There is no better time than the Holidays to take a little time out to get a clearer per-

spective on our lives. It’s a great time to show our gratitude by saying Thank You to

people near us; from family and friends who make up our tight-knit inner circles, to co-

workers and neighbors; from volunteers working to help bring positive changes within

our local, state, and federal government to others who help make things better for

those less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you!

It’s also a time to be thankful for countless others who choose (or chose) to serve in

dangerous jobs, sometimes in faraway places, so we can continue to live our lives in

safety and freedom, in a nation we are blessed to call home. Whether we personally

know anyone serving in our Armed Forces, law enforcement, as a firefighter or in EMS,

they are an integral part our daily lives, and all of us involved with the Craven County

GOP want to say Thank You for what you are doing or have done. Thank you for your

service!

I’ve been thinking back over 2017; partly about the Craven County Republican Party,

and how it’s continued to grow and thrive. How do I know? Well, a couple markers

have to do with new faces. People who are involved that either weren’t previously or

have come back to volunteer their time and energy. Several are serving on our Execu-

tive Board. Some others are starting a Teen Age Republicans (TARS) group. Their first

meeting is December 6th at 4:30 PM at our headquarters in New Bern. If you have or

know of a teen who might be interested please contact Caleb Myers, who is spear-

heading it, at 252-626-1853. These are just a couple of positive things happening local-

ly, and my hope is that we’ll continue to draw Republicans of all ages and backgrounds

into our Party as we venture into 2018.

Here are a few things worth noting going forward - our headquarters office, in the

Berne Square Shopping Center in New Bern is closed to the public until sometime in

Chairman’s Message

January. We’ll send out an email before we re-open, which should be before our Executive Board Meeting on

the 25th. However, if you need something or have a question you can continue to call the office number, 252

-649-0303, and after a few rings it will be forwarded to me. If I don’t pick up please leave me a message and

I’ll return your call as soon as possible.

January starts our sales campaign for our Annual Reagan Day Dinner, which will be held for the first time in

April. The weather should be more agreeable and it gives us more opportunity to sell those all-important

ads; our primary source of revenue to keep our doors open for the public around elections, meetings, and

special events. So mark your calendars now for Friday, April 6th at 6PM, at the Hilton DoubleTree in down-

town. Come out to support our Craven County Republican Party and guest speakers. Enjoy an evening in the

company of others who share many of the same views and aspirations for our county, state, and nation.

Please note that ads for the program and dinner tickets are on sale now. The sooner you book the better

seating you get, and they are limited this year. So whenever you’re ready to buy we’re ready to sell!

At the November 11th District County Chairman’s Association meeting in Cary it was stressed that Annual

Precinct Meetings, held for election of Delegates and Alternates to County Conventions, must be in February.

So please, if you are a precinct chair, email Tamara Leonard and myself as soon as your date and location is

locked in. The sooner the better, since a 3 week lead time is requested by the media, and meetings are re-

quired to be published 15 days ahead of the events.

Our annual Republican Party County Convention is set for Saturday, March 24th at 9AM, at the Craven County

Courthouse in New Bern. It’s an off elections year for Board Members but since there will be primaries in the

spring as well as Federal and State elections in the fall, I’m certain some of the candidates running will ask for

a few minutes to speak. If you want to hear from them you must be a delegate or alternate at the conven-

tion, so you need to attend your precinct meetings. If you haven’t done so before, or you live in an unor-

ganized precinct, give us a call and we’ll do our best to assist you. Please consider joining our effort to bring

us all TOGETHER! As we know, an informed voter is a powerful voter!

Again, thank you to everyone who stepped up to help keep the CC GOP moving forward throughout 2017.

We could not do the work needed to get Republicans elected locally, much less within our state or federal

government without you. We need you, and our candidates can’t win without you! Helping financially is im-

portant. Helping out with Boots on the Ground is crucial! There are 23,570 registered Republicans residing in

our county that need to be pursued before and during elections. That's a lot of hearts, minds, and possible

voters! So we’ll be reaching out to you again in 2018 to help with things like manning headquarters, perform-

ing Reverse-Walks in neighborhoods, putting out signage, and working outside the polls. There’s something

that everybody can do no matter your time restrictions!

Wishing you a joyful, peaceful, and blessed Christmas, and a New Year filled with hope and happiness.

Wreaths Across America

DEADLINE TO DONATE EXTENDED TO THIS FRIDAY December 1, 2017 at Midnight.

This year the Craven County Republican Party is one of the proud sponsors in the effort to place a

wreath on each of the 7,517 Veteran’s graves in New Bern National Cemetery.

• Wreaths Across America is the nonprofit organization that places wreaths on the graves annually

to honor those who have served. WAA does not receive any government money. Most of their

funds are from private individuals who sponsor wreaths either for Arlington, or for other partici-

pating locations in the US and US veteran’s cemeteries overseas.

• In 2016, Wreaths Across America and their national network of volunteers laid over 1.2 million me-

morial wreaths at over 1200 locations.

• 100% of the proceeds raised by Craven County GOP benefit Wreaths Across America .

As of November 3rd, New Bern National Cemetery has only 31% of the wreaths needed, which is 2,293

of the 7,517. Wreaths cost $15.00 apiece and if you purchase (2) for $30.00, New Bern National Ceme-

tery will receive a 3rd wreath for FREE.

Please take action now by going online to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org . Make certain to enter the

Location ID: NCNBNC and Fundraising Group ID: NC0203 to ensure the wreaths are credited and deliv-

ered to New Bern. You may also to volunteer online to help place the wreaths at the National Remem-

brance Day Ceremony on December 16, 2017.

All information, including links to donate, and order form are available on the Craven County Republi-

can Party website, www.cravengop.org . Please help us in honoring those who have given so much to

protect our freedom. Thank You !

Friend,

As we approach the holiday season, many North Carolinians will be making plans to travel home and prepare delicious meals

with family and friends. However, thousands of service members in our military stationed overseas will be far from all they

know and love. To show our thanks for their service and to share our support during the holiday season, the NCGOP and the

RNC are working together to put on two Christmas Care Package Drives the last week of November!

We are proud to announce our partnership with Move America Forward, a California-based non-profit dedicated to ensuring

our service members receive care packages throughout the year. Since 2004, Move America Forward has sent thousands of

packages to our troops serving overseas.

Between Monday November 27th and Friday December 1st, we are encouraging you to drop off much needed items! These

packages will include items like snacks, toiletries, leisure items, and other gifts.

As Americans and as Republicans, we take pride in supporting our armed forces. This project gives us a chance to show our

gratitude beyond a simple “thank you.” As a party, we have the opportunity to show leadership from the top— to help

bridge the military and civilian divide and to increase our bond and engagement with a community who makes our demo-

cratic system possible.

See below for drive locations and additional information:
