Primary Multitalent Day (Reported by Pn Amalia)

Sri Tenby has many students with varied talents, abilities and interest.

Multitalent is a day where students are able to showcase what they have learned through their participations during the four Academic Weeks held earlier on in the year.

The Primary Multitalent Day was held on Tuesday, 3rd November from 13:00hrs – 14:20hrs in EPC

It was a celebration of the children’s unique talents and skills at which they truly excelled. With the guidance of excellent teachers, they presented all their showcases to their proud parents and guests.

There were traditional fashion show, show and tell, poetry recitals, storytelling, speech and drama presenta-tion, slide presentation and Mathematics model display.

It was truly a great afternoon of performances and a proud moment to all parents and teachers.

SPORTS

U15 Boys Volleyball Team earned Bronze medal at ISAC League

Under 13 Boys & Girls Football Team

The boys comfortably won their opening two matches without dropping a set. Some great serving runs from Max and Yu Hang in separate sets helped propel the boys to victory.

Into the third place playoffs we headed. The first game was won easily after some good serves from Justin and Yan Ze. The second seemed to cause more problems with the sight of bronze looming. However the opposition continued to gift the boys points whilst several players held their serves for Tenby. The win and third place was secured without dropping a set.

A great effort with some excellent volleyball.

Last Wednesday our U13 Boys football team progressed into the final round of the KLISS league.

Tenby team went from strength to strength as the evening progressed. Building on their previous games together, they began to develop their team understanding and were playing some fantastic football by the end of evening.

Well done for making it through to the final.

Under 15 Boys and Girls Football Teams

After the difficult experience of our earlier tournament on home turf we travelled to BSKL with a revi-talized, squad. In the first game against HELP we conspired to miss at least 6 golden scoring oppor-tunities before losing to our opponents only shot. Frustrated, but in the knowledge that our perfor-mance deserved more.

In the next game against an ISP team who had already beaten us this season, the duck was broken with an early goal followed by a winner in the second half straight from the training ground!

The final game saw us as underdogs against BSKL. Outstanding goals and a defensive perfor-mance that limited our opponents to one shot saw us come away with a great 2-1 victory. No individ-uals named because every one of the 11 girls played and contributed greatly to the team’s perfor-mance and success. Well done girls, you represented Tenby brilliantly. Now on to the finals!

The U15 boys finally played their first fixture of the term and with very little training due to the haze and storms. It was always going to be an interesting affair. The team has a massive amount of potential and I was excited by the prospect of the KLISS tournament. After placing HELP under a lot of pres-sure throughout the game we were unlucky 1-0. Trying to avoid the expected head drop after some bad luck, we started brightly against ISP, but once again were unlucky to go 1-0 down in the first half. We remained composed and managed to draw back 1 goal, followed by an excellent solo goal from Gurshan to give us the win. We struggled with injuries throughout the event and by the final game we had no subs left after starting the day with 5. We held out and looked strong against BSKL gaining a 0-0 draw, this gave us a total of 4 points and put us through to the final finishing 2nd. Notable performances from Nadeem, Gurshan and Raaj in goal. Great result. Well done.

Gold & Silver Medals at ISAC League

Saturday 31st October was the day that Tenby U15’s Boys Football team attended the ISAC Final. An outstanding day and a great performance from the team.

So when we don’t believe in ourselves and other schools also believe we will not succeed then that is usually how the reality pans out. But on that day, no one expected something different to happen…

We were to play a round robin tournament, most points wins. The other schools included Garden, Alice Smith, ISP and MKIS, so a particularly strong field of opponents. We began the day against ISP who we had just played on the previous Thursday and won 2-1 in a tough, hard fought match.

On Saturday we dominated from start to finish with a relentless pressure and deservedly we won 3 – 0. Excellent goals from Daffa, Ranveer and also an own goal engineered by Ranveer. Next, we played Alice Smith who were arguably one of the stronger teams in the tournament. Again, we dominated in a tough game.

We hit the crossbar, post and had several opportunities squandered. We were unlucky to only come away with a point from a 0 – 0 draw. But compared to previous years this was a great result. Our next game proved to be even tougher against Garden in which we played well but did not dominate. Several chances were wasted but our defense remained impeccable as even commented by the Garden coach. Before our final game we had a 1 game break, we needed the 2 games scores to go our way, which luckily for us they did.

That meant in the final game we must win 3-0 against MKIS, however, providing Garden did not score anymore. Playing at the same time meant I had to relay any score changes to the team in order for us to score more.

Garden won 2-0 meaning we had to win 5-0. We achieved this with only 30 seconds left to play and the moment the boys knew they had done it was quite a sight to see.

Tenby 3 – 0 ISP (Daffa, Ranveer, OG); Tenby 0 – 0 KLASS; Tenby 0 – 0 GIS; Tenby 5 – 0 MKIS (Daffa x2, Jay Ren x2, Shawn)

A huge congratulations to the boys. I am extremely proud of them. Well done.

U13 Boys.

The U13 Boys Tournament was held at Tenby and we opened our account with a 0-0 draw against ISKL, the strongest team in our pool. They had previously beaten ISBK 1-0. Our next match would determine who progressed alongside ISKL. Fortune sometimes favours the bold. We changed our defensive approach and sneaked a goal against the run of play. A passage of strong play from Navjoth ended with him finishing coolly. The game ended 1-1 with a very late equaliser from BSKL but that was enough to send us through to the semi finals.

Nexus were our next opponents. They had topped their group and demonstrated some excellent finishing. They looked strong.

Back we went to our defensive strategy. We also invited Nit and Saurav into the starting line up and they instantly made a difference. We should have taken the lead but the chance was blocked.

Down the other end Chris made yet another important save and the half ended 0-0. Semi finals are often tight games and so it proved. 0-0 at the final whistle and into penalties.

Cometh the hour, cometh Chris – again! After both teams scored their first 2 penalties Chris stood tall and parried away their 3rd. Over to Sacheev. Although visibly shaking at the thought of taking such an important penalty, he composed himself and struck an unstoppable effort into the roof of the net.

The final beckoned. A medal was secured. We'd reached the final scoring 1 goal and drawing 3 games.

Chris had been immense.

Our opponents in the final were Alice Smith. They were a class above the rest of the teams and deserved their gold medals. But Tenby, who were not given a chance will be remembered as the team who achieved the most on that hot, sunny, ‘hazeless’ morning.

Well done Tenby.

National Leadership Symposium

Alesha Wong

On the 24-25th October 2015, five of our most active MUN-ers took Model United Nations to the next lev-el by attending the United Nations Association Malaysia, National Leadership Symposium at Islamic In-ternational University Malaysia.

Syuen, Wan Ting, Ryan, Timothy, and I (Alesha) had the privilege of spending two full days with five lead-ers from 27 education institutions from as far as Pe-nang, Sabah, Kedah and the Klang Valley.

There we gained valuable insights from inspirational high profile speakers on topics such as Human Rights & Activism; The Role of Social Media; Entre-preneurship and Innovation; Leadership and Perse-verance.

Additionally, all 135 participants competed in 'Project Pitching' competition. All participants were split into groups of 3-4 people. Together, they had to identify a problem with social impact, find a creative and inno-vative solution and pitch it to a panel of judges con-sisting of four UNAM associates. The top three teams would receive seed money from UNAM to im-plement their solution!

I am proud to announce that two teams (Alesha's and Ryan's team) with a delegate from Tenby each, were shortlisted to the top 5 finalist for this national competition! After the final round of pitching, my team of won 3rd place and received RM750 worth of seed money to implement our project which was to assist children in poor communities to receive better eye care.

Tenby also officially launched our UN Youth Chapters in conjunction with the United Nations Association Malaysia. As a result, Tenby will be able to organise events with the assistance of UNAM where possible.

The Student Council at Tenby has come up with a Code of Conduct for students who travel on the school vans. This will be placed in all of the vans and all students will be expected to behave in accordance with this whilst travelling on the vans. We are very lucky to have a group of drivers who are keen to work with the school and who are very willing to accept advice. The vans will be checked regularly with regards to seatbelts and safety and students are expected to wear seatbelts at all times.

Jimmy Chong

Drum Teacher, Tenby Schools

Being the youngest of five brothers and the son of a businessman, it seemed that Jimmy Chong would be destined to follow in the footsteps of his elders. Except he has decided to blaze his own trail with countless performances around the world in numerous countries including Singapore, China, Taiwan, United States, Maldives, France and many more.

Primarily a drummer with a piano upbringing, Jimmy first cut his teeth in 2003 as the drummer of the Malay-sian indie band "NAO". He was responsible for playing drums for songs, which defied easy categorization. His accomplishments in "NAO" include performing locally as well as in China where the band was invited to per-form twice for the Midi Music Festival held in Beijing. Whilst Jimmy is no longer playing for the band, his unique drumming can still be heard on their debut al-bum and subsequent EP.

Despite already having a Grade 8 certification in practi-cal piano (ABRSM), Jimmy's never-ending desire to improve oneself led him to earn a music degree at Wol-verhampton University where he learnt and cultivated other skills that make up a well-rounded musician such as composition, arranging and production.

His composition and arranging skills can be heard in the music for videogames such as Smart Fish Aquarium and Gridiator and the Chinese song "This Is Not A Dream" for singer Ludwig Lim's debut album. His produc-tion skills can also be heard on arguably the first ever Maldivian Jazz album; Shambe's debut Feshun, where he was also responsible for composition and drumming duties. A live concert to celebrate the album's launch in 2011 was held in MALE, the capital of Maldives where it was well received.

In order to feed his need for adventure and challenge, Jimmy joined the renowned percussion team known as HANDS in 2007 where he learnt a great deal of Far Eastern drumming and also incorporated Western drum-ming techniques into HANDS' rigorous routines. His tenure with HANDS led him to perform in France, Hawaii, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia and Turkmenistan. The experience he has gained from being widely traveled shows in his conversations and outlook on life.

After playing with HANDS extensively for four years, Jimmy decided to take a break from touring overseas and is polishing up his drum chops by sessioning locally. The artistes he has played for include Germany's Chicks on Speed, Yu Heng, Ling Jia Jun, Wen Li Ming, John Wee, Wang Ming Li and many more. He has al-so sessioned abroad in Macao as part of the pop band "MONTUNO" where he plied his trade for 8 months.

In his spare time, Jimmy also likes to engage in experimental and avant garde music. A highlight of such en-deavors has been his collaboration with the famous local composer, Ng Chor Guan in the Polka Dot Play-ground where he plays eclectic percussion alongside Ng's Theremin.

Currently, Jimmy's main focus is drumming for the sensational new band Platform 11 and his well-honed grooves can be heard on their debut album as well as at future live performances.

Jimmy is well versed in multiple music genres as well as languages and can be found cheekily infusing a jazz song with rock grooves during practice sessions when the situation calls for it.
