MESSAGE OF OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE
April 2, Medjugorje
to Mirjana Dragićević-Soldo
“Dear children!
with a motherly love I desire to help you for your life of prayer
and penance to be a sincere attempt of drawing closer to my Son
and His divine light – that you may know how to separate your-
selves from sin. Every prayer, every Mass and every fasting is an
attempt of drawing closer to my Son, a reminder of His glory and
a refuge from sin – it is a way to a renewed union of the good Fat-
her and His children. Therefore, my dear children, with hearts
open and full of love, cry out the name of the Heavenly Father
that He may illuminate you with the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy
Spirit you will become a spring of God's love. All those who do not
know my Son, all those thirsting for the love and peace of my Son,
will drink from this spring. Thank you. Pray for your shepherds. I
pray for them and I desire that they may always feel the blessing
of my motherly hands and the support of my motherly heart.
GO TO CONFESSION
One of the first messages of Medju-gorje reads: “Peace, peace, let peace reign between man and God, and among people”. To let it happen, some conditions have to be met. The peace is a gift from God. To be able to accept this gift, you need to prepare your heart to be able to accept it. One of the first conditions for peace within us, between us and God is the holy confession.
Let us recall some of Our Lady's messages, which invite us to confes-sion: “Today I want to invite you all to confession, although you have con-fessed a few days ago ... I invite you to a reconciliation with God! I invite you to open the door of your heart to Jesus, as a flower opens to the sun. My children, you cannot make peace unless you are in peace with Jesus ... May the holy Confession be the first act of conversion, and then dear children, decide for holi-ness. May your conversion and decision
for holiness begin today and not tomor-row ... My children, through confession, open your hearts to God ... Open your heart to God's mercy in this Lenten sea-son. The heavenly Father wants each of you to be free from the slavery of sin. Therefore, my children, take advantage of this time and through a meeting with God in confession, leave sin and decide for holiness ... Dear children! At this time of renunciation, prayer and pen-ance, I call you anew: go and confess your sins so that the grace may open your hearts and let it change you”.
These invitations for us come from a motherly heart. They are very simple and at the same time challenging. In these invitations we uncover a deep motherly desire for our fullness of life and for our true happiness. The words of the messages of Our Lady are also the prayers by which she turns to us with the hope that we hear her words

it becomes powerless...

and bring them to life. It is tough to admit for a man that he
or she is a sinner. The condition for a person to come back to God is a recog-nition and admission that he is a sin-ner. Man cannot understand and expe-rience the feeling of sinfulness by his abilities and powers. An understanding and acceptance of the sinfulness is a gift of grace. If I sincerely see myself in God's light, I always find "parts" of my
being, which are not in God and for God, not in the service of love. It is hard to confess sins, in particular be-cause of pride, but it is still not the toughest part of life. It is not enough to confess some sin. It is too little. It is necessary to leave the sin. And there comes the problem. If someone contin-ued only in confessing sin, it would not be a sacrament. The essence of the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a re-pentance, renewal, conversion, a new life. Sacrament of Reconciliation im-pinges directly into the roots of our pride. The root of all sin is vanity, pride. I want to keep myself for me; I have a right to my hatred and my lust, to my life and my death. The human spirit and body is beset by its pride. A man, in the midst of his malice, desires to be like God. Confession before his
brother, a priest, is deeply humiliating. It hurts. It breaks us down. It viciously attacks conceit. To stand in front of a brother as a sinner, is a shame that is hard to bear. In the confessional an old man shamefully dies for a new person to be born. Jesus, on the cross, en-dured the most wretched death of the sinner, and so he redeemed us.
The road to resurrection is through the cross, through the shameful death of the old man in the Sacrament of Rec-onciliation. We cannot be resurrected if we are not prepared to die. Either be-cause of fear or of such and such dy-ing, a man is tempted to rationalize his actions, but the crime of our sins and their effects must be faced. In so doing, our God forgives us. Confession is an opportunity to experience the love of
T H E L I G H T O F M A R Y | 2 0 1 4 / 4 | 3 |
the heavenly Father. In confession, we can re-experience the resurrection. As the wages of sin is death, confession is the new life that God gives us. It is an experience to hear the words of a fa-ther: This is my son, my daughter, who was dead who now comes back to life again.
The sin is a spiritual reality that puts us in a relationship with God. If a per-son is away from God and His light,
then the sin becomes an invisible reali-ty for him, which rots and kills. With-out God, we are in a spiritual darkness. Sin embitters the whole human life, but it flees from light. Through the confes-sion the light of the Gospel comes to the heart in darkness. When in the confession a sin comes to light, it be-comes powerless. The spoken and des-pised sin loses its power during confes-sion.
Let us venture to die to ourselves in order to encompass the fullness of Christ's resurrection. The Pope Paul VI called Confession the “sacrament of hu-mility and joy”. We need humility to be able to admit our own misery and to experience the joy of forgiveness. For-giveness is not only our pleasure, but the pleasure of God most of all, be-cause of the fact that we came back to
Him. Let Mary, humble servant of the
Lord, lead us to the fullness of Christ's life.
Let us pray:
Mary, I consecrate to you every-thing I have not yet consecrated to you; everything I've still not submitted. Take it all, I beg you, O Mother. Touch, cleanse and take everything in me, which is still afraid and of what I am not aware. I desire to be closer to you, in the deepest intimacy of my being as the Apostle John, when he heard the com-mand from the cross: Son, behold your mother! Envelop me as the Holy Spirit overshadowed you by his shade. Amen.

On the half way to celebration from
Easter victory Our Heavenly Mother encourages us today: “I am calling you anew: begin battle against sin.” Her motherly words of love are lifting us up as in that time we were small kids
and we were learning to walk with our mother. When we fell down during our
first steps our mother picked us up, stood us on our feet and cried to us: “Don´t be afraid, come and walk…”
“Go to confession” she encourages when we fall, to decide again for a new
step ahead, a new chance, a new to-day.
Sincere confession is loved sacra-
ment of humble apostles of Our Lady. While we as proud people are kneeling
down in humbleness in front of priest, our proud is dying in confession booth.
In the message of 2.7. 2007 Mary says to us: “In the great love of God I come to you today to lead you on the
way of humility and meekness. The first station on that way, my children, is confession. Reject your arrogance and kneel down before my Son. Com-prehend, my children, that you have nothing and you can do nothing. The only thing that is yours and what you possess is sin. Be cleansed and accept meekness and humility. My Son could have won with strength, but He chose meekness, humility and love. Follow my Son and give me your hands so that, together, we may climb the moun-tain and win.”
In the holy sacrament of confession the Lord Jesus alone is waiting for us
in the person of the priest. When he blessed us and prays for us in confes-
sion, in that moment the miracle of our inner transformation is happen-ing. This is meeting with the Lord in
deep humbleness of heart. We are re-ceiving Him in person In His for-
giveness, His peace, His blessing, His

strength to walk forward. In messages
from last years Queen of Peace says to us: “Jesus desires to fill your hearts with peace and joy. Dear children, you cannot realize this peace if you don’t reconcile with Jesus. Therefore, I invite you to confession so Jesus may be your truth and peace.” (25.1.1995)
“Surrender yourselves to God so that He may heal you, console you, and for-
give everything inside of you that is a hindrance on the way of love. God can move your life and you will grow in love. My children, glorify God with a hymn of love so that God’s love may be able to grow in you day by day to its fullness.” (25.6.1988) Today we listen
to very similar words: “The love of God will begin to flow through you into the world, peace will begin to rule in your
hearts and God’s blessing will fill you.” In the school of Mary we know that
we are invited to go to confession every month, or more often according to our needs. She teaches us that it is not
enough to renounce sin, but it is nec-essary to decide for holiness anew.
She recommends us to ask a priest for advice. “How can I grow, what can I do
next?” She invites us to find a spiritu-al leader, one priest who will lead us by way of holiness. “Seek with humility that which is not in order in your hearts, and you shall understand what you have to do.” (25.4.1996)
When we read the messages of Our
Lady, we read about invitations to work on our hearts like it is a field. This is exactly what a sincere, and of-
ten a frequent, confession is about. We know that from experience that if
we will cultivate a field broadly, the
harvest will be sparse. The most beau-tiful fruit of our heart is love, which is strengthened, healed and purified in
the sacrament of confession. The holy sacrament of confession is
one of the main messages of Our Lady. Medugorje is called the “confession booth of the world”. The loving and
tender presence of Our Lady is heav-enly strength, which causes the re-
newal of heart. Millions of pilgrims are coming to Medugorje where the eyes of their soul are opened to see
their sins. Medugorje is the light of Mary. We are coming blinded with sins
and here we start to see what we did-n‟t see before. In this light we are find-
ing what we lost: peace, joy, love, the sense of life, everything we truly de-sire.
Let us pray:
Mary, help us get back up when we fall. Help us get up. In your heart we want to prepare for the sacrament of holy confession, to decide for holiness anew. We entrust to you this graceful season of fasting and penance to lead us to the Easter victory. Help us to work on our hearts carefully. Lead us into the depths of spiritual life in sim-plicity, humbleness, and in service to others in love. Amen.

To renew love towards Jesus
„Dear children! Again today I invite you to live the passion of
Jesus in prayer and in union with Him. Decide to give more time to God who gave you these
days of grace. Therefore, dear children, pray and in a special way renew the love for Jesus
in your hearts. I am with you and I accompa-
ny you with my blessing and my prayers. Thank you for having responded to my
call.“ (March 25, 1991)
Slavko Barbarić, OFM
TTThis message was given in Lent. Lent
is a time when we remember Christ‟s love
and what He suffered for us. It provides us with an opportunity to understand how
suffering by itself did not bring and earn
salvation, but the love with which Crist en-dured His passion and His cross accom-
plished our salvation. Helpful acts for oth-
ers become acts of mercy only when we do them with joy, humbly, and with love and
out of love. In the same way, the question
of our crosses becomes redemptive suffer-
ing when we carry them with love. Christ‟s reminding the women of Jerusalem not to
cry for Him but for themselves and their
children who need conversion is a reminder to all of us.
We do not celebrate Lent nor do we re-
member Christ‟s passion so that we can cry about what He suffered, but we do so in
order to renew our love towards Him. We
celebrate Lent in order to receive new en-couragement to grow in love, so that we
can carry our crosses and our burdens
with love. Without love, they will not have the value for eternity which they should
have, and that would be a real loss.
Mary knows human life and She wants
to educate us. She knows that, through suffering, friendships are made and love
matures. She knows that, by looking at
Christ, we can grow in love of Him and grow in that love which carries the crosses
and makes the sacrifices and transforms
them into good for us and for the glory of God. To observe Christ‟s love in suffering,
to enter into the mystery of that love,
means to become able to live a life worthy of man. To think and to meditate, to meet
and to be with Christ who suffers means to
discover true love and constantly grow in
it. The price for mature, perfect love is suf-fering. Through love, suffering becomes
easier because the one who loves can also
suffer. On the tree of suffering, love is the most beautiful fruit.
“He grew up like a sapling before him,
like a shot from the parched earth;
there was in him no stately bearing to
make us look at him, nor appearance
that would attract us to him. He was
spurned and avoided by men, a man
of suffering, accustomed to infirmity,
one of those from whom men hide
their faces, spurned, and we held him
in no esteem. Yet it was our infirmities
that he bore, our sufferings that he
endured, while we thought of him as
stricken, as one smitten by God and
afflicted. But he was pierced for our
offenses, crushed for our sins, upon
him was the chastisement that makes
us whole, by his stripes we were
healed… Because of his affliction we
shall see the light in fullness of days
through his suffering, my servant
shall justify many, and their guilt he
shall bear. Therefore, I will give him
his portion among the great, and he
shall divide the spoils with the
mighty, because he surrendered him-
self to death and was counted among
the wicked; and he shall take away
the sins of many, and win pardon for
their offenses.” (Is 53:2-5, 11-12)

"This Letter to families, first of all, wants to be a prayer to Crist, tostay in
each family. It is cal for Him, to be in
each big family of nations through small family of parents and children.
So we all could say with him „Our Fat-
her“ (Letter to families, 4). The dearly appleal by Holy Father to all
of us is to prove in truht to Say „Our Fat-
her“. It is the key to solve all the problems of the world, both the problems concer-
ning particular life of individuals as well as conglicts amongst people and nations.
It is also the key to spousal love... The
spousal love requires absolute giving. The one´s gift is absolute if and only if the man
owns himself and lives in true about him-
self. It is just the truth about the fact that each man is the God´s child is the key to
relative premarital coexistence; it is the
keystone for preservation of premarital pu-rity.
But many people, even unbelievers are
not fully aware of the fact that the God is
our Father. Many of them do not deny the existan-
ce of God, but their God doesn´t have the character of father.
There are people who do not know
what does “the father” mean. The crisis of current family is too often caused by the
absence of father.
Fatherhood is in danger in human be-ing and also in God! Everyone deserves to
have a father, who we can admire and
trust to…
…How can we find a role model of fa-
ther´s love on this earth? Fatherhood is confirmed by the child. Not only father
should accept the child, but also child
should accept his or her father and acknowledge father…
How is it possible to say in truth “Our
Father” in such world? Pope gives us sim-ple advice to pray as Crist thaughet you:
“Our Father”and he adds: “pray in truth” – in truth of this pray. It is a big request,
indeed how can we heap love on all fami-
lies in the world, and thus all the people? How can we forgive and accept everything?
And Holy Fater offers the world just
this concept – pray, pray like this:” Fa-ther”, “Our Father” – father of mine, yours,
His and all of us. Pray, although you do
not know what does it mean, or you do not understand, because just through this
pray may come understanding to you.
A child does not have to understand his father, it is enough to trust him. Our
world is missing the trust. There is too many hard knocks, too much treason.
Therefore pray more. If you do not under-
stand, let pray others someone else as long as the mercy comes to you.
What inhibits a father to pray with and
infront of the kids? Fathers, do not know
this answer, they often say: “We somehow stopped praying.”
However, if we manage to join all to-gether, who are at home and peruade
them to pray together, everything will
change once, because their love will grow. Often it is very difficult to break up barri-
ers, which have unknown orgin. These
barriers can be caused by tiredness, rush, false shyness and timidity and finally
pride. Today´s man has to overcome many
barriers to be able to kneel down by their kids, as he used to do before, and say to-
gether with them “Our Father”. Not too well he is able to do it alone somewhere in
angle, but not infront of kids noway in-
front of adult son. But it is just about this gesture, to kneel down infront of God,
about your testimony that you believe.
Many times, each believer has repeated “Our Father”, but Holy Father wants to
say that, but in a different way – in truth! Thoughts are taken from the book:
For families, to be strong in God…,
Wanda Póltawska (SALI-FOTO, 2010).
FOR FAMILIES, TO BE STRONG IN GOD…
...A child does not have to understand his father,
it is enough to trust him...

No one can confirm exactly how
many wondrous and miraculous heal-ings have happened in the parish of Medjugorje since Our Lady first ap-
peared to the children in 1981. But the Medjugorje parish alone has rec-orded over six hundred. There are
healings from the most serious dis-eases, the disappearance of visible
wounds, and other similar m i r a c l e s .
Among these n u m e r o u s healings some
are thoroughly researched, sci-
entifically and theologically, so there‟s no
reason to ques-tion their su-
pernatural na-ture. One of these unex-
plained healings was experienced by a fifty-year-old American man, Arthur Boyle from Hingham in Boston, who
was a step away from dying. He had kidney cancer which had spread to
the lungs – doctors had given up on him and predicted an imminent death.
“In 1999 I was diagnosed with can-cer. At first I had kidney cancer and
the doctors performed surgery. They removed one kidney and I thought that this operation would solve every-
thing. Eight months later I went back for a check-up and they found three tumors in my right lung. They gave
me less than a five percent chance of survival. Radiation didn‟t help, nor
chemotherapy… there remained only an operation to remove the lung itself. At that time my best friend asked me
whether I had heard about Medjugor-je. I remembered then that ten years
before, my daughter, who studied
medicine, had brought from Medju-gorje a book called The Messages of Medjugorje and given it to her mother – my wife. My wife used to read the messages and I didn‟t pay much at-
tention. But as my friend had men-tioned Medjugorje, I asked my wife,
„What exactly is there in Medjugorje, what can you tell me about
this place?‟ So she told
me all about the prayer, love, peace,
healing. A week later, three of us –
I, my wife‟s sister‟s hus-
band Kevin Gill, and a friend Robert
Griffin – took a plane and came to Medjugorje."
After a long journey Arthur, with severe lung cancer, arrived in Medju-gorje and went immediately to the
church of St. James for the evening mass. There was a large crowd in the church and he joined in the praying of
the rosary. During the rosary they were singing „Ave Maria‟ and he no-
ticed that all were singing with their whole heart. In a certain way he was touched by this and it gave him
strength. On the following day he went to confession along with his
friends. They found a priest who, they said, was very helpful. After the con-fession, all Arthur's depression and
sadness left him. He was like a new person. Then they went to a Medju-gorje jewelry shop and there unex-
pectedly met the visionary Vicka. Tell-ing her about Arthur's illness, Vicka
prayed over him, which was for Ar-

thur a very important and powerful
experience. Finally they decided to go up mount Krizevac, Cross mountain.
“It was a rainy day. Whilst I was
walking up I was very tired, and felt severe pain which was getting worse and worse... my chest was hurting as
never before. We reached the top and there we were alone, just the three of
us. We prayed with our whole hearts to God, to forgive us our sins, and that He would help me to heal. We,
three grown men, were crying, pray-ing. Then I called my wife, because I felt, as did my friends, that something
strange was happening to me right there on the mountain. She told me
that the surgery to remove my right lung had been arranged for four days after my return from Medjugorje. I
asked my wife whether she could ar-range with the doctors a check-up for
me, once I was back in America, to see the status of the cancer. Shortly after this, the assistant of the doctor
who was going to perform the surgery called me and said, „Mr. Boyle, we know that you are in Medjugorje and
we know why you‟re there. It's admi-rable. But you have cancer and it
doesn't disappear just like that, be-
lieve me. I assure you that we will have to do the surgery.‟ After this
phone call my wife contacted another doctor.
When I got home I said that God
had healed me, healed my heart, that I was healed spiritually. Everything that was rotten and unhealthy within
me, I threw it out during that confes-sion in Medjugorje. I told them every-
thing. Whilst I was talking, there was peace, the peace which I had brought back from Medjugorje. And everything
I said was later confirmed by the new doctor who did new tests. I went to
visit the new doctor whom my wife had contacted and I brought him the old and new films. He told me to wait
five minutes and then he called me into his surgery room. He rubbed his chin and looked confused. He told me
that the cancer had simply disap-peared. There is no cancer any more.
We called the other doctors who were to do the surgery and told them about it. Finally, after much surprise, all of
them accepted that the cancer had gone.”

On March 22nd in Latvia ( Riga )
and on March 23rd in Lithuania ( Tur-geliai ) there was the annual prayer meeting in the spirit of the messages of
Our Lady of Medjugorje. Believers of these countries met together to con-
secrate the day to God by being in the school of Our Lady. The group from
Belarus had joined them as well. Our heavenly Mama again gathered her children and united them in a spirit of
love and prayer. At the meetings, we learned how to
apply what Our Lady in Medjugorje te-aches us to our daily lives. By giving
five key messages, Mary invites us to materialize two of them every day. It is
prayer with the heart and reading
Scripture. The meeting started by praying the
Rosary. “When you pray the Rosary,” Our Lady says “I take your hand and I
lead you to my Son.” By contemplating the joyful and sorrowful mysteries of
the Rosary, we tried to contemplate the life of Jesus and Mary. The bass reliefs
on top of Podbrdo display each myste-ry of the rosary and help us to imagine the events of each mystery.
Our Lady of Medjugorje also invites us to contemplate the word of God. In
her messages Our Lady often points out how important it is to read Scrip-
ture, meditate on it and live it in our

lives. She even today repeats the words
said to the servants at the wedding fe-ast of Cana: “Do whatever he tells
you” (Jn 2:5). She wants us to learn to read and fulfill the Word of Her Son. At
the meeting we meditate on a verse from the Gospel of John when Jesus
speaks with the Samaritan woman who came to draw water from Jacob's well (John 4).
The testimonies from father Peter, Veronica, Stephen and Therese from
Slovakia and Arthur from Latvia hel-ped us to understand better how to li-
ve Our Lady's messages in daily life. There was also the chance to make a
confession and with a pure heart meet
Jesus in the sacrament of the Holy Eu-
charist. The culmination of the mee-ting was Holy Mass and Adoration led
by Father Peter. We would like to especially thank
Father Peter for joining the meeting and for giving his example of a true shepherd who leads his sheep to Je-
sus. The prepared presentation with pho-
tos of Medjugorje and Medjugorje songs that were very deeply and ten-
derly interpreted by youth from Dau-gavpils, helped participants.
We thank wholeheartedly all partici-
pants and organizers of the prayer me-eting!
Several impressions of participants :
ment was the confession. And yet I under-stood one interesting thing. The word
“amazing” in Slovak means the complete
opposite of the Russian significance -
“terrible”. If I have to say a few words
about the recent meeting in Slovak, I can
say the meeting was amazing.” (Irina,
Latvia) Pictures from the meeting in Riga can

“This meeting is rest for
the soul, like a recovery. The testimonies were parti-cularly important for me. They deeply touched the soul, by purifying and hea-ling. At the time of the mee-ting, I felt a special close-
ness to Jesus.” (Jadviga,
Lithuania)
“This meeting was for
me God's embrace, the clo-seness of Our Lady heart who wipes our tears. The fruit of the meeting is a de-sire in my heart to work over my personal conver-sion and to seek salvation for others. For a long time I could feel the blessing of father Peter, his slow procession with the Bles-sed Sacrament and the unforgettable voice of Theressa - the voice of her he-
art.” ( Aukse, Lithuania )
“I have already attended several mee-
tings of Medjugorje, but the last meeting in Riga was extraordinary. It's difficult to ex-plain why. Probably because of the sense of unity and peaceful joy felt by many par-ticipants.Two moments were the fruit of this meeting. First, I had a feeling as if I had looked at many things through the veil and it fell down now and the second mo-

FEAST of the Divine Mercy, April 27th, 2014
Novena to the Feast of Divine Mercy begins
April 18th on Good Friday.
“Be apostles of Divine Mercy under Mary's motherly and kind leadership”
(Pope John Paul II , June 22nd 1993)
John Paul II introduced the celebration of the Divine Mer-cy Sunday as a holiday for the whole Church. This holiday is celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. John Paul II
said about this day: “This is the happiest day of my life”.
“Pray to my faithful servant to tell the whole world about my great mercy on this day. Those who approach the Fount of Life on this day, obtains complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. Humanity does not find peace until it turns
with confidence to my mercy.” (Diary, 300)
“The feast came from the inside of my mercy and it is confirmed in the depths of my mercy. Every soul who believes and
trusts in my mercy, will receive it.” (Diary, 420)
“My daughter, look into the abyss of my mercy and praise and honor my mercy. Do it like this - take all the sinners of the whole world and immerse them in the abyss
of my mercy. I wish to give out myself to souls, I desire souls, my daughter. On this feast, the Feast of Mercy, go through the whole world and bring fainted souls
to the fountain of my mercy. I will heal and strengthen them.” (Diary, 206)
“At about three o'clock beg for my mercy, especially for sinners, and at least for a short time immerse yourself into my Passion, meditate especially on my abandonment
at the moment of dying. It is the hour of great mercy for the whole world. I will allow you to penetrate into my mortal sorrow. In this hour I will not refuse
the soul, which begs me for my passion...” (Diary, 1320)
“Every soul that will pray the chaplet at the hour of death I will defend as my own glory. If a soul is dying and others pray for him or her,
they will reach the same indulgences.” (Diary, 811)
