From the Secretary’s Desk From the Secretary’s Desk:
We currently have 92 delinquent members. Please check the secretary’s bulletin board to see the member’s
names. If you proposed anyone on the list that has not paid their dues, please contact them and request that they ful-
fill their commitment.
As of Jan 10th. Our membership has grown with 14 Elks transferring into the Lodge. 5 Elks were reinstated
into our Lodge. We have initiated 65 new Elks for a total of 79. Unfortunately in addition to the 92 delinquent mem-
bers we have dropped 60 members and lost 13 members to death.
We must remember that membership is the “Life Blood” of the Benevolent and Pro-
tective Order of Elks. And it is important to remember “Why we are Members”.
BECAUSE .. We lead no one to our doors with any promised material benefits or fame. We pledge no ad-
vancement of personal or career ambitions; instead we vow to help each other become better and happier persons.
We believe in not merely wishing others well, but in manifesting this belief by deeds, seeking to serve rather than to be
served. To Elks, laughter is better than tears, and a kind word is more powerful than a frown. The dream of a better
world becomes reality when shaped by enough willing hearts and hands.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Jack McClurken, LM, PDDGER, Secretary

Vero Beach Elementary School has 800 students with 80% of those house-holds living below or in poverty. The Vero Beach Elks Community Outreach Project, Elks Love Kids of Character, fills the gap for parents in need of financial help with school supplies, small inexpensive toys, and treats that they may not be able to af-ford otherwise. The students must earn the wampum in the classroom by being good,
staying on task, getting good grades, or showing good character. Last year, in the first 5 months of school there were 430 incidents of behavior problems where a student was sent to the principal. This year there have been only 43 behavior issues. Reading scores are up 16% and Math scores are up 10%, the highest improvements in the district. The $10,000 Impact Grant from Elks National also provides uniforms for 100 of the neediest students boosting moral. This will be the third year that the Vero Beach Elks have been awarded an Impact Grant for this project.
A message from Jerry, stationed in Afghanistan:
We got the packages and the guys loved the
cookies, just had to make sure the dog’s didn’t
accidentally get a cookie, that Nina (pictured
left) can be a sneak!. The dogs just loved the
treats and the Unit as a whole were happy to be
remembered. Nina enjoyed her treat and then
snuck another from me when I wasn’t looking.
Thank You!!!
The lodge wants to thank the ladies who pre-
pare and mail the Cookies for Soldiers & the dog
treats for the military dogs. Great Job!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I want to thank you for your support of the El Schneider Memorial Fundraising Raffle. To date,
the response has been good. Every member has received at least one (1) ticket to sell or purchase, but
there are still a lot of tickets out there. Please remember that we need to have all tickets returned to the
Lodge Secretary by Wednesday, February 15th. So we have enough time to process them in time for the
“Big Drawing” on Saturday, February 18th. At the El Schneider Dinner.
Tickets for the Dinner are available from your Lodge Officers or from the Bartenders. Additional
Raffle Tickets are also available from the Bartenders or by calling or Email me at (772)-925-4525 or
[email protected] Thank you again for your support.
