Dearest Renaissance res-idents, family members, and staff,

Can you believe it is already September? This marks the beginning of the seventh month of battle against

the Coronavirus as a nation, but it also brings us the winds of needed change. We have so much long-awaited and exciting news to share with you all! Your team here at Renaissance has done such an incredible job with keeping you, our beloved residents, safe from the Coronavi-rus since its onset. The Renaissance staff is tru-ly worthy of applause for their tireless efforts, dedication, and determination to upholding our infection control standards and protocols keeping the virus well at bay. I am also so very proud of our residents for their patience and understanding through it all.

On Wednesday, August 26th, we have under-

gone our latest wave of all-staff COVID testing with amazing results! I am proud to announce that not a single member of our staff tested positive! This is truly a testimony to their ded-ication not only at work, but also in their per-sonal lives to keep us all safe. The Department of Health team will be testing all residents in our community on Thursday, September 3rd. We will continue to test our staff every other Wednesday. The next wave will be on Wednes-day, September 9th and we will be sure to let you all know of the results.

I can clearly see how the morale and emotion-al well-being of our residents is steadily im-proving with the successful re-opening of our dining room and small group activities. At the end of the day we are human, and desperately need to interact with one another in order to thrive. That being said, I am so very excited to announce that we will be re-opening our beau-ty salon effective Monday, August 31st. We feel that this is a life essential service that helps

our residents to look and feel their best. The leadership team has been able to plan and pro-duce a safe method of accomplishing this for you. National Assisted Living Week is Septem-ber 13th through the 19th and we have tons of fun plans each day that we want to encourage all our residents and staff to participate in.

Mark our amazing pianist will be returning to entertain us again very soon. We are ironing out the final details of the plan as we speak. Our safe visitation stations should also be back up and running beginning the second week of September so that you can schedule in-per-son visits with your loved ones. We are also offering a free college course to our residents from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. Residents will be able to enjoy this stimulating class on music history presented by Maestro Bernhardt through Zoom video conferences. Discussion topics will include music reflection, classical film, and music to guide us through these uncharted waters. These classes will be available every Friday beginning in October.

We are holding a charity fundraiser to bene-fit the Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Association of Vero Beach. We are raffling several amazing gift baskets. All proceeds will go directly to this meaningful cause. Please reach out to Nicole or Vontrell for more information on our raffle or to make a donation.

As you all know, this is Florida, and we are in our hurricane season once again. I just want to assure you all that the leadership team watches carefully for any disturbances that may evolve into something more well ahead of time. We are so fortunate that our community is an abso-

lute fortress built to the latest hurricane codes and far beyond! As always, the safety of our residents and staff, is our priority and I want you to know that you will never be alone in any troublesome situation. The leadership team has extremely thorough plans that are ready to execute at a moment’s notice. We will be sure to update you and your family members of our plans ahead of time should the weather become concerning.

I know how completely frustrating, draining, and abnormal this entire experience has been for all of you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so patient and understand-ing of our efforts to keep you all safe amongst this pandemic. We have learned and grown so much each day that we battled this virus, how-ever we must stay cautious, careful, and smart-er than it. We will continue to use our BEST practices to shield each of us from this invisible enemy. I am so proud of you all as our residents, staff, and devoted family members. We are the Renaissance family! We will persevere. We will not give up. We are protected by our Lord. We will be victorious and through God’s grace we will see even better times soon ahead!

I leave you all with a Bible verse that grants us all peace, hope, and courage.

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceas-es; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Resident of the Month

Bobby Joe Hiers was born on July 11, 1940 in rural Georgia. He moved to Sebastian, Flor-ida in 1958 where he met and mar-ried the love of his life, Mary Frances. Together, they had

four daughters, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Through-out their life, Bobby and Frances start-ed and presided over several businesses, many still prospering today. Bobby was a proud and successful businessman who showered his family and friends with his generosity.

Bobby’s fondest memories would be times spent with his loved ones, either boating in the Bahamas onboard his trea-sured “Knight Rider,” or trekking to the mountains to his beloved North Carolina cabin. He seldom relaxed, but he found diversion from the day’s stresses in his home away from home in Islamorada, Florida. Bobby loved to entertain and his friends and family were often the benefi-ciaries of his good humor, engaging per-sonality, and zest for life.

Bobby was a prominent fig-ure within our community. He was in-volved in local politics, real estate de-velopment, and numerous companies big and small. He had a genuine flair for business and was well respected in that realm. Bobby was characterized as out-spoken and direct but loyal and humble to the core.

Among his many lifelong accomplish-ments, Bobby was a devoted fraternal member of the Masons. He was a past Worshipful Master of the Sebastian Lodge, a member of the Azan temple, and the Royal Order of the Jesters. Bob-by shined brightest through his philan-thropy as a “Shriner,” where he would move mountains to help children in need of medical services.

Bobby is a hero in the eyes of many but none more than his doting daughters. “He is our devoted Dad, our protector, and our best friend.”

Written with all our love...

A Vero Beach native, Ashely came to us as a part time nurse and has fallen head over heels for our residents.

She loves the movie The Notebook and the

TV show Big Bang Theory! If she could, she would love to meet Chris Hemsworth and travel to Italy to see where her ancestors grew up! When she’s not here with us at

Renaissance, you can find her fishing, read-ing or doing anything and everything “out-doorsy.” She is NOT a fan of spiders but grew up outside working with horses and working with her hands. Her daughter is her hero and she hopes she can be a hero to her, too!

We are so happy that Ashely is a part of our Renaissance family! Thank you for being our hero.
