The tour starts from the hotel and includes all cities' major landmarks. The participants have the opportunity to walk the streets of historic Dubrovnik, to feel the cities' vibrant life, to see its palaces and monuments, to visit some of its museums (Rector's Palace, the Cathedral and its Treasury, the Dominican and the Franciscan Monasteries with their museums and collections). The Franciscan Monastery was built in the transitional Romanesque-Gothic style and its lofty interior (reputed once to have had ceiling paintings by Titian) was completely reconstructed after the Great Earthquake of 1667.

The Old Pharmacy, located inside the Franciscan monastery, was opened in 1317. It is the third oldest pharmacy in Europe, but the only one still working. The inventories, ceramics, bowls, laboratory equipment and old medical books of the old Pharmacy are kept in the Franciscan Monastery Museum, among other highly valued and priceless objects of Dubrovnik's historic and cultural past.

The Franciscan monastery's library possesses 30,000 volumes, 22 incunabula, 1,500 valuable handwritten documents. The well-labeled exhibits include a 15th century silver-gilt cross and silver thurible, an 18th century crucifix from Jerusalem in mother-of-pearl on olive wood, an martyrology (1541) by Bemardin Gucetić (Gozze) and illuminated Psalters. Among the pictures is one of Ruđer Bošković painted in London in 1760, and a painting showing the town before the earthquake. There will be much more to see in this aristocratic city bound with many tales and legends.

The City Walls of Dubrovnik are among the finest and most complete in Europe. They protected the freedom of Dubrovnik Republic for centuries. They surround the entire Old City with their 1940 meters of length and up to 25 meters of height. The whole City Wall complex was built from the 8th until the 16th century, consisting of an inner and outer section. There are five bastions, 3 circular and 12 square and rectangular towers, two corner towers, and one huge fortress.

The outer section of City Walls consists of a lower wall, having 10 semicircular bastions built by the famous Italian architect Michelozzo. The town is defended by two more separate fortresses, Revelin on the eastern side and Lovrijenac on the southwest side. The moat ran around the outside section of the City Walls.

Today, these unique ramparts are the major landmarks of Dubrovnik. The tour requires a lot of walking including steps and offers a splendid view on the cities' roofs, the sea and the islands. After the tour participants shall visit a gallery and a gift shop with an excellent opportunity to buy a valuable and discounted piece of art or just a small souvenir. Refreshment is offered in the gallery (choice of soft drinks or brandies and appetizers). The best thing to do after the tour is to enjoy the city on your own – to explore by yourself, to enjoy drinks at one of the numerous side cafes, to hunt for souvenirs or to do some shopping. Included: coach, local guides in English, entrance fees to the museums, entrance fees to the city walls. Flat and comfortable shoes and clothes recommended. Duration: between 4 and 4 and half hours.

Price: 50 EUR (incl. entrance fees)

Excursion 5: Tuesday, May 23 – A TALE OF SILK, 9.00 – 16.00 (Minimum 10 persons) After breakfast, embark the coach and depart for Konavle region. Visit the home of a local family that produces silk in the old, traditional way. Silk is one of the oldest textile fibers known to mankind. During the Roman Empire, it was sold for its weight in gold. Here, in Konavle valley, south of Dubrovnik, women keep tradition of small, non-profitable ancient handcraft of silk production. Silk thread is mostly used for embroidery of beautiful national costumes of Konavle region. Take an opportunity to share an experience of producing a silk thread in most traditional manner. Enjoy the hospitality of the village family and rediscover some of the lost values. After bidding goodbye to your hosts, drive to the village of Čilipi where you will lunch at the family estate house. Your lunch menu includes such delicacies like: Dalmatian smoked ham and olive oil-cured cheese; lamb and veal and potatoes baked under an iron bell covered with hot coals, home-made bread, seasonal mixed salad, dessert. After lunch return to your hotel by coach. Included: coach, guide, silk demonstration and instructional tools, refreshment, lunch at family house. Duration: half day.

Price: 40 EUR (incl. lunch)

Post-Conference Tours Tour 1: Thursday, May 25 - PEARLS OF MONTENEGRIAN COAST, Whole day (Minimum 30 persons) There are very few places to be compared with the natural beauties of the Bay of kotor, very often compared with to Norwegian fiords. Numerous small towns, each one full of historical and cultural monuments, come one after another. Continuing along the gulf coast, we shall visit a small town called Perast, and then take a small boat to reach the islet called "Our Lady of Škrpjel". Next one on the list of pearls is Kotor, a town well-known for its nautical tradition and the famous merchant navy of Boka Kotorska. We continue all the way up to St. Stefan. This picturesque little town is connected to the mainland by a bridge and converted into a high-category town-hotel, attracting a lot of tourists for its exclusivity. Our lunch will also be waiting us in this specific ambience. On our way back, we shall stop in Budva, one of the oldest urban centers on the Adriatic Coast. Sportswear and swimwear recommended. Accommodation Information LOCATION – Dubrovnik Riviera, CAVTAT

The city of Cavtat is situated at the very south of the Republic of Croatia; 18 kilometers from the center of Dubrovnik and only 6 kilometers from Dubrovnik International Airport.

It has a population of some 1,500 inhabitants, and is itself part of the Dubrovnik Riviera. The Cavtat area is most attractive because of the Mediterranean vegetation that covers the whole area; another advantage is unpolluted sea and a very attractive mixture of old and new architecture.

In ancient times, Cavtat was a Greek settlement known as Epidaurum, so its cultural life and historical tradition is thereby enriched.

Among the attractions of Cavtat are the Rector's Palace, the Baroque church of St. Nikola, the Franciscan monastery, Bogišić's scientific collection, the Vlaho Bukovac Art Gallery, the Račić Mausoleum, designed by the famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, archaeological sites of the pre-Slav period, city walls, the Šipun cave etc. Cavtat also offers a 7 km promenade by pine forests paths only a few meters from the sea. Cavtat is one of the rare places on the Croatian coast that can offer such harmony.
