Did Ya Know? Bowling Green, KY: the pioneers decided that the new town would be "called and known by the name of Bolin Green." This name was after the Bowling Green Square in New York City, where patriots had pulled down a statue of King George III and used the lead to make bullets during the American Revolution.

Corvette of the Month

By Donovan Gregory

As a boy growing up I have often thought about cars and one day being able to drive one. As many young men do; I took after my dad for my love of vehicles. My dad was smart and was a huge Chevy fan with his favorite car being a Corvette. I told myself a long time ago that I would get one with him and we could work on it together. Unfortunately one year after I had joined the Navy my dad passed away of a massive heart attack. I then decided that I would stop at nothing until I got a Corvette and completed our dream and dedicate the car to him.

I am now the proud owner of a 2000 Sebring Silver Corvette Coupe. I bought it at "Chevrolet of Puyallup" in May of 2012 for twenty grand completely stock. I now have installed an after-market stereo system including a custom-built box with a ten inch subwoofer. For extra power I have added a cold air intake, after-market Mass Air Flow Sensor, throttle body insert, 10mm racing wires and quad spark plugs, a Remus racing exhaust with cut-outs and an aggressive dyno-tune from Max RPM. After all of the power adders, I am making 355 RWHP. Oh, and let’s not forget the most important thing, I have a very nice radar detector.

Driving my 'Vette is so amazing, it brings a thrill every time I get behind the wheel and run through the gears (very quickly I might add). I love driving all around and it doesn’t matter where; when you have a Corvette you don’t drive to go somewhere, you drive to have fun somewhere. During the summer I spend my time racing at Bremerton Speedway, I love to drag race and just race in general. My best run at the track was a 13.21 secs in the quarter mile. Due to the increase in horse power, I am unable to hook up very well with my stock run-flats, so I am unable to get decent traction. On a side note, while drag racing I fish-tale to the right and have to let off the gas, then when I hit 76 mph and shift into third I still chirp the tires. Well there is always next season with some bigger and stickier tires.

I have met some really amazing people now that I have my 'Vette and look forward to spending time and getting to know them and their cars more too. If it wasn’t for the GOCC, I never would have met my lovely girlfriend Rose. It just goes to show you, that these cars are some amazing

chic magnets, lol. I look forward to all the many wonderful memories that I will have with my new friends. And I owe it all to that powerful All-American sports car that we have come to admire and love, the Corvette. Thank you Chevy for bringing me all this fun, friendship and love. Until next time "keep driving my friends."

The Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas and out in the garage,

There wasn’t a trace of a Honda, Toyota, or Dodge. The presents were wrapped and the lights were all lit, So I figured I’d mess with my classic Corvette for a bit.

I popped the release and lifted the hood, When a deep voice behind me said “looks pretty good.”

Well, as you can imagine, I turned mighty quick, And there, by the workbench, stood good ol Saint Nick!

We stood there a bit, not too sure what to say, Then he said “don’t suppose that you’d trade for my sleigh?

“No way, Santa” I said with a grin, “But if you’ve got the time we can go for a spin!”

His round little mouth, all tied up like a bow, Turned into a smile and he said “Sure! Let’s go!!”

So as not to disturb all the neighbors’ retreat, We quietly pushed the Vette out to the street, Then, taking our places to coast down the hill,

I turned on the key and I let the clutch spill. The sound that erupted took him quite by surprise,

But he liked it a lot, by the look in his eyes. With tires a’ screaming and side pipes aglow,

We headed on out to where the hot rodders go. And Santa’s grin widened, approaching his ears,

With every shift up as I banged through the gears. Then he yelled “can’t recall when I’ve felt so alive!”

So I backed off the gas and asked Santa if he wanted to drive. Ol Santa was stunned when I gave him the keys,

When he walked past the headlights he shook at the knees! The Corvette exploded with side exhaust sound!

And when Santa let out the clutch and the tires shook the ground!

Power shift into second, again into third! I sat there just watching, at loss for a word,

Then I heard him exclaim as we blasted from sight, “Merry Christmas to all, it’s one hell of a night!!!”

Top 10 Detailing Mistakes From /drive: (http://slashdrive.tv/) 10 Never add silicones or slippery products to your rubber floor mats. The greasy film will get on the bottom of your shoes and potentially the gas/brake pedals. 9. Avoid using car or dish soap on interior carpets. It’s very difficult to completely remove the soap suds and it can cause mildew. Use a interior foam cleaner or designated interior cleaner. No soaps!

8. Avoid solvent based tire dressing as they are harmful to your rubber, the environment, and will cause tire “sling”. Use a water based tire dressing or gel for reduced tire sling and rubber maintenance. 7. Washing your car with terry towels (clean or dirty) will completely destroy your paint and should be avoided at all costs. Use a soft wash mitt with a quality car soap. 6 Glass is the most frustrating part of the car to clean. Be sure to use the right microfiber window cloth and avoid spraying the window cleaner on the door panels and dashboard, as it has a tendency to leave drip marks in the surface from the chemicals in the cleaner. It is common to redo windows multiple times to get them clean. Try to stay out of direct sunlight when cleaning windows to minimize premature drying and streaking. 5. Do not wipe your car with a “paper-towel” or anything other than a clean, soft, microfiber towel and a spray wax. 4. Avoid using dish soap or cheap car soaps, unless you want to remove the wax from the surface of your paint. (for paint restoration or polishing) Otherwise use a soft and safe soap that does not damage or remove the existing layers of protection. 3. Don’t forget to double check your work when you think you’re done. Walk around the car with spray wax and a detailing brush to remove dried up wax. 2. Never add a greasy film to the surface of your dashboard as it causes reflections that can be distracting while driving. Its can also generate unwanted heat in the material because the greasy film creates a “green house” affect. (Trapping heat and drying out your interior surface.) 1. NEVER use the same bucket and wash mitt on the wheels and the paint. Be sure to have designated tools and products for each area. 1a. Be sure to use a grit guard in all of your buckets to help remove dirt and contaminates from your wash mitt. It also helps keep dirt at the bottom of the bucket and away from the wash mitt as its dunked in the bucket for re-application. 1b. Avoid using car dusters, but if you must, be sure to light swipe the surface of the paint. Do not put heavy pressure on the duster. It is safest to use a spray wax and a microfiber towels for dust removal.

Corvette Bucket List Many of us over the years have come to the conclusion that we should experience some of the good things in life before we kick the bucket. Most likely that is why we own one or more Corvettes. Along with owning a Corvette, is the desire to see more Corvettes and enrich the experience by racing them, going to rallies, and associating with those who appreciate the fine qualities of "America's Sports Car". Thus over the next few months we will list events and venues where we are sure to see Corvettes and their owners in their natural habitat.

Bloomington Gold

This is truly the one and only Corvette exposition that has it all. The Bloomington Gold phenomenon began in 1973 in Bloomington, Illinois the same way so many iconic automotive events were born. There are many, many Corvette shows being held from coast to coast throughout the year but Bloomington Gold is without question the premier Corvette wingding. Thousands of Corvettes and Corvette owners will gather for this four-day bash and every year Corvette, beginning with its first year of production in 1953, right up to the most recent issue, will be duly represented. In 2014, the event will be held at The University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois from June 27-29.

Corvettes at Carlisle The annual Corvettes at Carlisle event features more than 5,000 Corvettes representing all generations of America’s classic sports car. Corvette enthusiasm is contagious with participation in autocross, burnouts and the parade through historic downtown Carlisle. In addition to a Corvette giveaway, it includes a huge swap meet with a wide variety of vendors, an all-Corvette car corral, Manufacturers Midway and Installation Alley. Registration for the 2014 Corvettes at Carlisle is open! Register online or call 717-243-7855 today. Pre-registration discounts are available now through July 21, 2014. - See more at: http://www.carlisleevents.com/carlisle-events/corvettes-at-carlisle/default.aspx#sthash.N4doHAkt.dpuf
