion coating line speeds or 20n430 for very high extrusion coating line speeds.

The unique performances of eltex® PF Metallocene resins for coextrusion coating can be easily demonstrated and exemplified thanks to IneoS’ pilot extrusion coating line located in cologne (Germany).

This pilot line is equipped with a hydraulic laminator with a maximum speed of 1.100 m/min and a working width of 550 to 850 mm. It is also equipped with four extruders

and a full set of feed-block inserts allowing for coextru-sion coating of up to 5 layer structures in one cycle.

This unique tool, combined with the benefit of more than 50 years of experience held within our Technical Services team equate to valuable assets which are there to support IneoS customers willing to develop the extrusion coating structures of the future.

Floor heating pipes require a combination of mechanical performances at elevated temperatures with great flexibility for ease of installation. Plumbing pipes produced with aluminum layers require a specific high resistance to thermal oxidation.

eltex® tuB 220-rt delivers this unrivalled balance of properties.

Pe-rt type II with unmatched flexibility

Flexibility is a key requirement for easy pipe installation. eltex® TuB 220-rT ranks the best in the Pe-rT type II class, reducing the flexibility gap with Pe-rT type I materials.

These properties make eltex® TuB 220-rT the material of choice for flexible floor heating pipes.

eltex® TuB 220-rT demonstrates the best flexibility for a Pe-rT type II

outstanding resistance to thermal oxidation

when submitted to hydrostatic inner pressure testing at 110 °c under 2.6 MPa stress conditions, pipes withstand testing times above 22,000 hours without failure. Most remarkably, upon being submitted to chlorine resistance test (aSTM F2023) eltex® TuB 220-rT surpasses even the most stringent cl5 classification (aSTM F2769) specification, with an extrapolated time-to-failure well above 50 years.

These properties make eltex® TuB 220-rT the material of choice for inner layer of multilayer composite pipe structures with a very effective aluminium layer protection.
