James August Stirling December 28, 1955 – January 4, 2011 It is with deep sadness and heart  break that the family of James August Stirling owner and operator of J&J Stirling Log Ltd passed away after a lengthy battle with Cancer on January 4, 2011 at the age of 55 years.  James is survived by his devoted and loving wife Jacquelin; his chil- dren JR (Tina), Bobbie-Lee (Mike), Lisa (Wayne), Roberta, Jason (Cindy), Tyler; his grandchildren Kyle, Dylan, Lanny, JR jr , T yrell, Kay-lee, Caitlin, Taylor, Whitney, Dylan, Nora, Nya,  Jacky , Michelle, Danielle; his siblings, Monica, Edward (Darlene), Billy, Barb (Bill), Janet (Warren) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins as well as friends that became family along the way.  James is predeceased by his par- ents Barnabas Stirling and Dorothy Smith. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00pm., Saturday January 8, 2011 at Lower Nicola Indian Band School Gymnasium. Training will be held every Tuesday evening 6:30-8:30p.m. at NVIT. The next NVSAR monthly meeting will be Monday January 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the basement of the airport. Community Nicola Naturalist Society talk Alan Burger will give an illustrated presentation: The Wonders of Life in the Changing High Arctic on Jan. 13, 7pm in NVIT’s new lecture theatre. The presenta- tion is based on several trips he’s done as a ship's biologist/naturalist to Svalbard (Spitsbergen) and Greenland over the past 5 years and will feature polar bears, walrus, whales, seals, arctic fox, arctic flowers and much more. The talk will also look at the changes occurring in the high Arctic due to climate change. NNSC’s Chili Sunday Nicola Nordic Ski Club’s annual social for all cross-country skiers will be held  January 30th from 11am-1pm at Parking Lot 3, at 4K on the Kane Valley Road. Bring spoon, mug, bowl and enough chili for each person in your party to add to the communal pot. The club will supply  buns, cocoa and cookies. Everyone is wel- come, especially novices who will receive help from experienced skiers. Shelter from the Storm Merritt’s extreme weather shelter is now open when temperatures drop below -8°C, as well as every Monday night until March 28th. Doors open 8pm at Crossroads Community Church, 2990 Voght St., across from the RCMP detachment. V olunteers are needed to help run this progam.
