Rebel Wizard is heavy metal music, with its own particular twist. It is a combination of black metal vocals and traditional heavy metal riffs/hooks/melodies, with a necro black metal production. On this recording, Rebel Wizard has asked the question: Isn’t black metal another form of heavy metal? Is black metal another form of hipster postrock, emo djent and postpunk core sludge space rock stuff? Well, is it? Is it headbanging metal music? Rebel Wizard has answered in the affirmative, with traditional metal riffs that you

might recognize as Judas Priest/Accept/Running Wild or any other band that plays heavy metal in a proud way. This is heavy metal because there is such a thing as real metal music, even though your politically correct friends try to argue that “anything” can be metal. No, Rebel Wizard is metal. Hipsters doing emo vocals and core djent space rock? Not so much. C’mon, is this how Rebel Wizard really feels? Well, how else would you explain these headbanging riffs? How to explain these in-your-face hooks? Just listen to “On the Unknown Self They Ride” and tell me that you don’t hear the classic heavy metal laying down the law! Where does that come from, if not from the fountain of classic heavy metal? Here is another important question: Are you intolerant of homemade metal music? Do you listen to metal that does not have the big-budget fancy production? This matter of the sound quality is an important issue, and if you don’t listen to demos and self-financed recordings, then you probably will not like Rebel Wizard. Of course, if you hate necro black metal vocals, then Rebel Wizard might not be for you, either. In summary, on this recording Rebel Wizard sounds like homemade necro black heavy metal. That’s my story, and I’m sticking it to it. official information about Rebel Wizard Melbourne based blackened heavy metal band REBEL WIZARD are pleased to announce the release of their latest EP Invocation of the Miserable Ones. The EP is 4 tracks combining the sound of traditional heavy metal with atmospheric black metal, and is best described as a mix of Usurper, Aura Noir, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. This solo project of Australian musican Nekrasov originally started in 2013 with a self-titled demo but in 2015 saw a rush of activity

with a total of 5 EPs being released on either cassette or digital format. Despite only self-releasing, the band has already received positive press from Metalsucks, No Clean Singing and Invisible Oranges Rebel Wizard is a project of Australian musician Nekrasov (Who also releases black metal music under his own name). The music which he describes as "New wave of Negative Metal" or "Negative Wizard Metal" is fairly unique in an era where metal in the underground tends to be more conservative. The music combines a range of styles but is best described as "blackened traditional heavy metal". The project takes the old-school, hooky sounds of bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and combines it with the blistering speed and darkness of Aura Noir and Usurper. discography (according to Metal Archives) Rebel Wizard Demo 2013 The Way of the Negative Wizard EP 2015 Miserable Mythical Creatures EP 2015 Only the Negative Will Save Us EP 2015 Negative Wizard Metal EP 2015 Invocation of the Miserable Ones EP 2015 www.rebelwizard.bandcamp.com www.facebook.com/rebelwizard ** NEWS: Third Sovereign Perversion Swallowing Sanity release date: January 15th, 2016 label: Transcending Obscurity India

Aficionados of no-nonsense, upfront death metal old school brutality and heaviness might be surprised by India's response to Cannibal Corpse: Third Sovereign. This band is a bad bunch of politicians, a terrible group of scam artists: they don’t fool anyone: it’s death metal that they came for and it’s death metal that will be on the agenda. Just death metal. The agenda has one point and it looks like this: Things to do today: 1.death metal The band apparently started back in 2003, so they have been around a minute. Best thing of all, you can listen to the complete album at Bandcamp and get your groove on. official information/hype: It was in the winter of 2003 that 3 individuals from Aizawl decided to pursue and transcend their musical interests and explore territories which no one had dared to before,in the region. Nothing could change their frame of mind and not owing and bowing down to the stereotypicals, they shifted base to Delhi in order to expand their horizons. Thus,IIIrd Sovereign saw the light of the day and since then, there has been no looking back and the band has gone through various phases and

Page 4: Metal Bulletin Zine 76

have ever evolved, facing numerous obstacles in their evolution with admirable determination. The band remains true to its single-minded resolve, which is making pure and honest music. IIIrd Sovereign perceives it's lyrical interpretation through mortality, nuclear warfare, politics and sins committed which reflects back on our lives and for which the curse of life will always be upon us. Until' Mortality!! Third Sovereign are a legendary death metal band in the country of India. Known for their intense and rabid live shows, they have taken almost a decade to come up with a follow up album to the sold out classic that's 'Destined to Suffer'. Third Sovereign whip up a storm with their thrash-tinged proto-death metal that hearkens back to the era of bands like Sepultura, Monstrosity, Cannibal Corpse and Vader. The members are die-hard old school metalheads and their passion for the genre hasn't diminished despite having relocated to a remote region in the North-Eastern section of the country, in Aizwal, Mizoram. Not many bands from the country are able to play death metal that's so pure in intent and Third Sovereign clearly separate the men from the boys. This is classic-sounding thrashy death metal that most metalheads have weaned on in their formative years. 'Perversion Swallowing Sanity' is a throwback to an era of unanimous unity and respect for well-written and performed death metal, regardless of the trends and stylistic differences. Third Sovereign are back to reclaim their throne. discography: Horrified Visions - EP (Demonstealer Records,2006) Destined To Suffer - LP (Demonstealer Records,2007) Deprived Serenity - EP (Grey & Saurian Records,2008)

This band might remind you of how Nile began as a promising band that transformed into a monster. Given that the source of inspiration is Tolkien it means that this band will never run out of material! This is a good demo-level recording and you can tell that this could be the beginning of something really good. This recording is pretty good, but I sense that there's going to be a whole lot more happening here. It's heavy as death metal can be, with the growled vocals that you expect, but there's also technicality, brutality and melody. You might say that you hear some Nile in here or whatnot. Sure, whatever, you're a nice person and I don't want to argue with you. You don't like to argue and I don't like argue. You know what you can do, though? You can bang your head and we'll call it even. Some years from now these Lombardiland boys might be telling all the skeptics: "How you like me now?!" I await that day! Let's get this show on road! Khazaddum is bad to the bone. Discount double check, big time!

The follow-up to 2012’s Unborn Suffer, and UNBORN SUFFER’s overall fifth full album, Nihilist was recorded in late 2014 and early 2015 in local Post Abortum Studio while mixing and mastering duties were taken care of by Szymon Grodzki (Invent Sound). The record surges with seventeen tracks of ultra-brutal death metal with heavy grindcore influences, a relentless sound that will definitely appeal to those who worship the works of Dying Fetus, Internal Bleeding, Mortician, and Napalm Death. UNBORN SUFFER was formed in November 2001 in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Two years later the band recorded their debut full-length entitled Procreated Suffering and self-released it. "Unborn Suffer" www.selfmadegod.bandcamp.com/album/nihilist www.facebook.com/UnbornSuffer ** review by The Man of Much Metal Artist: Fleshgod Apocalypse Album Title: King Label: Nuclear Blast Year Of Release: 2016 You can’t beat a bit of unadulterated brutality. My life would be much the duller without some brutality in it. I’m not, of course, talking about physical violence here. After all, I’m the kind of coward that runs away at the first hint of bodily harm on my part. Musically however, and depending on my mood, I have been heard to utter the words ‘the more brutal the better’. With that in mind, it’s not surprising that I was keen to offer my thoughts on the new album from Fleshgod Apocalypse. As well as being a band with a fondness for brutality, Italian quintet Fleshgod Apocalypse are not a band to which the phrase ‘less is more’ can be applied. Throughout their eight year and three-album history, Fleshgod Apocalypse have experimented with a brand of symphonic and technical death metal that is ambitious to say the least. Alongside the pummelling riffs, the bludgeoning drumming, the growled vocals and the overall high speed extreme metal assault, Fleshgod Apocalypse also introduce elements of symphonic classical music, operatic female vocals, and clean male vocals. The result is a sound that can, without any doubt, be referred to as epic. However, with album number four, entitled ‘King’, some of these elements have been increased whilst others have been honed and refined to a point where I’m now confident to declare that

Page 8: Metal Bulletin Zine 76

8

Messrs Tommaso Riccardi (Vocals, Guitar), Cristiano Trionfera (Guitar, Vocals), Paolo Rossi (Bass, clean Vocals), Francesco Paoli (Drums, Guitar, Vocals) and Francesco Ferrini (Keyboard, Piano, Orchestral Arrangements) have delivered the best record of the their career to date.

After a short but dramatic classical film score overture entitled ‘March Royale’, ‘In Aeternum’ kicks in with the subtlety of a brick to the face. Warp speed blast beats and scything riffs duel with a heavy orchestral score to create an intense listening experience, full of bombast and technical prowess. As the track develops, melody is introduced brilliantly to take an already ambitious track to another level entirely. The passionate clean male vocals enter the fray, as does a surprisingly melodious and soulful lead guitar solo that wouldn’t sound out of place on a classic metal or power metal record. There is the briefest of moments of acoustic guitar-led calm before a reintroduction of the soaring vocals and in the blink of an eye, the song is over. There’s no let-up however, as ‘Healing Through War’ picks up the baton with literally no pause for breath. Again, the blueprint is technical death metal blended wonderfully

with an electric and dramatic classical score, made all the more palatable thanks to a rich and vibrant production topped off by a typically polished mix and master from Jens Bogren (Fascination Street Studios) And whilst this blueprint is accurate for a large proportion of the tracks on ‘King’, this statement comes with a huge caveat: at no point do I feel daunted or exhausted by the almost unrelenting tumult that Fleshgod Apocalypse creates. Within the compositions and their impressive structures, there is a surprising amount of variety if you’re prepared to take the time to listen out for it. There is also plenty of melody to catch the ear and I also get the feeling that the band themselves are having fun creating this music. As such, almost imperceptibly and despite much of the dark subject matter on offer, there is an almost light-hearted and fun vibe about this record. ‘Cold As Perfection’ still retains the ever-present insane drumming but the overall pace is slowed to allow a touch more groove to proceedings and to allow the relatively simple central melody to shine through. When the guitars drop out and then return to ring out for a few seconds, the tone is intoxicating. Additionally, there’s even room for a spoken-word section and the female operatic vocals make quite an impact. All this within a five-minute window of opportunity is impressive and demonstrates just how accomplished the song writing on this album is. Other notable songs include the hyper-fast and unrelenting aggression of ‘Mitra’, and two tracks that offer something a little new to the Fleshgod armoury. The title track closes out the album by way of a piano-only instrumental, almost the equivalent of a cool flannel to a fevered brow. And ‘Paramour (Die Leidenschaft Bringt Leiden)’ is a quirky mid-album palette-cleanser which again is a

Page 9: Metal Bulletin Zine 76

9

classical piano-led piece overlaid with female operatic vocals. And if all that wasn’t enough, there’s the charmingly-titled ‘Syphilis’ which has to be my favourite track on the album. The first half is full of brooding intensity where the operatic vocals juxtapose the metal to nice effect but after a female spoken word section, the song transforms into a truly epic and quite majestic piece that delivers a powerful crescendo full of sorrow and pain. What was it I said about a sense of fun earlier? Overall, I find myself really rather impressed by this latest offering from Fleshgod Apocalypse. I’ve never been a super fan, more of a distant admirer. However, based on the music here, that could be about to change. Hailing from Philadelphia, PA, Corners of Sanctuary formed in 2011 to breath new life into Heavy Metal. Driven by the power and inspiration given to us by Metal music, C.O.S. has ignited the fires of classic Heavy Metal, bringing the genre full circle as the sounds of yesterday live again as the sounds of today in the New Wave of Traditional American Heavy Metal (NWoTAHM) genre! Hard hitting, head banging, straight forward Heavy Metal is the mission - nothing less will do. Old School is back with a vengeance.... Metal Has Returned! Corners of Sanctuary has performed with Saxon, Anvil, Damon Johnson (Black Star Riders), and David Shankle (Manowar, DSG) among others. Their 2013 album “Axe to Grind” was released through La Mazakuata Records. In 2014 the album was re-released by Pure Steel Records. Pure Steel Records also released the band’s second album “Harlequin”. Corners of Sanctuary’s fourth album “Metal Machine” is slated to release October 2015 on Metalizer Records Germany. Mastered by Death Dealer guitarist Stu “The Hammer” Marshall, this album will pick up where “Axe to Grind” left off. Get your Metal engines running you’re not going to want to miss this one!

As our world enters into the second decade of the new millennia, music continues to be a driving force in all our lives. More than just a backdrop lost in the noise, music is the marker of the many milestones along our journey through life. Each and every moment in time can be linked to a memorable song, an inspirational melody or the emotionally charged lyrics of our favorite songwriter. Music is the energy that moves our lives - it is powerful. Music is universal. Music is forever. Corners of Sanctuary was formed in early 2011 after members of a previous band, Seeker, regrouped in 2010 to celebrate the band’s anniversary. The reunion spawned a desire that brought members Sean Nelligan, James Pera and Mick Michaels to begin working together again. Vocalist Frankie Cross was added to complete the line up. Each member had honed their craft while playing in several Philadelphia-area based bands. The need to return to their roots was apparent. With a direction and a sound that by now was

inherent to each, Corners of Sanctuary (C.O.S.) began writing and rehearsing all original material. On Friday, March 30, 2012, C.O.S. released their six-track EP, Forgotten Hero. The EP received national acclaim at SD Metal. The band released a full-length CD titled Breakout which dropped worldwide on June 19, 2012, The first single “Sanctuary” was received with positive reviews and was accompanied by a music video. “Sanctuary” was quickly followed up with the next single “Wild Card” which also was made into a video. The band also released the track “Juggernaut”, that hit the airwaves strong and was followed by a supporting video. C.O.S. promoted the disc’s release with a string of private shows and radio interviews. Since the release of Breakout, C.O.S. has been working with La Mazakuata Records to expand the band’s fan reach in Mexico, Central and South America. C.O.S. appeared on La Mazakuata Records’ compilation release Metal Invasion Chapter Two, which released December 15, 2012. The songs “Sanctuary” and “Cross of War” appear on the disc. C.O.S. released the Holiday EP December Wind on November 1, 2012 which includes an all new, all original track “December Wind”. Also featured on the EP are cuts from previous releases and the first single, from the January 22, 2013 CD release Harlequin, “Angels Only Dare”. A portion of sales from the Holiday EP had been donated to cancer research. A video for the “December Wind” single was also produced. Two follow up editions of the Holiday EP, "Merry Metal Xmas I and II" have also been released in 2013 and 2014. C.O.S. supported the Harlequin release with a string of live performances and interviews

during 2013. Before the year was out, however, the band released their third album "Axe to Grind" under the La Mazakuata records label and toured throughout 2014 in support as well as supporting noted artists such as Anvil and David Shankle (Manowar, DSG). The "Axe to Grind" was later picked up by the Germany based company, Pure Steel Records, in late 2014 and re-release din Europe.

In 2015, Corners of Sanctuary embarked on their "Metal Machine Tour" as the band prepares to release their fourth album under Metalizer Records in Germany, During the first leg of their travels the band supported noted artists such as Saxon and Damon Johnson. "Metal Machine" has been mastered by famed producer and Death Dealer guitarist Stu "The Hammer" Marshall. In the calm before the storm of the new album's release on October 31, 2015, C.O.S. released the EP "Prelude to War - The Japan Demo" as a FREE Mp3 download on their website in July 2015. This EP features eight tracks. In August 2015, Corners of Sanctuary was names Rockwired Magazine's Artist of the
