Merry Christmas ! Merry Christmas ! Merry Christmas ! Merry Christmas ! The divine wisdom knew that if the Holy One appeared in full glory and numinous power, human beings would be so overawed that they would not retain their freedom; they would respond not from love but from fear. God wanted to win human love by living as an ordinary person among ordinary people and truly winning their acceptance, and only then revealing the real nature of God. The Divine wanted to attract us, not overpower us. Thus, the Christ, though he was divine, emptied himself, taking on the form of a slave, and was born as a human being.
