MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR! We continue our celebration of Christ’s birth this week-end with the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. As we rejoice at the miracle of Chr ist’s bir th, God becoming one of us through Jesus, we also remem-ber that Jesus spent human life among a family. As we hear in the Gospel today, Jesus was brought to the temple by his parents and revealed by Simeon as a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for the people of Israel. Through Jesus, the human family, the family of the Church, and all of our families have been transformed. As we begin a new year, let us turn to the example of the Holy Family in our lives, give thanks for the gift of our families, and remember that the favor of God is also upon us as we seek to live the path of holiness. I hope your celebrations of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were blessed ones. Don’t forget that we Catholics celebrate Christmas for a season. Even though the decorations may come down and the lights may be put away, we continue to rejoice at the light of Christ coming in to our world. You might consider leaving up some symbol of Christmas, like your Nativity scene, for the full season, which includes the Feast of the Epiphany next weekend and ends with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord on January 8. Let’s keep the light shining for all to see. We are grateful for all those who share of their time and talents to make our Masses for Christmas Eve & Day so beautiful. A special thanks to our Mass Coordinators, Lectors, Communion Ministers, Greeters, Ushers, Servers, Musicians, Cantors, members of our various Choirs, and those who helped decorate the church. We are blessed by the generosity and service of so many. At our Christmas Masses last week, we gave out the Matthew Kelly book, Perfectly Yourself. Please take time to read the book and mark your calendars for our faith formation evenings to discuss the book. You can attend either February 8 or March 15. The book will serve as a resource throughout our Lenten journey. If you were not here for our Christmas Masses, please check with the Parish Office to see if any books are still available. Also, during January we will be offering a formation series on King David, beginning with a movie night this Thursday, January 4. This will be a great way to grow in your faith for the new year. Please see the bulletin for details. This Monday, January 1, we usher in the new year and celebrate the Feast of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. We will have a special Mass at 9:00 a.m. What a great way to start the new year and give thanks to God for the blessings of the past year. May 2018 be filled with many blessings for you and your family!

Responding to God’s call to Stewardship in 2018… Begin the year by prioritizing and making notes on how you hope to grow spiritually in the coming year. Make a commitment to practice the sacraments on a consistent basis. List clear goals that will help bring growth and peace to your spiritual life. List concrete ways you want to grow in relationship with family and friends. List specific goals that will create quality time within these relationships. Think of someone who might be in need of your kindness and time. Make an effort to write them a card each month, pray for them or visit them and be a listening presence. Reflect on how you share your gifts with others or even your failure to do so. Make a note of one concrete way that you will share one of your talents in the coming year. Put this note in a place where you see it regularly as a reminder to follow through. Become more aware of the people around you. Lift them up in prayer rather than seeing them as an obstacle or interruption to your goals. Cultivate a spirit of gratitude and joy. Take time to reflect on your life, your gifts and blessings and give thanks to God for the small blessings that unfold throughout the course of your daily life. Foster a spirit of joy with family, friends and strangers so that you reflect God’s presence to all those you encounter in the coming year.

Josue has graduated from the University!

I think there are no words to express what I feel. After many years of effort, now I can say “I ACHIEVED!” I thank God, my family, CIS, Our Lady of the Presentation Church, friends and all the people that in one way or another have supported me and always been there when I needed them. I can say the journey, that one day I started, now I have seen it finished. One more stage in life, a goal fulfilled, the result to all this is the satisfaction that it feels to have that title in my hands. I ask God to give me wisdom and intelligence to be able to use my knowledge with the people who need it and in the best way. Thank you friends for all your support. Thanks for the words of encouragement that I was given when I was about to faint. Now I can say once again, that I am happy to be happy!

A letter from our scholarship student Josue.

Celebrating and Honoring Our School's Teachers!! The Sisters of Charity Excellence in Education Award

Join us in celebrating the 9th year of honoring a teacher at Our Lady of the Presentation School for excellence in Catholic education. Here is a way for you to let a teacher know that they are making a significant difference in the life of a child.

Why is this program called The Sisters of Charity Award? The Sisters of Charity were instrumental in founding our school in 1939. Members of the Sisters of Charity taught our first students and with the help of Father F. E. Hagedorn, Pastor, helped create the amazing school we have become today. The Sisters of Charity Award for excellence in Catholic Education bridges the accomplishments of our past and the promise of our future by recognizing outstanding performance by one of our talented teachers. This honor is awarded annually.
