Commodores Comments Subs Thanks to all those who paid their subs by 31st October. The office team have been busy getting them all processed. It’s the best result we have ever had for subs being paid by the end of October. There are just a few outstanding subs to come in and if you are one of those who have overlooked your subs our secretary Karen would love to receive your money ASAP. Pat O’Leary (32) was the lucky member who had paid his sub by 31st October and had his membership drawn to get his sub refunded. Congratulations Pat.

Working Bee On Saturday 17th November there will be a Working Bee to give the Club rooms a spruce up for summer. Come along and give a hand for a couple of hours. Your time will be much appreciated.

Sailing Report

The weather has been kind to us and given us three great sailing days, on which I have been sitting on the start / finish line and golly have I seen some folly. I know that it is easy to find fault when you have nothing to do and from the arm chair and I have even tried to video some of the goings on. I think it’s something all sailors should watch at some stage to see how they could improve. I know that time on the water is important, however, watching will help also.

One thing I did do was count the number of lasers that we have, and we have around 20, but different ones turn up on different days - it would be great to see them all on one day! We need more kids coming through the classes, and the club has our own Optimist yachts and Open BIC yachts and we really want more kids to help fill all those yachts. If you know any kids wanting to have a go, get them to contact the sailing section and we can take them out for a sail.

The new format we are running this season, with one long race, then a Mark Foy race, followed by two short races is working really well This format gives the sailors a lively interest on what is going on, as opposed to having two long races where the results are kind of known after the first two marks, with the guys in the back of the fleet getting further behind and the leaders waiting on the beach.

If you feel you need to release the inner policeman in you, we need help on the start line. The work is not hard and full training can be given. The company is nice, and you might meet new friends, the fresh air is good, and you are outside doing something.

Coming up are the normal sailing days and the annual river race being on 9th December with a new format this year and the family fun day on 23 December.

When the boss is away, and you are on the computer at work, do you look at anything sailing related? Let me know and I can share it.

Pool Club Report

We are approaching the end of our pool year with the Memorial Trophy singles competition coming up on 15th November and Games night on the 22nd November. This is where you bring along your partner, wife or friend and we play indoor bowls, table tennis and pool, always a great night.

During the last month we have competed for the Hermies Cup, this is a doubles comp and was won by Martin How and Peter Jamieson, and we have also played the Deaf Society both at home and away. Score was one all, both teams winning away from home. These games are always fun and hard fought for competition.

Our final night for the year is the awards night and Christmas Dinner.

Yours in Pool

John Bary

Hi Boaties Our Rescue vessel is due for new outboard motors and GPS so we will be doing some fundraising over the next couple of months. We have had only a couple of call outs over the last month, one at 10pm with 3 young guys fishing in the river and had not told anyone that they were out there as their vehicle and trailer were noticed at the ramp. Please remember to let our radio operators know if you go out on the water via VHF channel 60 or even a note on the car window with a phone number! Summer fishing is coming up so remember to check all your gear, batteries, radios and life jackets. Labour weekend was great weather with 55 boats out on Labour Monday, great to see no incidents though reports of some good fish caught. Our Annual Lottery tickets come out 23rd November. The tickets are $10 with $7 being returned to our unit. The more tickets we sell the more we raise for our unit. By being in to win you will be donating $7 to your local unit here at Foxton Beach! Tickets will be available from Trish Huisman and Foxton Hammer Hardware, Manawatu Marine Boating Club and all our volunteer crew members. Safe boating to you all
